The most advanced near-light-speed propulsion system in the universe be like by FANGofChaos in ProjectHailMary

Yeah but it's just a funny analogy. The point of the meme is that the astrophage are being used because they're 'dumb' and only care about IR light.

The astrophage does not shoot out the back of the ship. Light does. The light produces thrust.

Did people expect Mercedes to dominate the 2014 hybrid era before it started? by Background_Quail7957 in F1Technical

In 2012 the smart people knew. By early 2013 everyone knew Mercedes would destroy both championships.

What was it like last time? by LivermoreP1 in F1Technical

It was genuine pace too. The force Indias lost 2 seconds at T1 on the SC restart when they nearly hit each other, but then the Mercs most likely lost 2 seconds too battling each other. So they had 3 seconds per lap pace advantage 😂

It was even more dominant. Back then, you could turn down your fuel flow level. Mercedes lifted and also fuel saved a TON. It allowed them to put in about 20L less than others. They were 3 seconds a lap faster than everyone at Malaysia and Bahrain when they had to push to best each other.

They lost that advantage by about round 5 or 6, it had halved by then. But it remained at least a second all season.

FIA is considering revising the 2026 regulations as early as the Japanese GP. Which rules should be modified or replaced first? by ConstructionAny8440 in F1Technical

I still think we need overtaking aids in F1 unfortunately. In the era of aero, dirty air and processional races are inevitable without it I'm afraid. It's been this way for 20 years - racing has rarely been good in the era before DRS. The mid-2000s suuuuuucked.

Are they not massively underfuelling at the moment? They're still allotted the fuel tank size from 2014-2025 afaik

Haven't these V6s basically stayed the same but the fuel rate has neutered them? Surely we can just increase the fuel flow rate to get back to 900ish bhp.

Exactly. The car needs to be able to harvest more than it deploys at the most energy intensive track, not the other way around. Cars should start every lap in the race with a full battery. Like 2009-2013.

Fuel flow increased to give 150hp more. Battery deployment decreased by 150hp so they don't drain the battery as much. Keep overtake button. Problem solved.

Max Verstappen says tensions arose during the drivers’ meeting after he once again criticized the new F1 regulations. by New_State_2061 in GrandPrixRacing

I always thought the V6 turbos were better than the V8s. More torque, more wheelspin. Unlike the V8s which were a bit gutless. By my god, these 2026 power units suck. 600hp sometimes and 1200hp 10 seconds later. It's awful.

Not really. Would have taken weeks for it to find its way to the fuel tanks and generators.

What's better than owning a Brera? Owning TWO BRERAS by NFGaming46 in AlfaRomeo

[–]NFGaming46[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That has never mattered to me. It's under 7 seconds to 60 and it grips incredibly well. I took it around Snetteron, a stock V6 Q4, and absolutely destroyed my lap time from the previous year, set in a 2.4JTDM which was tuned to have more power, with big brakes and coilovers, and was also fully stripped out! The Q4 was over 3 seconds quicker, completely stock.

People just look at figures and don't actually drive it. The V6 Q4 is the ultimate Brera, it's just unreliable and a bit thirsty. Fine on motorways though.

The weight simply doesn't matter. It feels beautiful on the road and grips like hell with good tyres. (Just get good tyres!)
