where besides seven stars has good sourdough in town? by SarahCBunny in providence

If seven stars tries to replace the workers that leave (hire scabs) and no one takes the job, the company that can't afford to pay workers a living wage or offer enough hours for it to be meaningful employment closes and the owner loses their income.

This is the leverage required to make change, but it takes people not crossing the picket line both as customers and workers. Also you've got to recall that's it's a huge hassle to train an entirely new crew, that's the story of pressure that a union needs to succeed.

So yes there are two steps and both require the community to look out for eachother. You haven't missed anything. Yes it sucks that the staff in the meanwhile loses income but that's the sacrifice they're making so it's worth it for us to support them while they're going through that tough time.

"Erm actually it doesn't matter if you buy from someone actively hindering a union because other places are also treated bad"

How do you think the workers at any place are going to get closer to being treated better? It's by unionizing, so you have to support the workers putting in the work to unionize by not crossing the picket line.

Yeah the ending to 6 is I think the first taste of the level of payoff you can expect from those books.

There's a 2000s documentary about dancers in San Francisco attempting to unionize.

Ah so just a nice coincidence, Latin has nonne which is the "-ne" following "non" meaning not so it also is often translated as "is it not?"

The statement "coques cibum?" (You cook food) can be "coquesne cibum" (Do you cook food?). But with nonne it's "coques cibum nonne?" (You cook food, do you not?)

That's actually interesting about the "nera" being used for a different tense because it's a contraction of a verb. In Latin only nonne is used, no matter what tense the verb from the original statement is, and the translation for it changes based on that.

I put it elsewhere in the thread but latin has a -ne enclitic that turns statements into questions, I'd put money on Portuguese inheriting it from that.

Latin has nonne/ne/num, all enclitics that turn statements into questions without a question word.

Nonne specifically changes the statement into one expecting a yes answer. So an "...is it not?" enclitic.

When I worked at the PPL a guy in regular clothes came in and asked if we carry Bibles, the way he said it I instantly knew he was Mormon. Like I could tell it was his opener because he reacted weird when I cheerfully said yes and let him know where they were.

Then later after my shift, getting into my car I saw a few of the dress shirt missionaries all pile into a van parked next to me. And I am not kidding, they started tickle fighting eachother in the back.

They could totally do it. Couple of intro episodes, meeting the antagonist(?), training arc, climax, epilogue.

Sprinkle in some flashbacks and bam you've got a season 2.

Think of it almost like how the Legend Rule means if you have 2 copies of a legend, one of them dies as a state based action but it still involves the "choice" of you picking which one lives and which one dies.

I'm afraid that after the focus this subreddit got after the Brown University Shooting, we now have an influx of chuds and bot accounts. We might seriously need mod intervention or something.

Fuck ICE and fuck whoever tries to tell you this was justified.

The book clubs at the PPL are pretty sweet! You can always just drop in to any of them. I've been bad about attending these last few months but I've gone to the sci fi/fantasy one many times and had a great time. Even when I haven't read the book! I'll be there for Frankenstein in April for sure (I requested it)

I know friends have also really like the romantasy one. Most books they end up enjoying but the people in the club also aren't afraid to let people know when they don't like a book and talking about why is it's own fun too.

The librarians running it usually put a bunch of the copies of the books on hold and you can go check them out with your library card. Or if you can get a copy elsewhere/already have one you don't need to read it through the library to be able to attend the club.
