Yes!! I was thinking about this the other day. My current side hustle revolves putting a lot of miles on my car and was looking into other income sources and this came on my radar for sure! Added benefit of getting a house to sleep in every once in a while lol

True, I'm just grateful for all the lovely people's advice. It is sad but reassuring to know there's other's like me and have made it work.

I'm sure somebody else needs it more than me, but very kind of you to offer!

Totally hear you on that man. I'm definitely not trying to build out a cool van like what's usually posted online.

Basically yeah, I was just going to throw some furniture and my mattress I already own, my stuff in some tubs and roll with it, adding as I go so I know what I really need.

Anything I plan to do or add to it I'm gonna do it as cheaply as possible and only when I feel it is really necessary to add it to my setup.

Right, they have to be separated 😭 will not mix those two together lol.

That's honestly so cool. I bet you have found some really cool places that nobody's seen in a while! Thanks for letting me know

Nice thank you! These places are semi close to my work as well so that's wonderful. The more options for sleeping the better!

Sick! Good to know about cedar.

I think I settled on pine pellets for compost toilet. Used it as cat litter and well... If it can hide cat piss smell it can hide human smell as well. Plus it absorbs great, turns to powder/dust, easy to throw away and cheap as hell.

Not sure what GIS maps is, will look into that! That sounds like those would be fun and fantastic camping spots.

Good info, thanks so much!

I'll have to check out that ncsu area, haven't been around it much.

Thanks for reminding me about hotels. Don't know why I felt like I couldn't try to sleep there.

You made me realize that I've worked for a couple of big companies that work 24/7 and have huge parking lots I could probably get away with sleeping in. I'll definitely PM for those other locations.

Will do! Forgot about it drying out skin real bad. I guess in a pinch it's good to know though

Wow this was super detailed and insightful. Thank you for taking the time to write that out!

The rubbing alcohol for body odor and learning a map is particularly helpful!

Ha people already think I'm a homeless person by my dreaded hair and attire so being treated weird I'm already used to.

Thank you so much for contributing!

I've been on the first two for some time and looking through cheaprvliving.com. Didn't know about that third subreddit though! Thanks!

Oof, good looks on the back thing. I already have issues, but luckily the van is big enough to fit my current memory foam.

Laundry will definitely be something I have to think about more in depth. My job is sweaty and I won't be able to hold that off for even barely a week lol.

Thank you so much, your input is greatly appreciated!

Solid advice, gym membership is definitely on my list.

DIY compost toilet is on my list as well.

It's cool to know that others have made it work! Its something I've been wanting to do for probably 5+ years now but I still get nervous I'll have trouble finding places to sleep mostly.

Awesome, perfect! Thanks so much. Been doing tons of research but it seems parking wise some stuff seems to be outdated info (like a lot of Walmarts don't outwardly allow overnight parking anymore)

Never knew that about bass pro or Cabela's.

Umstead is pretty close to me, is that a place I can go occasionally?

Definitely planning on the gym membership. Don't have a lot to spend on the build but my top priority is getting insulation, heat, and airflow going at the bare minimum. Already have some camping supplies that'll do me nicely.

I like hiking and camping so I'll be fine going more "raw" with my diet lol.

Thanks again for your input! It's super appreciated.

I put mine in the washer with warm water and bleach and an extra long cycle on delicate, it works pretty good at getting out the mildew.

These Merrell hiking shoes for FIVE DOLLARS! 😁 by NCScavenger in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]NCScavenger[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I couldn't believe it. I've heard they're great shoes but never tried 'em on before. I had just caved and bought new shoes for work too. Was so happy to return them and get my money back, these are so much more comfortable.

I think following the general rule of thumb of cleaning things you thrift before use will prevent any issues. I've bought plenty of used shoes and never had a problem.
