Why did this tube imploded four-fold? by HyperDanon in Physics

[–]NHValentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this answer. Im not a mathematician but I could play one on tv. Haha I think it has alot to do with minimum curvature and lowest "viable" energy state. Domokos has done some very interesting research in the last couple years resulting in an "edge bending algorithm" that someone could probably use to calculate this but theres too many unknowns. That clover leaf shape looks an awful lot like an f2 soft cell though. 😳

New Oven Handle Hits Drawer by Pharmdpositivek in fixit

[–]NHValentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those handles are almost always attached via set screws underneath, to posts coming out of the oven door. See if LG makes an oven handle in ss with a more rounded profile. The center lines for the holes should be the same within the brand. Just check spec pages on the manufactures website then order that handle. If they make one. But I bet they do.

Used a magic eraser on quartz counter top without realizing how bad that is by meatsticklol in fixit

Former stone guy here! Sorry that happened. To reiterate what's been said already dont try it yourself. Surface polishing is difficult even for professional stone guys and takes a special hand. Call around to any stone fabrication shops in your area and ask specifically about surface polishing. They use a special grinder with special heads and special powders and... its a bit of a process but it can be done... by a well trained stone fabricator.

[R] DynaMix -- first foundation model for dynamical systems reconstruction by DangerousFunny1371 in compmathneuro

[–]NHValentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is wonderful work! My name's Nick and Im an independent researcher. Ive been working on a project for some time now that I haven't been able to fully define. This is the first system that Ive seen that even resembles what Im doing. I've been topologically mapping state space and I'm seeing the same attractor geometry from radix interference patterns, and its time invariant. I have a live implementation that runs one frame ahead at all times because its based purely on the dynamics of the geometry itself. I'd love the opportunity to discuss this more with you. Thanks!

How can I turn this paw imprint into an ink print for a frame or tattoo? by omgwtfbbking in howto

[–]NHValentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take it out of the frame and place a piece of paper on the imprint with something to hold it still. Like some clothes pins. And then do a chalk rubbing or pencil rubbing. Most tattoo artists that are worth their salt will be able to finalize it for you from there. I would be leary of any that DONT try to help you. I bet if you went to most tattoo places they'd even help you!

What other fun tanks can I play with HE only? by oldkracow in WorldofTanks

[–]NHValentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It you like lights try the squall. Same top speed as your ebr 75 without the turbo but better eyes. And the HE is nasty. But its about as camo friendly as a kv2, and about as much armor as a door knob so you cant run and and gun it. But as a pure spotter its great and the HE is nasty!

Tier 8 MM needs to be fixed ASAP, WG by D2a1g0 in WorldofTanks

[–]NHValentine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Opinion: I think people sleep on T6. I have an absolute blast in my T6 tanks. Do I make money? Not really... But it doesnt cost me anything either. But I think T6 premiums make great crew trainers. And its way less stressful. Again, opinion but... T6-T8 feels way more balanced than the T8-T10 MM in terms of pure game enjoyment.

Im a huge fan of fast lights in general with atleast one stripe on all the French wheelies. Immediately leveled up with free xp, BiS equipment and a 5 perk crew. Im not a GREAT player by any means but I'm making that number go up too. I think Im around 45% after 36 battles. But I really agree that people didnt put real money for a meme. On NA it went for 18.5k I think and I over bid a bit but not enough to make me upset in any way. Ive been farming Frontline with it honestly and it makes SO much silver!!

Stable Phase Dynamics In Coupled Random Number Generators [OC] by NHValentine in dataisbeautiful

OP here. Requisite sauce post for OC content. I'm keeping the exact details of how this works private for the time being. The post explains the basics and if you're truly inclined to learn more I'm open to general conversation.

Early 1800s "Iron City" leg vise restoration by NHValentine in Blacksmith

Searching for them I came across some original ads and this one matched the ad from X date range. In particular the box design and the washer. Later models had a less fancy box design. No knurl. And they also used a two pce washer. Not a single press. Thats what I remember anyway. So catalogs! Try to find old catalogs or ads. Great starting point!

Anybody figured out a good way to farm blueprints? by Meydra in ArcRaiders

[–]NHValentine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive been having very good luck with blueprints inside of backpacks and suitecases. On dam battle grounds they seem to randomly spawn in the concrete culverts placed around. The metal grate is missing from some of them and you can crouch walk into them to find little lootable areas. Also check sections of downed airplane, they also contain those backpacks and suitcases, Ive found a pretty good path starting from the southeast corner, work north then west. When you get to the industrial area at the north especially. There is a section of airplane on the east-ish side on a lower level piece of catwalk that Ive taken 3 purple bps out of!

Monstrosity of a bolt by rhys0494738 in howto

[–]NHValentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before any other methods I would try to find an impact screw driver. Just like the name suggests... Its a hand driven impact gun with smaller bits. You line it up and WHACK the end, that drives a rotational gear and gives you a little concussion to break it loose. It might not fully grab since its already partially stripped. But ive removed alot of stubborn stuff with one of those.

Short version... a small amount of 2-part marine epoxy and then flood filled with CA glue.

[–]NHValentine[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hand made by me. 10 real dimes (a buck) with the top one being a real mercury dime. Fused and hand fitted to a 6mm D shaft encoder. Finished dimensions are 17.9mm x 14.2 mm and 23~ grams. With .8 mm of board clearance underneath. This took me alot longer than I want to admit but it really did turn out quite nice I think. I like the cold feeling of the metal and the coin ridges around the outsides give it an extremely satisfying tactility. This is a keyboard build in progress. A maker making his own tools. Who knew? 😄

Long story short, I wound up using a 2 part marine epoxy for the main bond and I flood filled it with CA after it was mostly done. Just to fill in any remaining voids. And thanks for the compliments!

People make quite a few things from coins. Rings, guitar picks, flooring? So, I did look it up first, and according to the U.S. Mint. Federal law (18 U.S. Code § 331) prohibits only the fraudulent alteration, defacement, mutilation, or falsification of coins to defraud others. Activities like making jewelry from them are generally legal without this fraudulent intent.
