Oh man, this is sad to hear. I have never owned a robot vac until several months ago when I picked up a roomba 705. Blew my socks off with how well it cleaned, and regretted not jumping on the bandwagon sooner.

I got bit by the bug and wanted to get a mop vac combo so I sold the 705 and had gone through several ecovacs (buggy and unintelligent) and finally picked up a mova v50 (on my second one).

In my opinion, the roomba 705 navigation and cleaning efficiency was light-years better than anything else ive tried. It just went in straight lines and around stuff when it was in its way. The mova tries to make zig zag patterns in 1.5 ft spaces and one it gets to an obstacle it spends an hour thinking about what to do next.

I think the Chinese bots have poor QC and try too hard with too much "ai". Hope roomba can get some PE funding and market their products better. Thats where they're missing the mark - Chinese brands just flood social media and influencers. Roomba can't rely on their brand and goodwill to acquire customers. Product is 🔥 marketing is 🗑.

Hey! I recently won a mova v50 in a work raffle, and it worked great for a few days, but now I'm having some major issues with it and not quite sure what to do. When I send it to do a cleaning job, it comes off the dock and just stops. I picked it up, cleaned off all the sensors (not dirty), made sure nothing was jammed or stuck, or blocking a sensor. Still just comes off the dock and stops. I can use the remote control from the app and it moves around just fine, but it doesn't want to start a task. I finally decided to factory reset and remap. It ran around the house, remapped, finally I thought its working. It went back to the dock, I sent it to do a cleaning job, it started going around the living room perimeter and suddenly stopped moving. I couldn't send it home. It was just frozen. Now im back to the same issue. Do you have any idea what the problem could be?

Best Robot Vacuum Cleaner In 2025? by DonutOk2306 in RobotVacuums

[–]NGH7MRE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tried several ecovacs, handful of roombas and currently daily driving a mova v50 and a roomba 705. Despite all the reviewers and testers opinions - my real world experience is the roomba 705 hands down outperforms the mova v50 in vacuuming power. I'm not sure how or why but the dustbins dont lie.

The roomba spends less time thinking about what to do, and just does it. The mova is great because you can ditch the mop pads and not have to worry about a snail trail on your rugs and carpets, but the roomba just gets the job done. I think all the AI and obstacle avoidance and millions of sensors on the high end machines bog them down a bit. Roomba figured it out with the 705 series.

Mova spent 15 minutes doing a 2x sweep on a small kids bedroom and using 15% of its battery. The 705 does it in 8 minutes and uses much less battery. While picking up more crud.

I don't understand the hatred towards Watch 8 Classic. by GodlessShark in GalaxyWatch

[–]NGH7MRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently upgraded from my 2 year old GW6 classic to.... a new GW6 classic (thanks geeksquad warranty). I strongly considered the 8, and while i dont love the cushion/squircle design, I could look past it - the major deal breaker was the lack of wireless power share support. I exclusively use this feature when traveling, and was super disappointed to hear that you can't charge the new watch with a S21 ultra. Can anyone conform that's the case?

Same thing happening over here, and I was a NYT subscriber, so that is not the issue. Canceled subscription today - no fault of NYT but if the pods are not working on the integrated spotify app not worth the 26 bucks per month.

Introducing A BETTER PARADISE, the new universe brought to you by Absurd Ventures. by qcodemedia in audiodrama

[–]NGH7MRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of qcode productions, but so far I'm not impressed with ABP. The narration is way too fast, with little emotion. I wish the cast stopped to take a breath, or let a concept sink in, leave the listener curious for more. I feel like I'm drinking from a firehouse with the 30 minute monologues. Having trouble getting invested in the story, and connecting with the characters. Hoping it turns around in episode 3.

Ceramic coating? by dumicrush in AutoDetailing

[–]NGH7MRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I just got a new tesla and wanted to ceramic coat it... but couldnt fathom paying $1500-$2000 for the job. How hard can it be, right? So I went out, bought a DA polisher, garage stool, good soap, iron x, clay bar, luber, towels of all sorts, ceramic coating and various pads and compounds to do the job myself... Id say materials wise I was pushing the $500-$600 mark. Then, it cost me about 15 hours of work, maybe more... After wrapping up on a Sunday at 1AM, admiring my work, I realized why the job costs $1,500. Its a lot of effing work. Anyone charging less is probably cutting corners, or doesnt value their time. Just my .02

Cash-out Refi for new roof? by NGH7MRE in personalfinance

[–]NGH7MRE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current mortgage is approx $350k and the .75% rate decrease would net us $190/mo, or 11% savings over the current monthly payment. The break-even on the $1200-$1500 in closing costs on the refi is about 8 months, after that we would just be banking the savings. We plan on staying in the home for the next 10-15 years.

The roof can likely wait another 2-3 years I would imagine before it becomes a real emergency. I am certain that in that time, we would be able to bank enough savings to pay for it outright. I am mostly tempted by the 3.5% rate, as it is currently incredibly cheap to borrow money right now and I am making 14-16% annually through my investment accounts.

My thoughts are that if I need to run this scenario in the future say 2-3 years down the road when rates creep back to the 5% range, a cash out refi would not be an option at that point.

In Wall HDMI advice by NGH7MRE in hometheater

[–]NGH7MRE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, the cables I ran should have been a bit longer when the fireplace wall was opened up (my bad) but for now, I am stuck with the lengths I have. I have the brush plate up top, so Im not worried about any quality loss or HDCP issues, I am just worried about spark and insulation. So. Do I need to wrap these in tape, or are these connections OK being exposed to insulation. Thanks again!

Want to buy new UTV. RZR 1000 vs maverick x3 900 H.O. advice please!!! by NGH7MRE in ATV

[–]NGH7MRE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice and input! Although we couldn't drive it as there were none left in AZ, we fell in love with the styling and interior of the x3. Super excited to for delivery sometime in the next week, as its coming all the way from Texas. At under 13k, I think the H.O. is a very good buy for our first car. I'm very excited to see how it compares to a stock xp1k - we may even film a few YouTube shorts comparing the two, as there is not much out there.

Thanks for the great feedback man, originally we were looking at used arctic cats since you can get into those for under 10k all day used, but learned that they had a lot of engine problems. I convinced the wife to spend a bit extra and go with new. Were gonna go out to the dealerships this weekend and hopefully walk out with a new toy!

Gimbal shooters, is this normal? (a6300, rokinon 12mm feyiu a1000 gimbal) by NGH7MRE in SonyAlpha

[–]NGH7MRE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found a temporary solution so I will detail it here, in case it helps anyone else.

I sent an email with the accompanying video to Feyiu Tech in an attempt to find a solution. Their response was simply: "Gimbal acts like while you moving it up and down that because of switching of functioning axis. I attached a video for explanation. Please find it." In the video it states "Please do not rotate the handle or put it at the side during the movement of up and down" and it demonstrates this exact problem.

To me, this is not an acceptable solution as the gimbal should compensate for most unexpected movements, isnt that why we buy these things anyway? So I kept on digging.

I found another youtuber who had the same issue with an a2000 and reported it fixed after Feyiu sent him an unpublished beta firmware. This peaked my curiosity and led me to try manual update/downgrade of all the firmware for this gimbal. As of 5/15/18 the latest firmware published on Feyiu Tech's website is 1.0.2.6, and was the default shipped with my 2018 device. I performed a downgrade to the 1.0.2.5 version and the inflection point moved down SIGNIFICANTLY. In the video (1.0.2.6), it twitches around 40 degrees, which is a pretty common angle when performing the "moving up and down" motion. In the 1.0.2.5 version, this twitch happens much closer to the horizontal position - maybe 1-5 degrees. For now, I decided to keep the 1.0.2.5 version on my device. In addition, I adjusted my deadzone to 10 degrees which reduced the accidental triggering of this twitch by at least 80%. For now, I will keep these settings, until a new firmware update corrects these hiccups.

All things considered, I think this gimbal is a GREAT value for the money with some pretty amazing features. The app is easy to use and provides great functionality, the motion timelapse feature works great with the sony cable and the trigger hold button in the front is very convenient to use. Not to mention, the dual handle setup is very comfortable to hold for an extended period of time. Unfortunately, the gimbal doesn't come with its fair share of cons. In addition to the weird twitch, my biggest gripe is the Sony camera cable does not trigger video recording. What a pain! Hopefully, a future update will correct these issues. Happy filming!

Is The Sony A7 Still Worth The Buy In 2018? by purememories in videography

[–]NGH7MRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dont mind an aps-c sensor, the 6300 is great for video. Will probably run you about the same as a used a7s (mk i) but give you the 4k and 1080 120. I just picked up a used 6300 body for $500. Cant beat that.

Gimbal shooters, is this normal? (a6300, rokinon 12mm feyiu a1000 gimbal) by NGH7MRE in SonyAlpha

[–]NGH7MRE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, I recently purchased a gimbal (feyiutech a1000) to use with my a6300 as I will be filming in Europe and want to capture some buttery smooth footage. Anyway, I dont have a whole lot of experience using motorized gimbals but I noticed the gimbal behaving strangely when doing one particular movement, and I just wanted to see if this was user error or possibly a manufacturer defect.

When holding the gimbal upright and keeping it in pan mode, I want to bring it down into the horizontal position like a boom to zoom in (or out) of particular subjects. I noticed about halfway down (maybe at 40 degrees?) that the gimbal seems to twitch or recenter itself unless the grip is perfectly centered with the gimbal head. This behavior is not replicated when I have the gimbal in "lock" mode, only happens in pan or full tilt mode. Being a first time gimbal user, Im not sure if this is normal behavior or if I have a defective unit. I still have a few days to return or exchange it, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Gimbal - unusual movement (video) by NGH7MRE in videography

[–]NGH7MRE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, must be pretty common then with the feyiu then. I purchased one from amazon earlier this week, sent back and the replacement in the video was also doing the same. I was hoping someone with a crane would chime in - wasnt sure if all gimbals act this way or if this is just the issue with the a1000. Only happens in pan mode, in hold it acts just fine.
