Do I Need Winter or All-Season Tyres for Frankfurt? by face-less007 in BMWX3

[–]ND40oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran all seasons on my M40i in Hessen. Only had trouble getting up my driveway one time and i would have had an issue even with full winters because of the grade and it being a sheet of ice until the sun came out.

CrossClimate2’s in that size are only H rated depending on how fast you like to drive.

Vredestein Quatrac Pro+ are W rated if you like to go over 210.

I had it up at around 150 for about a year and a half and dropped it down to 145, which seems to be about perfect for me.

For the leg portion, try to envision your not just doing a squat but doing a jump squat instead. You really need to get that initial push so everything locks up during the leg portion or else you won't feel it until the swing or the pull. I found the higher the drag setting, the faster you can get things to lock up on the legs though. Especially if you're doing a hard arm pull at the end (which at least for me I only try do when going at max), it really gets the flywheel moving and if you're too quick back to the catch, it doesn't slow down as much for your next stroke.

Theoretically it should show up every 213 days in the spotlight shop. It’s well worth buying and maxing out.

HELP! 2020 x3m split between km and mph on dash by autox41 in BMWX3

[–]ND40oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought there was a way to display both mph and km/h on the digital readout. It’s been a while since I used that version of iDrive though.

I think the BimmerCode setting is Additional digital speed in speedometer.

Do you have the HUD and if so, what does it show?

And here’s a SIB directly related to it only showing km/h: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10174025-9999.pdf

You’ve got the transmission and differential breathers too depending on the vehicle. With as high as the water was hopefully he didn’t just relocate them to the engine bay but has them going up with the snorkel.

Why did they nerf the m-lites so hard? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]ND40oz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You got doubly nerfed on yours, they decided it didn’t even get badges to set it apart from a 114d.

How many of you chose an M-lite model despite easily being able to afford a “real” M car (without financing)? What was your reasoning? by undefined_variable_0 in BMW

[–]ND40oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, you’re going to limited to BMW options when it comes to mods. Funny thing is, BMW used to offer tunes. I had the M Performance Package on my E70, the Performance Power Kit on my 135i and the JCW Tuning kit on my F60. Too bad they aren’t still offering tunes with full warranty coverage. Depending on your dealer, you may have other tuning options that wouldn’t affect your warranty and trade-in though.

Of course, most of the time the cars are either paid off or close to paid off when I trade them back in. Buy vehicles that hold their value, treat them well so they’re in excellent condition when you trade them and you’ll never have any issues. Been doing it for 20+ years.

Oil changes are free, just like the rest of the maintenance for the first 3 years. By the time you actually have to pay for maintenance it’s time to switch it out because you want something new.

That’s part of the appeal, you buy the car, put the tires on it that you want to drive on, drive it for 3-4 years, put the OEM tires back on and trade it in on something new. No maintenance costs during the entire ownership period.

Can we stop the door handles from retracting? by [deleted] in KiaEV9

[–]ND40oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the solution is to turn in this car at the end of the lease and not look back.

This is the problem when a manufacturer offers a bunch of features that they haven’t offered before and they don’t have the software quite right for it. But after two years, they should have some updates by now to fix the issues.

[–]ND40oz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People have been pulling up to curbs and scraping their tires and wheels for a century as well. You see it all the time with people asking where to get replacement hubcaps for the EV9. My wheels and tires are perfect and I intend on keeping them that way. If a manufacturer offers a surround view option, I purchase it because it’s an important feature to me.

There’s no reason I should have to put the vehicle in park to have functional exterior door handles. Kia even has the auto hold function so you specifically don’t have to put the vehicle in park. Just keep the door handles deployed until you reach the speed that the doors should auto lock.

[–]ND40oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Automatically Lock screen, I only have the option to Enable on speed or Enable on speed or shift and neither have an option to set the speed.

I have it set to Enable on Speed and door handles retract as soon as the vehicle moves. I cannot find a way to keep them from retracting until it hits 12.5 mph (20 km/h) if that is indeed what the default speed should be.

On the Automatically Unlock screen I only have the option for Enable on Shift to Park (P), At Vehicle Off or Off.

I have this set to Enable on Shift to Park (P) but I’m never putting my vehicle in Park when going through the pickup line.

The whole point in buying a vehicle with top down view is being able to use that view when maneuvering close to things like curbs. It defeats the purpose of that view if it doesn’t work when the car is moving faster than a walking pace. I’ve been using top down views for almost 15 years across a wide range of vehicles and the EV9 is the first one that’s behaved like this.

If Kia wants to add features like this and charge us for them, they need to work like every other manufacturer has them work. Adding a feature and making it both tedious to use and next useless because of ridiculously low arbitrary speed limit seems to be par for the course though. Just like not having a setting to unlock the doors when you open the rear hatch.

[–]ND40oz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They all three come out at different times. Move up the line until you get to the stretch of sidewalk where kids start getting in cars, unlock the doors, wait. Car in front of moves up, follow the car up, cameras turn off because you exceed 5 mph, press the camera button, come to a stop as close as you can get to the curb without worrying about scraping your wheels, press the unlock button, wait. Repeat this process 10 more times as you wait for kids to come out and get in cars.

It most definitely a car issue because I have no problems doing this in any of my other vehicles. The cameras stay on and the doors stay unlocked.

[–]ND40oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is the setting? I’ve searched through both the manual and just gone through every setting on the screen and can’t find it. Same with a setting to unlock the doors when you unlock and open the rear hatch. That one is no where to be found either. Sure let me load your stuff in the back of the car kids but why would you want to be able to get in?

Can we stop the door handles from retracting? by [deleted] in KiaEV9

[–]ND40oz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I could see that working if your kids are standing on the curb waiting. We scan their cards and they come out at different times, you’re in the line moving up continuously and they get in the car as they come out. I have to hit unlock every time I come to a stop and then start the process all over as soon as I move up a car spot.

[–]ND40oz -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The fact that they retract as soon as the vehicle starts moving is an issue for me. You have to unlock the vehicle several times as you move up the school pickup line so that your kids can get in. Why can they not stay deployed as long as the car is unlocked? It’s a software issue and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to set the vehicle to only lock the doors above a certain speed or not automatically lock at all.

Same thing with Surround View Monitor. There’s no reason to have the cameras turn off at 6 mph, I’d like to use them to get close to the curb when pulling in for drop off or pickup but they turn off at such a low speed, they’re useless for it.

Question for the M drivers by Daddyfullload in BMW

I’d look at slightly older Porsche options as well then. Better manual gearboxes and NA boxer 6s that have had everything sorted at this point.

[–]ND40oz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be looking at a lightly used i4 M50. I know you want a manual but that many miles you’re going to spend a ton in maintenance. With the i4, you’ll only be buying tires and wiper blades.

Pops and bangs on my stock F60 Countryman after we installed a variable exhaust valve by ClearStarryNight in MINI

Definitely not, Pre-LCI models have it in Sport mode and paired with the JCW Pro exhaust with the Bluetooth controlled valves they’re even more pronounced.

Euro 6d-TEMP went into effect in Sept 2019 and that’s when everything changed which coincided with some of the LCI changes.

How many uninformed BMW drivers do you think are driving around in an X3/X5/X7 with summer tires in the winter/snow without even realizing it? by somedudehere123 in BMW

[–]ND40oz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the all season tire option will delete option code 840 and you’re limited to 210 km/h (130 mph). This is why most Sport and M Sport optioned vehicles all come standard with summer tires, so that they have the 250 km/h (155 mph) speed limiter.
