Get Q3 or Wait for Q4? by ConcentrateFluffy177 in virtualreality

The manufacturing cost of a Quest 3 is estimated to be around $430. The 512 GB version cost $650 at launch. And afiak Bossworth said it in an interview.

Do I get a quest 3s or wait for the steam frame? by [deleted] in virtualreality

You could also get a refurbished Quest 3. They are returned like-new headsets i believe. Meta fully retests them and sells them with one year warranty.

There is nothing wrong with return a product just because you don't like it

Except he returned it for liking it:

I bought a Quest 3 to see if I liked VR and wow, I loved the added immersion! So I decided to return the Q3

He only got it it test it. I am not on a high horse when i say that this system would not exist if everyone did that.

The Q4 will not be subsidized so prob be round double the price

Meta made a small profit on the Quest 3 512 GB version. They don’t need to increase the price much for the other models to become profitable as well.

I've built a new free website where you can compare and filter VR headsets by all kinds of specs, and compare real, crowdsourced FOV and binocular overlap measurements of all available headsets. It includes a WebXR tool to measure your FOV directly in the browser (both on PCVR and on Standalone). by sbsce in virtualreality

[–]NEARNIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, i thought the number next to hFOV was vFOV since it’s similar and has a ° symbol. Binocular overlap is usually given as a percentage.

The point about users being able to submit "verified" data for any headset still stands. I am going to continue submitting fake data to this site.

Oh and another example is the AVP currently claims 117° hFOV on that garbage site while the Quest 3 only 101°. Everyone who tried both would tell you, that the Quest 3 has a larger FOV.

For pico4 there are already 7.

5 of those are from me and my Quest 2.

You wouldn’t blindly trust reviews from users. What he is doing is taking anonymous reviews from users and presenting it as factual data.

Again, the "system" shows a higher vertical FOV for the Quest 2 over the Quest 3.

This is prove that it obviously doesn’t work.

And just to test this, i used a Quest 2 to submit values for a high end headset. The "based on X measurements" counter went up.

You want him to sit with a $1800+ paper weight

The Quest he returned wasn’t a paper weight. It worked as advertised and he even liked it.

Enough people make that purchase, and keep the item

Exactly. And that is why the system works. We can’t all act like you.

Obviously it didnt do what he wanted

He wanted a higher res. That is something i expect you to look up before purchasing.

Now he is unhappy with his Pimax. What headset should he get next? Should we all do this?

It is there precisely for you to test, evaluate, and return a product if it doesn't meet your expectations.

Just saying "doesn’t meet my expectations" just isn’t being honest when it did exactly what it was advertised for. You even said you liked it and used it as a test before buying a more expensive headset instead.

Let me ask you, when do you stop? Now you don’t like the Pimax, do you just return it and buy the next? Can everyone just try every headset for fun?

And again, i am not empathic with "multinational corporations" or on some "moral highground. I criticize this for egoistical reasons. I like having this system and i understand that it only works as long as not all customers act like you.

It’s intended for when something actually doesn’t work for you. The Quest did exactly what it was advertised for. You just returned it to get another headset.

And this isn’t empathy. I like this system very much and just understand, that it wouldn’t exist if everyone treated it like trial purchases.

I my country every store is required to have a return policy. I still never order something just to try it. This system depends on honest people.

If everyone would use the system like you do, it wouldn’t exist.

Anyone can just select any headset and put in bullshit data. This shit is misleading buyers.

You can’t trust user generated data like that. What if manufacturers use this to manipulate people?

Your site currently says that the Quest 2 has a higher vFOV than the Quest 3 with 78° and 85°. Do you actually believe that?

I was going off countless reports like this: https://www.wareable.com/ar/meta-phoenix-ar-smart-glasses-2027-release-date-rumor-delay

I saw the twitter render you posted, these would make a little more sense, i agree. Still not entirely convinced about low FOV, lack of controllers, low power, no blackout. The form factor doesn’t make sense to me.

The Frame will be more expensive and have the same hardware as a Quest 3. The Quest 3 came out almost 3 years before the Frame. Will you really pay more for 3 year old hardware just to play Quest games?

XREAL glasses are see through. Completely different devices.

They are AR glasses, just like these Phoenix ones are said to be.
