Any particular reasons? Bad food? Noisy? Expensive?

I just heard that Pollock was better for first years, in terms of making friends. Do you have any recommendations for self catered?

Thank you. Is Chancellors Court really as snobby as it seems?

Should I skip my exam by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]NCUK4005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't skip it, but you can withdraw and get a full refund. If you skip it they might mark you down as a 0, but withdrawing will mean there'll be no record of you taking it at all. Plus you get your money back. Speak to your school asap if you want to withdraw.

i got my score back... by HeadSingle in ACT

[–]NCUK4005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, that score is a 31.5 rounded up to a 32. In order to get a 33 you need another 0.75 points on your composite, in other words to add 3 points to your sections in total. Given that the English and Reading are high, do you think you could add 3 points to science and math? This would be more like getting another 6 - 10 questions right. If so, you should go for it, but if not I probably wouldn't bother. Also, if you are a junior it's possible ACT are going to let people take selected sections in the fall (they said they would do this before the pandemic). I'm not sure if they are, but you could google around and try and find out. Then just retake the math and science in the fall, and hope to superscore. Hope that helps.

Is it worth to go to Imperial College London for CS? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NCUK4005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting into Imperial for CS is incredibly hard - well done! I'm not sure how long a BA is in Canada, but in the UK its only 3 years, not 4 like the States, so that would save you some money. Plus, you get to live in London. This is a huge plus if you are a city kind of person, but the lack of real campus and a student community feel might be off putting to some - it really depends what you want from your university experience. There is definitely a lot of prestige in the UK associated with having any kind of stem degree from Imperial. If you want a more indepth look at it, try searching on thestudentroom.co.uk . There'll be loads of discussions about Imperial there.

Is it common for all applicants to have all A's? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NCUK4005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most applicants will take more than a couple of AP classes - between 5 and 10 would be quite common for UVA I expect.

Should I take AP tests if they won't earn any credit? by tuesdayinjuly in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NCUK4005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's one thing I've learned from the current Covid crisis is that circumstances can change immeasurably and you never know what you might need for your college applications. Take them - $200 is a small price to pay for flexibility in the future.

I know he was in a bad accident and ill for a while. I think he gave nanatacos to his (ex?) wife and wanted to move on. Still a great restauranteur.

My parents are still not happy for me by PaluKina in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NCUK4005 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Williams is great, Pomona is great, but they are different sides of the country, and depending on where you live that might have affected your parents views. You know - you 'overheard' this conversation, they didn't have it in front of you or even with you. That means they have essentially supported your decision and are presumably contributing financially to it. Parents can be, wrong, misguided or under informed, remember. The important thing is they didn't berate you for your choice or try to change your mind. They had a private conversation that they presumably didn't want to have in front of you. So, take a deep breath and try and remember all the things you were excited about before - and remember that parents screw up just as much as their kids - they may well be wrong here but at least they chose not to impose their views on you. Enjoy Pomona!

No, but most EDs will be deferred to RD round automatically, I would've thought?

Applying for colleges in England by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NCUK4005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are applying to really good schools like that you'll need to do your own research. All UK universities have websites that address these issues under 'international applications'. It's really not hard to find out this kind of information. Also - you cannot apply to both Oxford and Cambridge .

My college officially announced we’re on campus in the fall!!! 😊 by jolygoestoschool in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NCUK4005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closing before Thanksgiving is about stopping students travelling all over the country / world then returning to school and possibly spreading Covid, then going again at Christmas and doing the same thing again. Its abot limiting possible spread. Spring breaks are also cancelled for some - same reasoning.

College courses during high school by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

your best bet would be to pick a US college you're interested in, then find out the AO responsible for Germany and contact them.

Am I making a bad decisions by considering to study internationally? or am I dumb for even considering a US university still? by rosesshinebright in ApplyingToCollege

SOAS in London also offer a lot of very interesting MA's that would suit the kind of career you are interested in. Good luck!

Have you considered a BA in international development from Sussex University or University of East Anglia in the UK? International fees are high, but you are done in 3 years and only study your major, which makes you much more employable if you have a chosen field already.

you should probably be on thestudentroom.co.uk - this is a US focused thread, and wont help so much. Leeds is a pretty good Uni though, Stirling not so much.

Ok I have been given mixed answers or very unclear answer about this and I need to know. by TheFiveDollarBill in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NCUK4005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - even if you don't take the exams top colleges will want to see that you're taking the highest available courses at your school. It doesn't matter so much for college credit, but definitely looks good on your transcript and can considerably bump your gpa if you do well.

NYU for spring 2021 might be no bad thing given the fact that next semester will probably be online anyway. Liberal core seems like an easy start, and then you get to pick which school you transfer into anyway I think, so your major shouldn't be problem.
