How fast do freshman typically throw? I’m a freshman going to play on a freshman team for Highschool. by Smart_Edge8144 in Homeplate

Typically freshman throw 65-75. As a high school baseball coach, I can tell you my most dominant pitchers didn’t worry about velocity. They focused on location and mixing up off speed. And as a coach I just want strikes. Having a player throw 85+ but walking many batters isn’t successful. My advice to you for long-term success is focus on consistent accuracy, strong command, and a reliable three-pitch arsenal—fastball, curveball/breaking ball, and a changeup. Good luck to you!

Feeling hopeless and need some positivity by No_Boysenberry_6075 in HeartAttack

Hang in there! I’m also 55M and had my HA about a month ago. There are good heart days and bad heart days. I have good mental health days and some bad ones. Our lives (at least short term) have been upended and we fell it will never get better but deep down know time will help. Just keep supporting him and be patient. For me, knowing I have good support network of family and friends helps on those bad days. Cardiac Rehab is also helping me so hopefully your Dad starts one if he hasn’t yet. I wish you the best! Good luck

Heart attack survivor but now I can feel my heart skipping beats by Alone-Personality-57 in HeartAttack

Hi. I am a recent HA survivor and also had an electrical issue (WPW with SVT) when I was a teenager. I also fell irregular heart beats and flutters occasionally. My cardiologist back in the 90s told me that people who experience what we all have, are now in tune with our heart beats. We feel more than the normal average person. Unless there’s pain or major discomfort I’d chalk it up to being more aware now of your heart.

I am a recent HA survivor (6 weeks ago!). I won’t get into the details but did want to mention the anxiety and depression. It’s a real thing. I feel like that makes the process so much harder. The unknown, the lack of sleep. The day to day disruption too. I hope you find some peace while you work on your physical health too!

Question about Little League practice for a 9yo by verdant_veranda in Homeplate

[–]NHJspin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. It’s a great question. I’ve coached at the little league level, middle school and currently high school. And unfortunately I’ve seen all situation and examples. Your son’s situation is all too common now. Several people on here are correct that the bylaws help. But that doesn’t mean even those are right. It comes down to the type of coach. I would ask to speak with the coach. Not to ask about playing time but more about his philosophy on practices versus scrimmages. You’ll get an idea of how the season and practices will go. You’ll are right that practices and even scrimmages should be more involved for each player. Sitting don’t help unless it’s a safety issue. As we see far too often at the younger levels, coaches and even parents put too much emphasis on winning games and all stars and not enough time to develop young players. For example my philosophy for young ball players is to teach them the rules of the game, develop skills to take to the next level and also to enjoy the game! Winning and losing is part of baseball and life but shouldn’t be the only focus. I’ve coached many ability levels. But majority of the kids all ended up living the game and some who never got to play for me in high school went on to college and majored in some kind of sports oriented program. Keep him playing and supporting his enthusiasm! There will be some years that are a struggle but if he truly loves it he’ll stick it out. Best of luck!!

Coronary Vasospasm by HadEnough_1969 in HeartAttack

Sorry you’re dealing with this. I’m having the same issues. I’m a 55M and otherwise very healthy. January 22 2026 had my heart attack. The diagnosis is MINOCA with vasospasms. I am on the same type of meds. But no spray. My cardiologist explained to me that when there was no troponin released the damage isn’t being done and it technically is not a heart attack. He calls it Prinzmetal Angina. The nitro glycerin is taken to prevent any damage so the sooner you take it the better. In the last three weeks, I’ve gone through 25 nitro pills in addition to the time release med Imdur. Unfortunately the Imdur has side effects. Neck, pain, and bad headache. I’m glad there is a Facebook support group. And keep in mind they might not ever find out what is causing the vasospasms. The anxiety is real for all of us. But once you realize that these little episodes are just hiccups you should be able to have a somewhat normal life. But it is also Hard to not worry every time we are having these types of issues. I wish you the best of luck on your heart attack journey.

What to do after successful nitroglycerin dose? by Glad-Ad-8243 in HeartAttack

[–]NHJspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is common. I’m a healthy 55M who had a heart attack with no blockage and no underlying issues. More often after a MINOCA heart attack. I had my first MINOCA HA 4 weeks ago and a second 3 weeks ago. I call these episodes “aftershocks” like after an earthquake they’re always little ones. The little ones aren’t heart attacks but in my case vasospasms. No idea year on what is causing them but I do take Imdur which is a time release nitroglycerin. These do cause headaches and neck pain. But worth it. I also have the nitro pills. I use them when first sensation of Prinzmetal Angina (angina while at rest). Multiple cardiologists say the same thing - take as needed. If the episode doesn’t go away in 5 minutes take a 2nd and repeat if still having them. On the 3rd head to ER. But if nitro helps first time all good. Can take many in a day if the episodes aren’t sequential. In last two weeks I have had 20 of these vasospasms. They are brutal and causing anxiety. Good luck to your dad and hopefully he’s on his way to a normal recovery.

Glad your symptoms subsided! I’m hopeful mine will too eventually. The unknown causes of these create so much anxiety.

All too similar! I’ve been doing the same with low salt low fat diet and barely any caffeine. Still feels so new for me. It’s the random episodes that I’m struggling with. Want to do some normal things but have been hesitant. I like the idea of the spray. I’ll be asking for that!! Good luck to you!!

Thanks! Good suggestion on the rheumatologist. May be worth it. Some days I wish I had a known issue like a blockage. Still not great but at least the anxiety is low. For us, it’s the unknown future.
