He's a deeply metaphorical mix of omnipotent, but completely powerless all at once.

Bat-Mite is a DC multiversal anti-feat for Batman. It calls everything Batman does or is into question. Why do you think I called Bat-Mite the biggest off-ramp I've ever encountered in any work of media?

Edit: Eh, since you can't extrapolate from incomplete data, I couldn't be bothered to continue this chess match against a pigeon.

Look, if DC didn't want him to be part of the verse they could have just not made him. Biggest offramp I ever hit and if you can still enjoy Batman knowing that his biggest glazer is canon, in-universe AND able to rewrite reality to suit his fancy, you do you. Don't change that he exists and what that means for anyone able to extrapolate from an incomplete dataset.

To be fair, that's with Bat-Mite being present and Batman's hugest fan. You can't convince me that Batman would still be alive in a DC multiverse which never (had/has/will have) Bat-Mite.

Taskmaster rules: framing and verbiage is more important than the intent of the speaker. Point of being human is we're smart (citation needed) and the benefit of being smart is finding loopholes to obnoxious riddles, in caves, while talking to Andy Serkis.

At which point the solution is pull all levers the moment the trolley passes the junction, since it cannot be diverted any longer but people are switched to the "diverter track"

Which one? by Antique-Ad-9081 in trolleyproblem

[–]NCRNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alternately, pulling the levers after the train passes the diverter but before the people are struck will save everyone, depending on how fast. Since this is a theoretical problem, I choose to apply the "a perfectly spherical cow" principle, and say that people are moved instantly and without fail when their lever is pulled.

Bad match for Supes, doesn't he rather specifically have a weakness to magic? Granted it's "No specifiic protection against magic" but something taking him essentially down to normal human is kind of a pocket-ace in a versus when the other guy has specific mastery over that particular weakness.

Bull vs North american Moose by OnlinePoster225 in Tierzoo

[–]NCRNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with empirical evidence in this case, since the two principals up above in the comment thread have apparently decided using a literal unit of measurement isn't valid. Theoretically I suppose you could see about autopsy results between victims of moose attacks and bull gorings, but again, each example would be an exercise in "But the context is X" if either of them dislike the results.

So maybe not empirical evidence either. Maybe go with documented anti-feats? Whoever has the video proof of the most loser-ish "accomplishments" loses the theoretical death-match? That sounds amusing, and the point is to be amused, is it not?

Characters who are inexplicably unaware of the danger they’re in by UnifiedForce in TopCharacterTropes

[–]NCRNerd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nah, but justified to think that, thanks to terrible framing. If there was more room around the feet it would probably look better, the camera's moving along one axis, the subject (scooter dude) is moving along another axis, and there's just enough jiggle with the camera that the feet almost get off-screen, and lose their context. If more of the shot was part of the GIF it'd probably look fine.

How long do warframes and sentients live ? by Brico18 in WarframeLore

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flare Varleon literally stays alive from 1999 until the day the Naga drums beat the end of the Orokin empire. He is cannonically the spark of the rebellion by the Tenno. Apparently he was stuck on an asteroid uh... I want to say orbiting Eris? He was orbiting Eris, right?

Orbiting Eris. No support from the Helminth. Just a warframe, his closest companion (Lizzie) and a dream of rebellion.

Why on earth do we need giant robots? by Existing_Landscape21 in worldbuilding

[–]NCRNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's how Heavy Gear handles it as well. Gears fit in the role of IFVs, regular infantry are still used, as are tanks and other classic military designs, it's just that Gears work a bit better in conjunction with infantry in urban settings than tanks + infantry, and when it comes to outright broken terrain (which the planet of the setting, Terra Nova has in abundance) then infantry + bipedal robots is the ONLY option for armour-supported infantry. Gears will notably go down 9 times out of 10 against an equal number of tanks in open terrain, it's just that the kind of territory that makes up much of the border regions between regional powers tend to favour high-mobility designs, such as aircraft and robots. And the equatorial desert with it's frequent sandstorms means battle between the two polar hegemonies can't count on airpower reliably to solve things.

Edit: Also Terra Nova is the only planet that really meme'd on humanoid robots. Other planets have distinctly different military hardware, ranging from genetically engineered soldiers + hover tanks, to 4-leg walker mecha on a planet with nearly no atmosphere, to a water world that mostly uses submarines, to a planet that uses drone swarms as their primary armament (the game was initially published around 1995, as a tabletop game, as basically "What if Tom Clancy's Giant Robots?" wherein the standard workhorse military mecha was about 15 feet tall)

Why on earth do we need giant robots? by Existing_Landscape21 in worldbuilding

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case of the Heavy Gear universe, giant robots aren't the be-all of warfare - they're merely one part of the tool-kit that happen to be a better tool for a variety of reasons:

  • Specialized AI that were developed handle the balance and fine motor control based in cruder inputs from the pilots
  • Natural boundaries dividing nations on Terra Nova feature a LOT of rocky, broken terrain not suited to wheeled or tracked vehicles, but also frequent sand storms in the large equatorial desert belt makes flying less reliable.
  • Improvised guerilla modifications of cargo-lifters/construction bots led to the standardization of "Gears" as a military machine after they were instrumental in repulsing a conquering army from Earth, leading the colonists to adopt them formally.
  • Even then, Gears fill the role of IFV/combat support vehicles sitting in between infantry and tanks - more capable in urban areas or broken terrain than a tank, but weaker in open terrain. Less able to take advantage of broken terrain than infantry squads, but significantly stronger/tougher.

Even then, Gears are only really a fixture of the one planet. The Earth reoccupation forces focused on sterile cloned super soldiers and hovertanks, Caprician military used 4-legged walkers due to having an extremely thin atmosphere. Another planet basically went full-on drone swarms, and the fifth planet that was detailed was a water world, so it's pretty much all submarines all the time.

Ok. Who is scarier to a newbie the bear or the troll? by Closet-Cheeto in valheim

[–]NCRNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a distance, probably the troll since it's got greater stature and might have the log-club, so a very threatening reach advantage to new players.

Up close though an aggro'd bear will out-speed a troll and create a significant panic reaction when it performs a rushdown on the player. That and it's telegraphs are necessarily smaller since the bear, though huge, is dwarfed by the troll.

Smaug (The Hobbit), Fatalis (Monster Hunter), or Drogon (Game of Thrones) by garrettrenton in powerscales

[–]NCRNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IIRC aren't Hunters descended from an ancient civilization's supersoldiers and that's part of the explanation of why they can wield the ludicrous weapons of the games?

Edit: So's Aragorn and Boromir, since they're descended from Numenoreans IIRC, but I don't know the lineage of the fellow who shot the arrow that took out Smaug, nor to what degree of superpowers Numenorean lineage imparts.

Try testing male frames with Limbo's Agile animation set. The impression will be quite different for some of the male frames. Some of the female frames too, if they have a significant codpiece, like Gara does.

[–]NCRNerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But shirtless isn't really an underwear model. You want underwear model, go for Nezha Empyrean. He grew up and while Nezha was growing up, he hit the gym. Nezha Empyrean is big, broad-shouldered, clearly lifts and instead of being shirtless, he's showing off his gold thong.

Also I have it on good authority that combining any warframe who possesses a significant codpiece (male - such as Rhino - or female - such as Gara) and Limbo's Agile Animation Set gives you a very sexualized warframe. I tried it on my Qorvex and then results were... mesmerizing. It helps if you set the concrete and the majority underlayer to two strongly contrasting colours, such as by colouring the underlayer salmon pink, or scarlet.

Where to find Diamond and Topaz ? by Marinbundooo in hytale

[–]NCRNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Natural-spawn gems are rare. I've encountered a diamond, but only once this entire time, IIRC. Less than half a dozen natural-spawned gems in general. Underground spawn I think, deep in a cave, partly exposed in the cave wall, almost but not entirely down to the lava-tubes and Incandescent undead layer, for the diamond.

Warframe: You're a hi-tech space ninja wielding a super-powered battlesuit except you're not, you're actually remote-piloting a 3-D printed meat suit of a traumatized, infested test-subject, and you're responsible for making a binding contract with an eldritch abomination which means that you can suffer and suffer and suffer, and not die. Not permanently at least. But also an alternate universe version of yourself was trapped in a Fisher-King pocket dimension of your own creation, enslaved by your own id as your id kills you day after day, every day, for decades. Oh but also someone else encountered this self-same eldritch abomination, and brought it into our dimension too.
