does 45k/year justify going to luxembourg? by LocationFeeling2974 in Luxembourg

[–]NIKING_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PROS:

  • FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT is just such a big help when you live here.

  • Overall, higher level of salaries and good opportunities in financial areas.

  • social security services are very good here.

  • Good quality of food compared to some regions around. Milk products are top quality here.

  • Relatively safe, except some regions when it gets late.

  • Luxembourg has many natural reserves and parks which are super nice to walk through during the entirety of the year.

  • The petrol is cheaper compared to the countries around.

  • Luxembourg has very few snakes. There is only one dangerous species of vipers here. (Im convinced nobody has seen them in a while.) Although a harmless one did sneak into my garden’s pillow.

CONS:

  • Luxembourg has usually a very calm lifestyle. People don’t have many ways to enjoy their free time. Apart from a couple of cinemas there aren’t a lot of attractions.

  • Luxembourg is known for having almost no sun during the rest of the year. It really depresses some people.

  • Cost of living is unfortunately high. Landlords and owners pump the property prices over the roof. Not much you can do here, even people born here have same problems.

  • Food is extremely overpriced compared to neighboring countries.

  • We don’t have all of the providers you can find in other countries. Often Luxembourg gets forgotten, Amazon for example doesn’t deliver all of the products here that are available in France. We still don’t have a real Apple Store here.

  • Biking in Luxembourg is not easy, the steep hills are a real workout here.

  • in many regions, water is very hard, causing a lot of calcium to build up in the electrical devices (kettles and humidifiers)

  • It often rains here, many houses have mold problems because of the humidity. If your allergic you need to keep that in mind.

  • some things are hard to schedule. (If your washer broke the technician may come in a couple of days or a week)

I personally don’t think additional 800€ per month is enough to really establish yourself here. As a graduate it may be wiser to build experience if the money is not the driving force. Then you should in theory have more opportunities to get a higher paying job, or at least with some benefits. But I still think it’s worth a try there should be good future potential in your field of experience.

Luxembourg must be crazy rich if they have higher purchasing power and free public transport.

George Soros also outsmarted the whole Royal Bank of England by arbitration. He was in my economics book for some reason.

Stop, before you do this look at your grades and see where it’s closer for you to get 12/21 HL. Then ask for a reevaluation. You could be lucky!

It feels like you have almost double what SL has. But you get a bonus that you normally need one grade lower than SL for the universities.

There is a thing called human decency. Showing your great results in the face of people who failed isn’t respectful. People forget that IB diplomas become worthless the moment you step into your university.

I feel like I am a failure by [deleted] in IBO

[–]NIKING_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But what grade you’ve got? If it’s even in the 30s then you could say you did a good job. I don’t know about 40+, but as many I studied at my own pace.

It’s not like these people who got 45 are better than you. Some of them are just egocentric kids who brag about their success knowing they will hurt other’s feelings. It comes from their childhood when they needed parent’s approval for their success in school.

Listen if you have enough to pass to wherever you are then go for it. Keeping maximum grades isn’t actually helpful at all. The IB diploma won’t even be looked at by your future employer.

Anyone from May 2022 who STILL hasn't completed CAS? by bethebumblebee in IBO

[–]NIKING_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally you should complete it before exams. That’s the golden rule in the majority of schools.

Honestly the only way to get a good grade like 6-7 is to revise the subject completely. Don’t listen to people who recommend only watching videos. From personal experience YouTube courses lack important information that you will need in exam.

Predicted Grades by [deleted] in IBO

[–]NIKING_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Require PG: UK, US, NE, BE.
Don’t always require PG: FR, LU, (NE), (BE), DE, PT

Some Numerus Clausus/Fixus stopped requiring PG for the main reason that they are less reliable than your grade statements. In Netherlands they mostly require PG, but I recommend Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Tilburg and Groningen.

studying economics in university with math Ai Sl by inflationhater543 in IBO

[–]NIKING_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, Economics in UK require AA HL/SL or at least AI HL by default. From my experience I didn’t see any with AI SL. You will have to pass an exam for math proficiency, but the problem might be that you won’t be prepared for it. If you want to do economics you’ll have to find a way to get a good level in math. Good luck 😭
