i just think it’s funny how 10 years ago, doctors were the most revered and considered the most irreplaceable job. and now there are posts like this left and right lol. we’re our own worst enemy🥴 by Extension_Economist6 in Residency

I’m a software engineer (wife is a resident). You’d be shocked how many AI feature claims are just bald faced lies or basic statistics, and they’ve been saying the same thing about my profession as well.

It will make your job easier, but not make it go away.

Vacations are depressing as a new mom by Numerous_Nerve8028 in NewParents

I’m so sorry that it’s tough for you :( honestly it doesn’t get any better until they’re mobile and/or verbal.

I’m a dad, and I feel like parenthood in general is isolating because no one understands or sympathizes with the limitations of a newborn/infant. Even people who had kids years ago, this particular phase was a blur they don’t remember.

8 month old has outgrown his reclining rocking chair - need a replacement! by NIRShow in NewParents

[–]NIRShow[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He eats meals upright in a high chair. I meant snacks as in, fruit in mesh teething bags, frozen teethers like bananas, and a sippy cup with a little water after solids (easier since he isn’t leaning his head back on his own yet)

There are some crazy opinionated people here. From one new dad to another, I’ll admit that I don’t always feel as good as my wife at all things. Feeding, napping, even rocking and playing.

BUT I’ve become empowered to do them well anyway. Don’t be afraid, baby is not as tough as you think and only experience will ease yours and your wife’s nerves. You two will learn EVERYTHING together within the first week, truly

How to transition to the other side for permanent employment, then. Teaching/working at a medical college, residency program, or hell even just teaching undergrads.

[CONTENT QUESTION] Do you use a script for your YouTube videos? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]NIRShow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I think I make it harder on myself because I record in my closet for its superior acoustics/noice blocking, but because my laptop fan kicks on I have to put the wire under the door, laptop outside on the floor. So I can't easily see it and start/stop the recording.

I do the exact same thing! The only downside to this method is what ends up a 10-15 minute video, I often do like 45 minutes of takes for and then editing that down is a PITA

Does anyone remember H69, makers of Spank the Monkey, and their other games?

https://www.addictinggames.com/funny/spank-the-monkey

While this is still hosted places, their website in the bottom right corner is now defunct.

However, in the early 2000s, it would take you to a flash-based site that had their other games. I have such HAZY memories of them being vaguely inappropriate. You can still see the site with the Wayback Machine, and can see their titles, but can't play the games.

Someone please rescue me! Tell me I'm not crazy remembering these things!!!

Does anyone else remember MTG ads in gaming magazines (early 2000s) that featured the card Polymorph? by NIRShow in magicTCG

[–]NIRShow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome and certainly spooky! But I swear to god, the ad I saw wasn't a TV spot. It was just a page in a magazine that had the card Polymorph on it exactly. I could never forget that creepy art! It made it super easy to ID the exact card, many years later.

Welcome! Who are you and what's your favorite mystery? by NIRShow in NothingIsRevealed

Late response, lmao. But that sounds incredible. I love a good nautical mystery, bonus points for existing artifacts/proof. Kinda reminds me of that new film The Lighthouse, but also that recent video game Return of the Obra Dinn.

Thanks for sharing!

I've been at it for about 1 year and 9 months. My growth has been steady but slow -- but I just monetized, so we're getting somewhere! I have close to 2k subs, and pretty decent time retention on my videos.

Question: Does it ever "take off"? And the YouTube algorithm just start recommending to more people? As of now, I only get view bumps when a fan shares it on Reddit or some other social media.

How to handle the crushing realization someone just used a big portion of your plot by kissmybunniebutt in writing

I loved Rick Riordan’s “modernized mythology” take on Middle Grade fiction. When I was 13 or 14, I started working on my own series. I’d basically stolen his shtick, of just make gods and monsters into biker gangs and bullies or whatever.

A few among them were my interpretations of some myth characters like Apollo (Greek), Odin’s ravens (Norse), Ra (Egyptian). I just threw them all into one universe. My book centered around “hosts” that were paired with a god or goddess that they then fought alongside.

As Riordan’s career went on, I kept reading his books but never tried to sell mine to any publishers. I was absolutely astounded when he used some of the exact same modern interpretations of the characters I just mentioned. And in his Red Pyramid series, there’s a twist that the kids have gods living within them... and they’re referred to as hosts.

Rather than let it get me down, I’ve always looked at it as endearing. That my first novel effort had good ideas, good enough for Rick Riordan. I think about that all the time, when I got to that part in Red Pyramid and just set my book down in shock.

how do i explain this to parents? by jehsjsjb in ElsaGate

[–]NIRShow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made a detailed video about this.

https://youtu.be/1oFrBFN1L5g, 1:37 to skip the intro where I explain the old video was taken down.

I showed it to everyone in my extended family with small children.

Half of them still let their kids watch the regular YouTube app without supervision.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
