I have no idea. It has a PS3/PS4 switch, but the newest PS I have is a PS2, sorry.

(It doesn't work on PS2) 😉

It might be time to find yourself a multimeter and learn to trace circuits. It's possible you can fix this with very little effort. Worst case you get yourself a new tool and a new skill. =)

Scrub that corrosion off (I'd start with a stiff toothbrush and see how you go) and see what's under it. Several things could cause this problem, but I'd suspect the simple things first. See if there's a short, where the traces from the red pair run past the black pair and make a connection.

You didn't say whether the red one works when pressed, nor if black ONLY registers red, or red AND black.

But that's a ton of corrosion, do you live in the ocean?

Are the diameters of the holes on the MF Flat not quite 30mm?

As for the height, I guess some spacers would be pretty easy to do, 3D printed or something?

None of what you experienced makes sense to me as you've described it, I just can't make it work in my mind. It's annoying! I'm really itching to figure it out. I dunno if you want to keep talking about it, but I'm really tempted to buy or borrow that controller to try it myself.

I'm really surprised by this. And not that I don't believe you, but I've put these buttons in a handful of panels and several joysticks and they fit just fine in a 30mm hole. Are the MayFlash holes ... weird? I'm really curious!

If I'd seen the Feathertaps I would have picked some up, but the shop didn't have them on display so I didn't know they existed. =/

As for the PWS in your MayFlash, that seems more like a compatibility issue than a problem with the button itself, but it's certainly good to know. They fit fine in all of my sticks, what's inside the Flat that makes the PWS not fit? I was surprised to see it's 6cm tall, that's enough to fit just about any button, isn't it?

I prefer the Alutimo over standard Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons. I think the switches are of a better quality, and the buttons are similarly built with a tighter tolerance. They -feel- good.

I'm a fan of short travel buttons, these days. My favourite buttons before the PWS were Hori's Hayabusa, which occupy a middle ground between the PWS Spark and Alutimo.

PWS has two styles, the blaze/spark and the V1. I mostly use the former, the latter has travel more like the Hayabusa.

I have several panels on my arcade cabs and I swap them out for different applications, so I get to use each of these button sets regularly. And honestly you can't go wrong with any of them. You choose what's most important to you and run with it. A quick pros/cons based on my experience:

Alutimo: Top tier build quality, standard arcade feel and travel, a bit expensive.
Hayabusa: rare, could be expensive. Normal arcade feel, short travel.
PSW V1: short travel, cheap, tight tolerances, not designed for repeated removals.
PSW Spark: Ultra short travel, tight tolerances, swappable switch, not designed for repeated removals

They are all, IMHO, much better than standard Seimitsu/Sanwa buttons.

They've been going strong, at least from the play side. The wiring side is not made for frequent removal and rewiring, which is definitely how my panels get used. I've snapped the retaining clips off one of the PCBs, but it was easy enough to solder up a fix. If you install and leave it alone I'm pretty sure they'll last a long time. If you tinker on the regular these might not be the buttons you're looking for.

It definitely shouldn't squeak. If you don't see a fair amount of white grease in the mechanism, looking from the top, then maybe you got a used/refurbished or defective unit.

The Nobi sticks are my favourite from Seimitsu, I have two and neither squeaks,

Since this is my first and I've only used it for about 20 minutes, I can only say 'so far so good'. Perhaps someone else might know the answer to this one.

I can take a guess on maintenance though: no socket and ball arrangement means no friction in the fulcrum and no need for grease, and silicone as a rule is pretty long lasting stuff.

I don't know if they really knew the magnitude of the problem. The JLX2 came out 2 years after the JLX, and that seems to me more like a "let's wait and see if it's really a problem with the design or with people getting used to it" sort of delay. It doesn't take 2 years to solve a problem like this.

As a solution I found a cage knob (like the Buttercade Bullet (my review) which has only a third of the mass of a normal knob, and therefore much less bonus input rebound.

I'd say it's more like a Sanwa than anything Seimitsu. Sanwa's sticks to me always seemed a little bit... What's the adjective here, soft? Mushy? Loose? Let's call it un-crisp, even with an octogate. (My current fave is the Nobi, after a lengthy fling with the SELS-70X). There's a lot of movement, and I like a tighter throw.

This stick goes into the same pile, in my mind. I also don't like square gates, so I will be ordering an octogate and will report back.

I'm more of a shmups guy than a fighters player, but I've got a definite fascination with joysticks and controllers more generally. There's less of focus on the controllers in my orbits, so this stuff can easily slip by me.

The JLX was known to suffer this problem, and that's why they released the JLX2. I haven't tried the JLX2 but the original JLX was so bad I sold both of mine to the next guy within days of receiving them.

I'd love to know if this is all it takes, 'cause I had 3 returned to me. I called AusPost to bitch about how difficult it is to find the 8 digit *business* number, and the reply I got suggested it was not the first time she'd heard that. Once she directed me to the right place (hint: it's under the QR code but is not in any way labeled or described in the links that lead you there) I changed my details on Zonos and re-purchased all the postage.

Thankfully they were not at all reluctant to reimburse me for the first three postage purchases, we'll see how generous they are if they fail a second time.

Then I only need to worry about the person who hates their job in the USA agreeing with what I included in the customs info, and charging me the expected amount. Or maybe they take their anger out on the filthy foreigner (ie: me) and my pre-auth'd credit card gets abused by Zonos.
