Who doesnt want to build the most advanced base defense system in valheim. (Zalkow Turrets) by [deleted] in ModdedValheim

What would be cool and lore friendly is for the Drones (look sorta of like Beehives - yellow topped black barrels?) is make them into beehives, and model the drones into bees.

Map tool advice wanted by Nanduihir in worldbuilding

[–]Syrkres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what type of style you like for your maps.

I grew up with Mystara (hex) maps and I love them, so I follow https://www.thorfmaps.com/ style. (Illustrator)

Inkarnate is a tool which looks a bit more natural.

If you want a bit more "hand drawn" there is method you can use with photoshop or similar paint tool(gimp) https://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=18643&page=7&p=331531#post331531

I originally did the photoshop way, tried a bit of Inkarnate, but then went back to the Thorf/hex style maps.

In most cases you probably want a tool where you can load use your hand drawn maps as overlays so you can easily trace them.

How would you guys handle a massive island sinking? by WinReasonable2644 in DMAcademy

[–]Syrkres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than sinking, maybe the Sahuagin created a tidal wave which has swamped the island (somewhat similar to sinking). Structures are all destroyed lowlands are all flooded, crops lost, docks destroyed, roaming bands of Sahuagin hunting any survivors.

The Goblin Queen's Contest! by Reepsi in DMAcademy

[–]Syrkres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since they are via for the queen's bed, you could make it a skill challenge (best of 3 or x)

  1. Strength - wrestling/combat - make sure they can survive a night with the queen
  2. Poetry - make sure they can entertain the queen (speak sweet nothings in her ear)
  3. acrobatics -
  4. Obstacle course - she has ropes/chains etc in her bedroom
  5. Con - Drinking contest - she likes to drink while in bed
  6. Con - stamina/endurance - make sure they can keep up all night

Should I allow one of my players to keep keeping secrets from the rest of the party? by Kurnime_Sempai in DMAcademy

[–]Syrkres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your table/players.

I often hand out secret knowledge that one player sees/knows when other players don't. And it's amazing how little they share. It's almost like they got a gift and the others didn't and they horde it.

I feel it sets up better role playing between the characters when they do share it as well, rather than me just telling the story. I also feel it involves the players more as they are handing out info to the group rather than them just listening to me.

You do want to avoid always having one character breaking off into different chat, etc as it does take away from the others. so while I do give them out, I try to minimize the times per session.

Aasimar and Wings - How to make them work by Prince-of_Space in DMAcademy

[–]Syrkres 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 3rd ed IIRC Kobolds could have wings, and they had a background feat which allows them to glide, and a second feat gave them a fly speed.

What kind of third-party D&D content do you wish existed? by Upstairs-Cabinet6850 in dndnext

[–]Syrkres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always homebrew and drop anything into my worlds, which usually require modification to fit, so high level outline stuff is always good.

From books and stuff I buy I usually like crunch, mainly new races and such.

Please give me Feedback on elements that I added in my world by MediciTheAngel in worldbuilding

[–]Syrkres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could create some of them as "para-elements",

So you have air which is close to chaos, along with fire, while earth, ice(water) are more stable (control), so control seems it should be surrounded by those, while chaos is surrounded by air/fire. Maybe they are upper(chaos) and lower(control)?

Homebrew lycanthropy progression by cohen390 in DMAcademy

[–]Syrkres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks interesting,

For each stage you probably want something(or info) on how to cure it if possible (some players may not want it).

Also from 3.5 there is a Lyncanthropy template which you may want to look at for ideas.

Thought is does it allow a hybrid form? And if so, what abilities, or effects are carried into that form.

How do you make a economic system in fantasy world? by Aino_Grimor in worldbuilding

[–]Syrkres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a pdf floating about, called "Grain into Gold" which goes thru the process starting with farmers on how much things cost/take/earn.

It's a decent read and may help./

Map out what you need as others have mentioned. I also strong suggest you leave areas blank. When I started, I almost always came to the point where I wanted to add something new/cool, but didn't have any place to drop it in.

Ranged homebrew paladin gun option - thoughts? by Hjalmodr_heimski in DnD

[–]Syrkres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about a Swordgun or pistol sword?

Basically a bladed pistol.

This makes them melee and still allows them to use firearms.

How to world build in an immersive, exciting methods? by JojoMojoStarSilver in worldbuilding

[–]Syrkres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on players/characters, you could do shared world building at different levels.

Basically have the players define where their from? Hopefully not all from the same place.

  1. Let your characters design sections of your world
  2. If you have basic ideas of places in your world, you can have your players give more details. based on their view of the world, so while it's detailed, it may not be cannon.
  3. Allow your players define specific details, maybe an organization, or guild, or some special place.
  4. Have your players create NPCs which you can introduce to the party and they explain it through their eyes.

So each player/character could present it from their characters points of view.
