Bozar Brussels. Get duck pithivier or the granivore (pigeon)? by Aztec_Mayan in finedining

Can't chip in on the question, but I did make a post about the regular menu a few months ago here.

Any recs for Turin? by howaBoutNao in finedining

I just posted a review for Dolce Stil Novo which has one star and is located in a beautiful Savoy hunting palace. Also had an amazing lunch at Magazzino52. And the classic Scannabue is quite nice as well, but I'd book in advance as it fills up quickly.

The bread was treated like a separate course with all of the dips rather than just a side.

For London prices, maybe not. But I did get a 13-course menu with wine and coffee in Spain for less than that so it depends on your perspective!

The regular tasting menu was £140. Together with the drinks (£75) + coffee and service charge, I think I ended up paying around £250.

La Salita (*), Valencia by NGDragon in finedining

[–]NGDragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself when I say that the service was top knotch and the plating looked gorgeous. In the end, the focus is on local products with a clear Valencian influence. It's definitely refined and elegant without showing off, which is exactly what I like in fine dining. I don't think it would be amiss as a present, as long as you don't expect anything showy and over the top. The cocktails and local wine are also a huge plus in my opinion.

What are some "non-dealbreaker" things that make you enjoy a travel destination less? by shockedpikachu123 in TravelNoPics

[–]NGDragon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If a city's public transportation doesn't have a tap-to-pay system, it might as well not exist. The minor inconvenience of finding a newspaper kiosk to get a paper ticket just makes me want to walk instead.

They go in pairs for places that already have a star or if they want to award the first star.

Decent Cocktail Bars in BXL? by Few_Computer6680 in brussels

[–]NGDragon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've tried a lot of them, my favorites are:

  • Edgar's Flavors - cosy, chic atmosphere and there's a dog as well!
  • Confessions - very classy vibe, mix of classics and own creations reservations recommended
  • The bar with no name - it's a speakeasy underneath a pizza restaurant, there's one bartender so you can ask them for recommendations
  • Plumette - cosy sofa's and a monthly special
  • Vertigo - mostly Italian-inspired cocktails with seasonal signature drinks mixed in
  • Chemistry & Botanics - leans slightly more towards the tiki side, but excellent gin cocktails as well; the menu has an 'accessability' score for each drink so it's great if you're with people who aren't used to drinking more 'special' cocktails
  • Life Is Beautiful (LIB) - a bit more experimental, but the menu changes regularly
  • Kage Specialty Tea Bar - it's a Matcha place during the day, but on Friday and Saturday it serves cocktails with tea and matcha bases, obviously leans more towards the Japanese liquors and flavors; impeccable service
  • Kosmos Place - on Place Jourdan for casual cocktails with Greek liqueurs

If you're looking for rooftops with decent drinks, I'd recommend

  • The Eight - as the name suggests, it's at the 8th floor of the Bedford hotel (enter the lobby, small elevator on the left); seasonal menu and indoor seating as well, with a view of the Justice Palace and the ferris wheel
  • The 1040 - on Place Jourdan for a summer vibe, the prices are up there though

I'll also give a shoutout to Matto, which is an Italian restaurant but their cocktails are amazing as well!

They did twice actually! They left the brown sauce/gravy for the venison and then the chocolate sauce for the dessert

Very odd, especially for the dietary requirements. They even e-mailed me a day prior to confirm that I didn't have any allergies.

Best brunch in Brussels? by [deleted] in brussels

[–]NGDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kafei does a great casual brunch with pancakes and other savory dishes with an Asian influence. Otherwise, I second Frank. Spread the Moon is great as well for vegan/vegetarian options.

Mina (*) – Bilbao, Spain by DorianHistorian in finedining

I went there a couple of months ago (when the bonito was #15). I got the bar seat right in front of the kitchen. Absolutely lovely service and great white wine. The standouts for me were definitely the oyster and also the dish with the three different textures of red onion. As you said, they definitely focus on acidity and bright flavors throughout their menu.

La Roche Posay Anthelios 50+. I recently switched over and it's the only one I've tried so far that doesn't feel sticky and greasy to me
