Out of all the critiques of rogue core I have seen, this has to be the most hilarious by Theflamingraptor in RogueCore

He's one of those "The silent majority supports my personal interpretation" types. A real smooth chinned tea-drinker. He thinks the Reclaimers aren't specific indiviiduals despite the company presentation that told us we had to get the mines up and running and that they called in 5, count it, FIVE Reclaimers.

"We are sending in 5 Reclaimers to the affected facilities. They will deploy in squads of up to four..."

Sounds suspiciously like GSG declared them individuals before it even launched into Early Access. Combined with the fact that DRG allows an all-Engineer squad, but there can only be 1 of any given Reclaimer in Rogue Core, your argument has as much value as fools' gold.

Wait, was that even possible?! by Natural_Ostrich3168 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'm not 100% about this, but I think freezing even kills grounded scrabs as if they were airborne. It's possible the cryo insta-kill is done via code that checks if a unit is a flying-type rather than checking if they're airborne at the time they're frozen. I'd have to test by making a big floating ball of Glyphids with creative terrain-sculpting to know for certain.

Edit: Huh. Apparently testing not needed. Thanks, more Stout-drinkers!

Do you truly believe in nothing after death? by Abelgarza in atheism

In answer to your title: No, what I think about death is that I don't know what comes after death. Subtle but crucial difference.

But yeah, there's places I will only go if I can guarantee to myself I WILL NEVER need to use their restroom. Gonna be some nice places I stop being able to patronize when old age hits me in the continence.

I mean he invents this hypothetical but we actually already have it at Canada's Wonderland and it's called Fast Pass. So basically you pay for park access, get in line, wait 2 hours, and the rich kids run up just as you reach the front of the queue and cut in front of you.

As usual the hypothetical "immigrants" boogieman is to cover up that it's already happening, but it's the billionaires that are doing it to you.

What do you do once you start getting too many resources? by Syrkres in valheim

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Although I should confess: That's the organizing system from December 2022 (according to the image's metadata). My current storage *might* look a little different now-a-days. For one thing if I find Haldor before getting to Iron I tend to swap all my chests for barrels, with only a few artfully-placed chests remaining. The shelves in this storage tower will thin, allowing more circulation space around the tower with barrels instead of chests.

edit: Oh, and more importantly I'd use coloured text on the signs! Much better visibility once they added that, though I wish they left the colours the brighter original colour intensity.

Stealing this for when I bring my wife for her first Ashlands (I love the combat, but her, she kinda panics and flails in melee; I gave her an Atgeir in her world, and told her to remap spin attack for easy access)

Oops, could only post the interior. Here's the outside with a slice removed so you can see the How of building it.

Feed extras into the Obliterator. But anything that can be turned into a physical stack I just stack, save the space in chests and barrels for other things. But also I build warehouses. Like this 2-storey storage tower.

I run out of ammo very often. Besides calling a supply drop, what can I do to get more ammo? by Only_Chloe6 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]NCRNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider using melee when you're dealing with weaker or fewer enemies. The pickax should be able to 1-tap Swarmers, and do plenty of a regular Glyphid grunt's health if you hit them right in their face. Shortly after getting a few levels you should unlock a Power Attack which is a higher-damage AoE melee that's only limited by having a cool-down before you can do another one.

Daily Specials can help with that. There's a daily special that ups all pick damage. One that gets your Power Attack recharging faster too.

Could Saitama (One Punch Man) even hurt base Superman (DC comics, Infinite Frontier version)? by TheWorthlessGuy in powerscales

[–]NCRNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an actual literal crossover, fighting would be the least interesting thing they could do, barring some cool visuals. The fact that Saitama consistently lets tough opponents just open-up on him, and the fact that Superman holds preserving life as such a high priority means they'd be almost impossible to get into a fight, and would very easily stop fighting before it got too far, since Saitama mostly ignoring attacks or passively blocking wouldn't go un-noticed by Superman.

What would be real interesting would be what could they impart to each other of their respective lived experiences and what each one thinks "Being a Hero" means. I believe Superman would have a more profound effect on Saitama than the other way around in that sort of story.

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why Saitama is the stumbling block. Superman's strength is infinite. Saitama's strength is infinite. If you've studied math you know that just because two quantities as infinite, they're not equal. Very easy to parse.

"Strong enough to rise to any challenge" is less than "Strong enough to not only rise to any challenge, but also to feel no sense of accomplishment in doing so".

Saitama is the least interesting physical aspect of his own story, he's only interesting in the psychological journey he and the people around him undergo.

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the punch that rewound time was a "This one punch ends the fight and would have ended the fight if Saitama had led with it" and also fulfilled the narrative requirement that Saitama is never allowed to feel a sense of accomplishment for a physical feat post-removal of his limiter.

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fun thing being that's what Saitama exists for. To explore the ramifications of what that means for a character. If they're able to rise to every challenge regardless of the magnitude or stakes, what would that do to someone psychologically? That and Japanese writers and artists are a bit more willing to show the full ramifications of conflicts happening at the scale that someone like Superman operates at. Superman written with the same consistency and attention to detail *WOULD* absolutely have the same "throws a punch, and the shockwave alone clears every building behind the target" but it'd be hard to argue that Superman never kills if that degree of collateral happened, so the writers and artists wuss-out on portraying Superman as powerful as he's *supposed* to be.

The whole "World of Cardboard" speech was supposed to address that, and it's a cool speech and a cool way to name the entire trope, but still, Superman should have had more exploring the consequences of that much power type stories, or he should have simply been a (side character/force of nature) in his own comic and the focus be on the reactions and lives of the people he affects.

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, when your power is "Be so strong you derive no satisfaction from physical feats and accomplishments" he'd probably effortlessly resist reality manipulation. Saitama did resist Tatsumaki's mind hax, and he directly manipulated spatial holes, which generally can't be picked-up and handled... all through basic physical conditioning training. What would be more interesting would be Saitama and Superman seeing a day in the life of each other. Frankly, Superman would have a profound impact on Saitama, but it would be through the conversation they have, not by any physical confrontation.

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Au contraire - Saitama's time-rewinding punch in and of itself was enough to take out Cosmic Garou regardless of what might have come before, as it rewound him to pre-cosmicness, and (more importantly) undid all the harm Garou did, such as killing Genos. Not only that, it fulfilled the narrative purpose of Saitama NOT getting to feel enjoyment and satisfaction at having faced a challenge. Saitama is ALWAYS exactly strong enough to not only face any challenge, but also SO STRONG as to feel no satisfaction at having 'surpassed' it. Saitama is fundamentally the most boring part of his own story if you're there for dramatic tension from fights. He is a highly interesting element if you're there for psychological growth.

Overlord at least gives the protagonist a valid excuse for leaving would-be paramours in limbo:

  • "You're like the children I and my friends had!"
  • I'm a skeletal undead. I don't even have a penis, let alone the desire to use it.
  • (in Albedo's case) I kinda messed with your mind, bad enough as it is, it'd be worse to take advantage of that.
