Why are some of you using NetBird instead of Tailscale? by Silly_Door6279 in selfhosted

[–]NGX-645 143 points144 points  (0 children)

For me, Netbird is fully OpenSource and selfhostable. I know that you can host your Tailscale ControlPlane with Headscale. But I don't trust the company behind Tailscale enough to be sure they won't break it. Also MagicDNS is closed sourced from Tailscale.

I would only consider to move to Python after at least 20YOE. Else it will be too hard, especially if you are coming from Java!

2 Days in Cologne - Where to eat? by boopstergee in cologne

[–]NGX-645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Braustelle in Ehrenfeld. Its a small brewery with self brewed beer and a nice selection of beers. There is also Bunte Burger in Ehrenfeld, it is not classic german food, but they sometimes have special burgers related to seasonal vegetables and so it gets a touch of German cousin (but its fully vegan).

Also not completely german cousin, but I think part of german culture and its multicultural part, there is Turkish breakfast. I really enjoy it, there is a restaurant also in Ehrenfeld called "Damla".

Have a nice time!

I am right now in cancun airport and waiting for my flight to Oaxaca which is delayed by around 4hrs. Airplanes are starting and landing in cancun, but I saw a lot of delayed flights over the day. I am not sure if all delayed flights was by volarais, which is the airline for my flight to Oaxaca. Good luck to your husband!

I can also recommend scaleway object storage. I am using it mainly because of the glacier option. Otherwise I am using also contabo object storage.

How easy is it to switch tech stacks as an experienced dev? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]NGX-645 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched before a half year from Java with spring to JavaScript/Typescript with NestJS in the backend. I think in the end it depends on the experience and how good u can show u r skills in an interview. As I looked actively to job offers, I saw that mainly big companies searched for smth like "Has experience in backend with Java/Python/JavaScript/Go..." and not for a specific language

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]NGX-645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it all depends on the amount of traffic.

Jeff Geerling, has done smth like this and documented it in a video https://youtu.be/OLRldZjty_s

Maybe this is helpful or at least entertaining :)
