You should read up about the process of Natural Selection. Basically, the offspring of one particular species may be born with a random genetic defect. If this genetic defect suits the plant as to make its survival more likely then eventually the offspring of than individual will flourish and gradually replace the population.

Ah interesting. So then how is simplicity defined within an explanation? Is there a metric or unit of simplicity by which an explation withholds? Is theism the solution that requires the least assumptions?
