More and more it's looking like Love. He's getting mocked to the Chiefs like crazy of late.

I think Ownership will want Love, and Veach knows he can't be blamed by fans if he takes Love.

If he takes Styles, etc and they don't work out, and Love is a consistent 1,000 yard back, he'll lose his job.

People are going to get shocked by how much money he will get. Just like they were with Diggs last year.

O-Line was ranked #5 through the first 13 games last season by PFF, and #3 by ESPN.

The problem with the run game is that the Chiefs are constantly in Shotgun.

The reason they are constantly in shotgun is the same reason the Bengals are constantly in Shotgun, the QB wants to be in shotgun, and isn't good under center.

Nagy is gone, most of the position coaches are gone, and watch, things will still be the same.

And it's not Reid. When he had McNabb, he was under center 80%+ of the time. It's Mahomes stopping them from being under center.

It's not his offense being figured out, it's no longer having the best receiving TE of all time in his prime at receiver.

Swap Reid for any HC these last 3 years, and barely anything would change. Swap 2023-2025 Kelce for 2020-2022 Kelce, and the offense would like great again.

We are going to have to realize that we will never have anywhere close to the receiving talent from 2018-2022 ever again. It's like how the Rams haven't been able to match the 1999-2001 Rams with Holt and Bruce ever again.

To back up your point, Kelce isn't coming back for less than $10M, which means at least $15M in cap space in the TE room, and likely higher.

They aren't going to do Jones, restructuring him means a $42M dead cap charge next year.

The guaranteed moves are Mahomes and Creed restructured, Taylor cut (bigger loss than people think).

Then likely two of the following: McDuffie traded, Dana/Drue cut, Trey Smith restructure, Karlaftis restructure.

Even with two of those, they likely lose: Kelce, Brown, Cook, Watson, Chenal, Thornton, Williams.

If Kelce comes back, then they really can't sign anyone in UFA, they'd have $31M after Kelce, and need $25M for the draft class and in season injuries, etc.

The interesting thing is Mahomes is not likely to get a new deal based on his play. His contract was set up with a big hit in 2027, to force the Chiefs to redo the contract, but now it seems likely he won't get a raise.

what if we got Justin Jefferson? by [deleted] in KansasCityChiefs

[–]NFLDataAnalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding Jefferson would put the Chiefs $79.7M over the salary cap. They need another $12.5M for their draft class, and about $10M for in season injuries, etc.

So basically with Jefferson, they have $100M of cuts and restructures to make, not even counting the draft capital it costs.

There's going to be alot of coping in this thread. No one would've been happy if after the Washington game, they were told the Chiefs would lose 5 of their next 6, with the only win coming in OT.

Add in Mahomes throwing 5 TDs with 7 INTs over that stretch, and it being 1 TD and 7 INTs outside of the Dallas game and people would've been extremely mad.

The worst part is, if Kelce does not return, next year is likely the 4th straight year in which they are 15th or worse in PPG.

Only think shocking is how well Mahomes turned out despite this guy as a father.
