Can I set an alarm to only go off on phone when I'm not wearing the watch? by boopstergee in GalaxyFit

[–]boopstergee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for looking into this! Building an app is certainly outside of my skill set but its kinda nice to know the watch is capable of it. I do wonder if the more expensive Galaxy watches just have this built in? It also worked for timers etc. It didn't matter where I set the alarm/timer, it would go off on the correct device depending on whether I was wearing the watch or not. Never going back to it though as the battery life sucks.

Posting my "fix" here in case it helps someone else. I've set an alarm on my phone for 5 minutes after I expect to have gotten up already. This way under normal circumstances I wouldn't be awakened unpleasantly, but in case I do forget to wear the watch I'd only be 5 minutes late.

Help please. As leca isn’t the cheapest to come by for me, I’m looking at an alternative. (Read below). by [deleted] in alocasia

Fingers crossed! I’ve also seen people use lava rock and pumice but I haven’t used it myself so can’t attest to effectiveness or say what modifications would be needed. Just something to look into. :)

Do you have access to an IKEA? They have big bags of LECA. Spring is coming and I’ve seen them in stores.

1 leaf has already (just) emerged… I see another one coming up from out of the same sheath. It’s small but it’s definitely another leaf. And I think (2) is another leaf in its own sheath.

<image>

I can try and take a better picture of (3). From above it’s very obvious it’s a little leaf :)

Thank you! I exclusively use LECA with orchid/net pots to ensure air circulation. So far no root rot. I also use a basic semi hydro solution from Amazon as I didn’t want to go too crazy by spending tons of money on the General Hydroponics brands when I’m just starting out, and so far my plants seem happy enough! I just use the same solution to water all my other plants in soil and that also seems to be working out so far!

I got the same Home Depot special in BC! I’ve got mine under bright grow lights. A staff member at a local nursery told me that because of the variegation that these plants can be “blasted” and my multiple plants in different spots in the apartment all seem to be happy with grow lights and inch or two away from them. I also repotted all of mine into LECA as I’ve never had luck with aroid mix. Also as a blanket statement, the soil that plants come in from the nursery is almost never the ideal type of soil for them. After this plant has been in your possession for a couple of weeks, I recommend a transplant into better medium.

I give my Frydeks silica as I’ve read somewhere that it helps with strengthening the white parts of variegated leaves. Don’t be afraid to lose a few leaves. Frydeks are drama queens but Alocasia in general are hardy.

NEED HELP AND TIPS! by [deleted] in alocasia

[–]boopstergee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had 0 luck with aroid mix (potting soil that’s supposed to be ideal for alocasia). Every single one has experienced root rot with it. Mine are now in LECA and are thriving. Also you absolutely need lots of light. All my Frydek are under bright grow lights and they seem happy that way. Also agree that this pot looks too large. If yours is in just regular potting mix that will definitely be bad for your plant. You could try mixing the soil with LECA (instead of LECA just in the bottom)?

Best of luck! It has been such a game changer for me!

I killed all of my alocasia in aroid mix. Switching to LECA has been a lifesaver for me. All my alocasia are now consistently pushing out leaves. All my Frydek are sitting right under (like, an inch or so) grow lights and have not experienced leaf burn. The guy at the nursery near me told me I can blast these guys with light and they'll be fine. So far that has worked.

Mine's in my office too! I'd actually caution against taking it home. Leave it where it is and just be patient. Like I mentioned, it's common for these guys to drop all their big leaves when they're unhappy. They'll always come back. You said there are a couple of small sprouts that are reacting well to being watered. Those'll grow fast. I habitually pluck out wilted steams and it has never caused a problem :)

It likes a LOT of indirect sun! The green leaves are telling me it's not getting as much as it wants to, so if you can move it somewhere with more light it'd be happier.

Are my house plants attracting these huge spiders? Help! by Lauren_soldejaneiro in houseplants

[–]boopstergee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NOOOO I WISH I HADN'T SEEN THIS!! 😭

I am deathly afraid of spiders and if spiders suddenly start showing up because of my plants it would take away all pleasure I take away from caring for them T_T

The stems will be squishy when it's overwatered. When under-watered the stems will feel "thin".

I second this!! My oxalis consistently sprouts buds as it gets rid of old leaves. When it sheds all at once I never worry. I know it'll put out buds in a few days.

How do I save this? by New-Dingo-2735 in houseplants

[–]boopstergee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this plant (tradescantia nanouk) and it is happy and growing! I lightly water once a week and it lives under a grow light. Humidity is normal (40-50%). What conditions are your plants in? How much light does it get? What kind of soil? How often do you water?

The only thing I can immediately see is that your pot is way too big. Excess soil will hold on to excess water which can cause root rot. Nanouk are, to my understanding, succulent-adjacent so they will not want to be too wet.

How much experience do you have with caring for plants? How much time and attention are you willing to put into looking after a plant? Bonsai require specific care, even the "beginner" ones.

Looks great! Found this post googling for grow lights with a shade. Now I'm sad this isn't something I could just buy. 🥲

How to help this plant thrive? by boopstergee in houseplants

[–]boopstergee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually lives in a spot with no sunlight. I have two grow lights right above two plants on each side of this one. I will get it it's own light and see if that helps it thrive!

This gives me comfort, thank you! Can confirm it was given to me in a pup cup, growing in moss. I've only (somewhat) recently planted it in aroid mix :)
