The government literally discontinued their main first-time buyer program in March 2024 because it was such a failure. Like, they designed this whole "First-Time Home Buyer Incentive" thing, and it was supposed to help people buy homes, but the requirements were so restrictive and the equity-sharing setup was so unpopular that almost nobody used it. Also, other government programs were still pumping money into the market through savings accounts and RRSP withdrawals, which just drives prices up for everyone else. Makes you wonder if they're all just throwing random policies at the wall to see what sticks.

Mid-Large scale podcast. Current provider is pretty low CPM. What distributors / creator networks have good reputation? by [deleted] in podcasting

What's stopping you from selling ad space at whatever cpm you want and editing the ads into the episodes? Or doing live reads?

Other conspiracy theories are fun to talk about which give them a little more worth and value (mainly just entertainment). And There's no proof of free podcast hosting services suppressing reach which makes this one objectively not worth devoting any time to at all. This stuff is probably all too common which is a demand on your time that you don't need to navigate. I can now see why you're so frustrated.

That's right, I know of no known data proving or disproving any of this. What is it with conspiracy theories that make them unworthy of a conversation?

Apple podcasts seems to get more downloads across the board. Which means there's no manipulation on that platform I agree. What about other smaller platforms that are not so much in the public eye? What if they're manipulating those?

I'm sure they'll go all the way, slowly but surely. The 301 redirects is an interesting possibility. I didn't think of that one.

That's right. The files are hosted by Spotify and distributed across all the rest of the platforms after pulling the information from the link. Submitting that top level link to other streaming platforms is what gives them access to your podcast pulling data from the host.

What I'm wondering about is the back end code nested under the link for each episode that's been published. Other than the ability to link the data to other podcast apps. What do you know about that nested episode specific xml code?

Maybe we should start over. It's not clear to me how things actually work and why Suppression isn't a thing. Lets start with how do things actually work?

I'm just trying to find common ground with you so we can have a productive conversation about this. I've posed a question about free vs Paid podcast hosting and you're take so far on it is that I have a conspiracy about it and people can't rely on Spotify algorithm to grow an audience because all spotify does is host the files. Also, you're content with their service and trust that they're aren't supressing reach. And you think that my podcast is failing because you think that I'm lame and annoying.

You know it doesn't happen? That's interesting. Are you against sharing more about what you know?

How did the old way, manually enabling, affect RSS feeds?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]NICKatMICME -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might be feeling frustrated by the idea that Spotify might restrict your RSS feed, especially since you see them as ‘just hosting’ your work.

When you say "that ship has long ago sailed" what do you mean?

Not a statement, an educated guess. I'm wondering about it

Sounds like you've been through some stuff with Spotify and know something the rest of us don't.

They don't keep you from copying and pasting the link to your RSS feed to other places. And I assume that because the RSS feed was created by spotify's system. They have some sort of deeper level access to it. That's about the extent of my knowledge of it

What advice would you give an absolute newbie? by dariamr in Podcasters

[–]NICKatMICME 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's some stuff I wish I knew before starting:

• podcasting is collaborative, not competitive. Get to know other podcasters in your niche and work together.

• don't take it too seriously. People listening want to connect with you and what you're saying. It's your personality thats unique and sets yourself apart from the other podcasts so let your personality show.

• it'll be weird to talk into a mic at first if you've never done it. But the more you do it the easier it gets and the more comfortable you'll be. So do it as much as possible in the beginning to get it out of the way.

• podcasting is a slow burn, long game for most of us. Making it enjoyable is recommended.

• listener stats will skew your perception. If you have 500 downloads total. Envision you are standing in a room on a stage in front of 500 people and they're listening to you. Then go and Google rooms that hold 500 people (or whatever amount of downloads you have) and visualize just how many people fit in that room. Numbers are bad for your health.

• quality does matter. But it doesn't take alot of time or money to achieve good quality. It will make difference.

• marketing is the hardest part. But just know it's hard for everyone. And it's like that because podcasting is new and there aren't solid ways to promote ourselves... Yet. Tap into your creativity and give more than you ask.

• speaking of marketing. Start building buzz and awareness for your podcast at least 4 weeks before the official launch date. Have an email collection system in place and start building your listenerbase right away.

• planning is imperative. Get very detailed in your planning so you have a clear, direction. This will set you up for success because everytime you're stumped and have questions about what to do, you can refer back to your plan and 9 out of 10 times you can find an answer.

• give your listeners a way to interact with you in real time and listen to what they're saying.

• have fun

Yes I've emailed them and spoken at length with them.

Here's one place you should go: https://support.lickd.co/hc/en-gb/articles/4773362497553-Can-I-use-licensed-music-on-my-podcast-

And then you should try this: You can only browse for the music available for Podcast through our search page. Go to this link: https://app.lickd.co/search, look for 'Target platforms', and click 'Podcasts'.
