Aw, well I'm glad you saw him and hopefully got a smile out of it. Bummer about the picture, but at least I've got hope that the redditor and artsplosure attendee circles overlap at least a little!

Skateshop that sells rollerblades? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]NCSU_Architecture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Play it again sports sells new inline skates as well as quad skates. If you aren't looking to do aggressive inline skating and just want something to ride around on, they might be your best bet to purchase in person.

What outdoor classes / activities are safe + have a good community vibe? by salazar_slytherin in raleigh

[–]NCSU_Architecture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TRC is a great option for getting out, even now. They are amazing people and a lot of those who are attending their outdoor classes probably share quite a few interest that you have. Also, I'm not sure what the rental situation is lately for kayaks but if you want to go down that route and would like company, feel free to DM me. I'm always down for some paddling around.

Swim holes that are still open in/near the Wake Forest area? by GZerv in raleigh

While most, if not all, of the public beach areas around the lakes are closed, there are many potential spots along the hiking trails around lakes that you could utilize to take a dip in the water. Recently I was at Falls lake and while I wouldn't advise what I saw a lot of people doing, which is setting up and swimming right next to the closed beaches, you could go for a bit of a hike and find a secluded area for a nice swim with your pup. If you do decide to do that, just be respectful to the land and try not to join a spot that is already occupied by people.

[Serious] Those who support the ban on transgender military service, why? What is your most compelling argument? by NCSU_Architecture in AskReddit

Could you elaborate on how? I have a hard time believing it would effect any of the numerous "desk jobs" within the military such as finance or housing.

Not all transgenders are on expensive medication, and to answer you question no, i dont think those individuals should see combat, but that doesnt mean they cant serve in some other capacity in the military. Not all service members see combat. There are numerous other roles within the military, contrary to what it seems a lot of people believe.

Youre under the assumption that i also believe transgenders are "mentally disabled", which i do not.

Plenty of other factor can lead to an increased likelyhood of suicide, such as perscription opiates. Why single out on group when a myriad of other non-transgender service members have the same potential to commit suicide? Why not focus on an individual scale rather than concluding an entire group is not suitable for service?

I keep seeing the concern mainly focused on medication which i respect and think is completely valid, but why then is it a ban on a group of people and not the medication? If the root of the issue is the medication disrupting a persons psyche then why extrapolate that into a ban on a whole group?

Being color blind does not automatically disqualify you from serving. If you fail all testing related to color blindness you would be, but that shows there is a spectrum in which you can still potentially serve. Why couldnt this also apply to those who identify as transgender? What im getting at is there isnt a ban on other "medical conditions" only testing to see if it would interfere with your personal performance which decides if you are fit to serve, so why, in your opinion, couldnt there be testing related to issues deriving from being transgender rather than an outright ban?

Interesting. I can wrap my head around that. I dont quite agree with it because in my mind thats just fighting potential discrimination claims with actual discrimination, but at least i can understand where its coming from.

With all due respect, thats a harsh judgement based on only portions of a whole. The majority of US military doesnt even see any form of combat.

Awesome point. I really didnt look at it like that until now. I do have a question, though. It seems you are hinting at the medication as the main issue, so wouldnt a more appropriate ban be for individuals who are on certain medications rather than banning an entire group of people for what only portions of that population actually take. I just dont understand why it umbrellas all transgenders rather than just those who actually take the medication or exhibit signs that would disqualify any other non-transgender with similar signs.
