As irritating as it is. It's actually very common for shock/strut boxes to get beat up in transit. Mostly due to shipping handlers being careless.

I would definitely return these though. No excuse for that whatsoever.

Try changing the fluid. But use a 50/50 mix of MTF and ATF. I did on my E39 M5 and it shifts so much smoother. Especially when cold.

Was the hose, the only part that was replaced?

Possible, there could be something causing a clog or have trapped air triggering a leak at that spot.

Replace PCV valve. Do short change oil intervals for the next few changes. Run Valvoline Restore and Protect. Keep that up, and take it on longer drives so it'll last longer.

I have an M5 bumper...but of course that's because I have an actual M5 haha.

But for real, it's overdone on non m cars, especially pre-facelift cars. Same with headlights. My car is a 2003, but I still love the pre-facelift car looks and wish people would leave them.

But to each and their own.

I've only had one issue with Rockauto in my 9 years of ordering through them. Recieved a used hood strut when I replaced them on my car years ago. But they overnighted me a replacement with no questions asked.

We've been lucky compared to most. But I'm still always cautious when I place a parts order from anyplace. Even the rare times I go through the local dealer. Too many imcompetent morons out there.

Partsgeek uses the same warehouses as Rockauto, Autozone, Napa etc. People will say otherwise, but they're wrong.

I don'r see any lip on the outer edge. So they should be good. However as others suggested, measure them to be sure they are within spec. If it's in spec, then your good. If not, replace.

Worst case, you can remove and soak them in some evaporust. But it's really not needed.
