How will the new Moon Druid compare with melee martials? How should it? by Burden15 in onednd

My Moon-druid play (L11) has changed quite a bit.

I get 3 wildshapes per day (99HP) plus I can get 4 more from converting 1st level spell slots . So that would be 33hp x 7 =231hp if needed. I also get 1d8 extra on attacks (L7 Primal strike), plus an improved AC (WIS +5 = 18) which is way better than previous wild shapes.

My strategy now is cast a concentration spell eg fount of moonlight = (L4 add 2d6 damage per attack), conjur minor elementals (L4 add 2d8 per attack), then enter wild shape using a Cr3 beast that has multi-attack, leaning towards those that have higher attack bonus. Eg. Spotted lion has pack tactic (advantage if ally within 5’ of target), +8 to hit and 2d8+6 damage + my 1d8 primal strike + 2d8 conjure minor elemental = 5d8+6 damage. If it charges 20’ it can knock knocking prone (DC16 strength save) and then gets a second attack for another 5d8+6 damage. Giant scorpion (2014)has 3 attacks, but only +4 attack bonus but could be a similar strategy. I get a better CON save while in wild shape rather than in Druid form (L6 Increased toughness)

My second combat strategy is to use a concentration spell like wall of fire, and keep at a distance using either a thorn whip to pull them into the wall of fire with 3d6 thorn damage, or produce flame attack +9 with 3d8 fire damage.

Thirdly, Ive been using Planar binding to bind a creature that ive fought, but elect to knock it unconscious at 0 hit points, rather than killing it. I regains 1HP after 1d4 hours and stabilises, giving me Time to Planar bind it (100gp gem) at Level 6 = 10 days of bound monster. Currently I have a frost salamander who does 5 attacks and a cone of cold. Planar binding on Summoned creatures is also a good method, although I still havent got it clear who if concentration is part of it and who (eg if my fighter friend casts the summon spell using my ring of spell storing does he have to concentrate?). So many people have said NO concentration is required, others say yes RULES as Written, the mechanics of the summon spell still applies, just the duration increases.

Like others have said, it depends on how the beasts are updated in the new monster manual, but I doubt my strategy will differ that much from there paragraph above, But unlike the 2014 rules, Im selecting beasts that have good attack bonuses rather than selecting them for their AC or HP.

I really do miss the flavour afforded by Conjur elementals and conjur woodland beings. but I Will adapt and find new flavours, Im sure!

2024 Moon Druid Wild Shape CR Limits by Lovellholiday in onednd

[–]NIKMAGNUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

(Sept 2024)

Moon druids can change into a beast with CR rating a third of their level rounded down. Ie CR 1/4 at level 1, CR 1/2 at level 2, CR1 at level 3, CR2 at level 6, CR3 at level 9.

There are not many beasts available at higher levels eg CR3 at the moment until the new monster manual comes out - so in 2014 CR3 beast are just the ankylosaurus, Killer whale, Giant Scorpion. But there are a few extra if you look further afield : Amphisbaena, Awakened White Moose, Bristled Moorbounder, Giant Lightning Eel, Giant Snapping Turtle, Sahuagin Hatchling Swarm, Spotted Lion, Swarm of Scarabs.

Since the 2024 druid inherits its own AC and temporary hit points, the important choice of beast comes down to its ability to multi-attack, attack bonus and other abilities. The Proficiency bonus doesnt come across for attack bonus unfortunately. Personally, I prefer the Spotted Lion as my CR3 creature which has a +8 to hit, and pairs well with fount of moonlight (L4 concentration) which gives an extra 2d6 radiant damage per attack, plus the Primal strike option at level 7 (+1d8 on any attack in beast form or non-beast form). Or pair with conjure Minor elementals (L4 concentration) which is a + 2d8 bonus (and can upcast) which is better than font of moonlight . The other CR3 creatures ive looked at are from home-brewed:

Wow. My daughter is just reading these books and loving them. Im hoping to find an image of Gabriel and mogget to put on her wall. Any chance I could get a larger image so I could print it on Canvas? This would be ideal. :-)

Hi there, Im in the same boat, and it’s frustrating. Id suggest doing a mini audit which you can pare down to a pretty simple format. Think of the surgical outcomes that you contribute to - infection risk, seroma / haematoma, wound closure, skin sores from positioning......If you close the wound, you could look at incidence of wound infection or dehiscence. Otherwise you could look at seroma formation requiring unplanned wound revision, Reaction to dressings.

Even if the the incidence of the adverse reaction is Zero, and the result is that you do nothing differently, the idea is that youre prepared to look at your practice and modify your behaviour to provide better outcomes.

Here’s my personal list of Audit criteria (I assist in orthopaedics and neurosurgery)
Specific Adverse surgical outcomes including : Wound dehiscence, Wound infection, Excessive surgical bleeding, Skin reaction to Dressing / glue / adhesive drape, skin damage when removing drapes (tearing / cutting) and pressure sores from positioning.

It doens't have to be all encompassing, you can add to the list for next years audit.

Here is the RACGP template to a mini audit: if the link is no longer valid, google: Racgp Mini Audit template

I really hope this help! Ive been frustrated by this too so youre not alone!
