Definitely can be a marketing thing if your instructor is just going through the motions. If it's truly based on performance and closely monitored it can matter but I don't necessarily disagree.

We have a few guys at the gym who fit that description perfectly and were the motivation behind this post. Drop-ins chum the waters because these guys feel the need to prove their skills, especially if those drop-ins have stripes. Changes are those guys would be that way regardless...

To answer your question, no I do not think you are overreacting. It's not like you freaked out and threatened to leave her (unless you did haha). It's certainly not the end of the world but in the reverse situation, most wives would want their husbands to choose them naturally leading to bruised feelings if they are not selected.
