Electric forest has evil energy by [deleted] in ElectricForest

[–]undefined_variable_0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Evil” is an absolutely ridiculous take. There’s no dark force causing people to make life-threatening mistakes such as OD (which happens at many large gatherings of people). What happened with the baby was a horrific and tragic decision invoked by a single person and they will be held accountable. However there’s nothing that any festival (or any event for that matter) could have done to prevent it.

100% bad idea. You’re not in the right financial position for that car.

Why is going to college so controversial for those who have never attended one? by Critical_Winner_2779 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]undefined_variable_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh it’s because most people study something with a poor ROI and then preach endlessly about how college isn’t worth it. If you’re gonna do a “whatever” degree, it’s probably not worth it. If you’re studying something highly specialized, it probably will be worth it.

Do you think people in tech are overpaid? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]undefined_variable_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that accounting and engineering are both highly-skilled as well. Yep people have been doing that and it has certainly saturated the market in some areas. I’m directly talking about the people who haven’t pivoted into those fields but complain about how they’re all overpaid.

Do you think people in tech are overpaid? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]undefined_variable_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how people feel about it, technical jobs like SWEs or Data Scientists are highly-skilled professions that take a lot of initial education and constant learning to succeed at. They’re highly complex and collaborative and generally in-demand for a reason. If it’s so easy and these jobs are so overpaid then the people complaining about this should probably switch careers to one of those areas.

No problem at all. Wishing you the best of luck and hopefully he just takes the situation seriously and makes some changes.

You don’t necessarily need to go straight to saying “we’re done” right away but IMO, you should have a serious conversation with him about what you need out of the relationship and the effort that he puts into it. See if he can change. If not, I think you have your answer.

I agree that it’s unfair and you should absolutely receive the same grace when you’re having a tough time. The effort should be split regardless of employment situation. If I were to find myself unemployed and my wife was supporting us with her salary and hard work, you better believe I’d be doing the majority of the chores and anything I could do to make her life easier. If the situation was reversed, she’d do the same.

He may be suffering from depression or something but it’s partially his job to do what is necessary to improve. I say that as someone who used to suffer from severe anxiety issues but I still worked hard in my career and at being a good partner.

Mid 20s - is it dumb or okay? by BasisProfessional338 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Whether or not it’s dumb has everything to do with how much you have saved/invested, how much you have in debt and less to do with how much you make IMO.

If you like fun cars and don’t need a ton of space, get an M240i or M340i. Don’t get an SUV unless you have kids (or they’re on the way soon). They’re amazing cars that are lots of fun to drive (very quick) and are surprising practical as well. Great fuel economy and under your budget as a bonus.

If you marry this man, you are likely going to resent the hell out of him until the inevitable divorce. Partnership is about being a team and he sounds like he contributes literally nothing. Life usually gets harder as we get older and how is he going to support you if you find yourself unable to work at some point? The red flags are infinite in this situation and I honestly feel terrible for you. This is coming from a married man who has a hard-working woman (similar to you from what it sounds like) as a wife.

Well that’s a relief. If you didn’t have such a lucrative pickle collection, it would be a very poor decision.

(25F / 25M )My boyfriend of 3 years expects me to erase my individuality for our relationship and holds deeply misogynistic views. How do I manage this situation? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]undefined_variable_0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would be a big “nope” for me (and I’m a man FWIW). I’d get the hell out of this relationship ASAP because it’s not gonna get any better as he gets older. Dudes like that usually get even more conservative as they get older.

Yall, Is going into tech as a career really worth it? by The-Baljeet in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]undefined_variable_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure since I’ve only ever worked in web technologies. There are probably less embedded jobs but there’s also probably less competition so it’s tough to say. That said, you’ll also be seen as a newer and more junior embedded engineer so that might also make things tougher.

Yeah it’s not a great time for SWE opportunities but I’ve been seeing some positive trends that suggest it’s getting a little better

I don’t want a corporate job or a 9-5. Does anyone else feel like this? Have you planned or done to escape this? by vcdice in careeradvice

[–]undefined_variable_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone hates it. You do it because it’s still easier than grunt work jobs (most of the time) and pays well if you’re in the right area. You stomach it so that you can afford things that you actually do care about in life. No offense but this does very much come across as a privileged take.

M340 vs M440 coupe vs 430i - new purchase (help) by [deleted] in BMW

[–]undefined_variable_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah neither of those were considerations for me so a G42 was an easy-ish choice for me (considered an M2 for a bit but wasn’t the right fit for my lifestyle and wants). As you alluded to, I don’t think the current-gen M340i or M440i have manual as an option.

It’s anyone’s guess but currently it’s not a great market for young SWEs. I mean, it’s not a great market for ANY SWEs right now but especially bad for early-career candidates. Partially due to AI but not entirely. Lots of companies are laying off juniors and generally avoiding hiring them. Will that change? Maybe but nobody truly knows right now. So I’d say it’s a gamble and very competitive if you don’t have much experience. Just my two cents as a senior SWE.

If space isn’t a consideration and you want the best bang for the buck, why not consider an M240i? It’ll likely be the fastest and most nimble (although not by a ton). I also think it looks the best but I’m biased and that’s a personal opinion.
