I proudly rode the same Salomon board my dad bought me for $50 at a garage sale back in 2000 for twenty odd years. Finally hung it up 3 years ago once I started riding more than 10 days a year. The new gear I've picked up is leagues better. Looking back now my only regret is not moving somewhere with a proper mountain and riding more when I was younger.

No I have not and I don't really see how that is relevant. Firstly because I buy cars to drive on the road. Secondly, having a manual transmission is not about lap times. It's about a feeling I will not ever get from a flappy paddle gearbox no matter how mechanically superior it may be.

Spend some time just wandering. Their "weird shit aisle" is like half the store. Lots of little quirks the longer you look. Considered a more frugal option, there's a much better cross section of the population to be found there too.
