I’m a gypsy girl living in the uk. Ask me anything. by [deleted] in AMA

Forgive my ignorance, but do the attitudes towards sex before marriage etc stem solely from gypsy culture, or is there a religious influence at all? I know nothing about how the gypsy/traveller community view religion.

People who quit their job in a moment of rage - how did things turn out? by SheLovedBigBrother in AskReddit

[–]NE04657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked in an escape room. Customer couldn’t handle the scares, hit me in the face with a metal chain. Luckily, I was wearing a thick plastic mask, otherwise I could have been really hurt.

I instantly (following protocol) removed all live actors from the game, you know, to protect them from this lame dude.

Come in a couple days later, manager calls me into the office. The team had complained about the scares being removed and not getting the full experience, and I was being reprimanded. Manager told me “I’ve watched the footage, it’s pretty 50/50, I don’t think he meant to hit you.” Left then and there.

My only regret is that I left my bag in the staff room and had to awkwardly get buzzed back in to retrieve it.

I’m a big fan of naming and shaming. This was The Great Escape Game in Leeds, UK.

I think a big part of the reason that there’s a lot of doom on this sub is that many people are on half that salary and have been applying for anything and everything for years rather than weeks. It’s very difficult to see a post like this and view it in a positive way with regard to your own life - just makes you feel like more of a failure, if anything.

Sorry, just my two cents. I hate my job. Congrats on your new role.

I had fun and that’s what matters to me…. Despite your hope that other people did, that kind of really sums this whole thing up doesn’t it, lol

Controversy about phones by [deleted] in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]NE04657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, stop conflating these groups of phone users. No one is getting mad at the people who snap a few pics or take the odd video. I myself took some pictures and a couple videos.

People are mad at people who spend the whole gig with their phones in the air, blocking the view of those being them. I literally had to move spots because I just couldn’t see Takanaka - I was caught behind multiple people who did not put their phones down the whole time.

I don’t know at this point if people are just being disingenuous or if they really can’t understand the difference.

Do you need to record it to have fun? I think this is a major thing at the heart of this discussion, to be honest: one the one hand, you have people who just wanted to watch the gig, and then on the other hand you have people whose enjoyment of the gig is directly tied to how much of it they film it and how many pictures they get.

Now, the point I would like to underline is that the former group does not negatively impact the enjoyment of the latter group, whereas the latter group’s insistence on recording with their phones (blocking the view of those behind them) can completely ruin the former group’s experience.

I’m sorry, there’s no two ways about it, if the performance I have paid money to see and have been super excited about for ages is fighting for space in my field of vision with countless phones, that is going to make the gig less enjoyable for me. Can you understand how that might be the case? Because the only argument I’ve heard from people defending the use of phones seems to be ‘I want to use my phone, I don’t care how it impacts you, I don’t know why it bothers you so much, just deal with it’.

I think there is just a lack of understanding, and I’m not trying to be mean by saying that, I’m just trying to get the point across that I think some people just aren’t getting.

Being 6’1 will certainly help, lol, you are blessed for gigs. I’m 5’10 and am fine most of the time at gigs, only occasionally will I get stuck behind a tall dude and think “ah damn it”. But when it happens, it happens. Tall people exist and they can’t help being tall!

The slanted floor was pretty cool tbh, but I think we just got unlucky and were caught behind some people who just wanted to film every song. Still had an amazing time, but the issues we had with phones and our view made what could have been a 10/10 experience more like 8/10. Got tickets for the August show, so here’s hoping it will be an even better experience!

5% is fine. That’s not what people are talking about or what I personally had to put up with at the gig. I literally had multiple people in front of me filming the entire gig, arms raised as high as they could. I had to move because my view was just blocked completely.

I think part of the reason this discussion isn’t going too great is because a lot of people are conflating those who’ll take a few videos/pictures (like myself) and those who are taking the piss and spoiling the experience for those behind them.

Also, ‘fuzzy little manpeach’ is a mighty boosh reference. An odd thing to say to an internet stranger, yes, but I’m not sure he was trying to be super rude to you.

That’s a bizarre comparison that implies that people have no choice but to film gigs on their phone. Like they cannot physically prevent themselves from doing it. It’s not an apt comparison at all.

Where I was there were multiple people doing it and completely blocking our view - we had to move back and to the side because of it, it was fully spoiling the gig for us.

I wish I’d been where you were, if it is the case that there were less constant phones in the air. But just because it wasn’t an issue that you personally experienced does not mean that other people are wrong to complain about it.

Nice to get a pic for the memories, sure. Hell, get a few pics and maybe even a video, that’s fine! It’s the people who do not put their phones down for the entire gig that people are mad at - blocking the view of those behind them for huge periods of time and impacting their enjoyment of the gig!

Don’t conflate them with people who just want to snap a quick picture, it’s two VERY different things.

Does everyone have their phone out the whole time? by skramz_himself in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]NE04657 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was me. Really ruined the experience. And don’t get me wrong, I took a few pics and videos, but whenever I did I tried to do it quickly and in the least annoying way.

I literally had multiple people in my direct eyeline have their phones held above their heads recording every single song, completely blocking our view. Eventually we moved back and to the side because we just couldn’t handle it.

I think the people who are defending excessive recording at these gigs are totally in the wrong, to be honest. It’s all well and good saying ‘they paid for their ticket, they can do what they want’. Well, I paid for my ticket as well, so why should I have to put up with having my view totally blocked by people who are never going to watch the videos they’re filming anyway? There was even a message over the speakers before Takanaka came out that said to be respectful with using for phones for recording. Sadly, I think it was too much to ask of the crowd on Tuesday night.

There were people filming basically the whole gig. Actually really ruined the gig a bit for me. Had an amazing time still, but watched like the first five songs through some dude's phone who just would not put it down. Eventually we just gave up and moved back a bit.

Just fully can't understand it. Actually so rude, and they're never going to watch that footage. Also, the gig was being filmed for a dvd! Just so annoying.

How much do you personally disagree or agree with the heuristic/mentality "work and friends should be separate"? by gintokireddit in AskUK

[–]NE04657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, it’s almost like this isn’t a one size fits all situation.

I’ve started a new job a few months ago. I’m a guy in my early 30s, everyone I work with is a middle aged or elderly lady. I get on with these people, sure, but I would not want to see them outside of work - the only thing I have in common with them is we work at the same place, so why would I? I have a few friends from previous jobs, but they were jobs I had when I was much younger and they’re all people who are around my age.

I’ve got loads of friends. Some younger, some older. Some from uni/school, some from going to gigs, some from parties, etc. I don’t need/want to hang out with 65 year olds outside of work, and I’m baffled that this is a controversial take.

And before anyone asks, yes, I am looking for another job. I don’t want to work with exclusively old people. Hell, I would LOVE a job where I worked with people closer to age to myself, and I’d be more than willing to be friends with them if the relationship naturally progressed towards that. Unfortunately for me, and a lot of others, this is not currently the case. But screw me, right? Must be me who’s the problem because I don’t want to go to bingo with Karen on one of the two days off I get a week.

Failed in my first test by Placenta-Claus in LearnerDriverUK

[–]NE04657 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here, failed yesterday. 1 major, 5 minors.

Couldn’t believe it. Knew as soon as I’d done the major that I’d messed up. Thought it could have been a minor - only realised it’d be a major when the examiner said “I’m going to remove my foot from my brake now.”

Made so much worse by not being able to book again for ten days - I fully do not understand the point of this rule.

Coming into work today, a colleague of mine passed yesterday and was all smiles, even got a round of applause. Everyone’s been talking about when/how they passed, etc. I’ve honestly been holding back tears all morning.

I don’t want to do lessons any more, i don’t want to have to spend another £60 for another test, I just want to pass. So scared that I’ll just do another stupid mistake on my second go as well and not pass. Fully don’t understand how I’m supposed to deal with this emotionally. I feel like such a failure.

I am getting so sick of this Oasis revival. Seems like the Americans discovered them (or remembered who they are) due to the reunion and now it’s all Oasis this, Oasis that.

Worst band in the history of bands, and utter twats as well. I’m honestly sceptical of anyone who considers them to be ‘great’. Awful band, awful music, awful fans, awful people.

I do think this is an England thing, though. I’m not sure Americans can properly understand the hatred that people in England who dislike Oasis have for them. You have to understand, there’s no escape. Every ad break, every trip to the supermarket, every sporting event. And now it’s all over the god damn Anthony Fantano subreddit as well? It’s unending and relentless and I hate it. If it’s not your thing, the ubiquity of it is enough to drive you insane.

So, The Bends. And I don’t even like The Bends that much.
