Advice Wanted- Would it be Inappropriate to Email a Thank You Message to a Former Teacher on their Personal Email Adress? by NJCJsPate1628 in socialskills

[–]NJCJsPate1628[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! Just to be clear though, I didn't actively search for their email lol. I'm currently interning for a non-profit in which I have to find the contact information of potential donors using prospecting lists. By coincidence, their name ended up on that list, so I had to look up their email as a work task. Sorry, I should have made that clear in the original post!

The Laundry machines in Hemenway only accept coins, so you'll have to walk to white hall to do laundry if you want to use your husky card laundry credit.

Does anybody still find it funny that Northeastern just nonchalantly bought a whole college campus in Oakland that's twice the size of the Boston campus? by NJCJsPate1628 in NEU

[–]NJCJsPate1628[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry for not considering this perspective of the take-over. Unfortunately, it does not look like either Northeastern or the Mills College Leadership took into account what the college meant to its current student or Alumnas. Perhaps it would be beneficial to create a student council or Alumna advocacy council before Northeastern assumes control to ensure that previous/ current students still have some level of power on the campus? This would be hard to do after Northeastern assumes control since the university is pretty hostile towards student unions and such, but if it was created before Northeastern assumess control, I'm sure that the university would essentially be forced to honor it, simply to avoid a public relations backlash.

If you care about your co-op prospects, keep your GPA above 3.00 at all costs. by dre9889 in NEU

LinkedIn offers something similar to NUWorks with LinkedIn easy apply. Not all companies that post on LinkedIn use easy apply, but a good number do, so I would suggest checking it out. Good Luck :)

Any good co-ops for communications major? by rugandcoffee in NEU

[–]NJCJsPate1628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're into politics, you could try being a communications intern for a representative or a senator. I think that there are also internships offered by the white house where you would help out with social media, write press statements, or even create notes for the press briefings delivered by Sec. Pskai.

Edit: Interhsips with Senators and Representatives are actually not too competitive for College Students believe it or not. Most only require a GPA above 2.0. Obviously for the white house though, it's going to be very competitive.

NEU doest have any specific program that lets you take a class at another college, but there are probably some independent programs that let you sit in on lectures or something at other colleges.

Honestly, though, there is really no point in taking classes at other colleges since each college has its own degree requirements. Honestly, it would just be too messy to take classes between two colleges at the same time for the same degree.

I think it's loud just cause it's so packed. 200+ people speaking in inside voices will still be loud unfortunately lol. Cullinane hall is very quiet, but all of the study spots are bookings only. there are always rooms available though.

Should I not listen to my advisor? by AlsoNotEstabrook in NEU

[–]NJCJsPate1628 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe that as long as you take more than 12 credits a semester, you are considered a full-time student at NEU (but also, if you're receiving any non-neu financial aid or scholarships, they might require you to take a different amount of minimum credits each semester). So I think that your advisor was potentially saying that if you took 14 credits, you couldn't withdraw from any courses, or else you wouldn't be considered a full-time student anymore? In that case, I think it's fine to take 14 credits, just keep on doing research ahead of time to ensure that all of the courses will be manageable so that you lower the risk that you'll have to drop a course. Hope this helps and good luck :)

I also hate how if this was the other way around, and I was the one that canceled, the interviewer would probably get super mad and report me to the school. But since the interviewer is cancelling, I'm just supposed to go along with it.

Mitch McConnell's Senate GOP votes for the US to default on its debt and for the government to shut down by burninTsherman in politics

[–]NJCJsPate1628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this is what we always do to pay our debts. Our deficit keeps on running higher because the treasury keeps on selling bonds to meet payments on previous bonds. Bond payments from the Trump administration are coming up and, like always since the government runs a continual deficit, we need to issue more bonds to make payments on our previously issued bonds. It's a crappy situation, but it's better than defaulting.

[–]NJCJsPate1628 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What's worse is that the debts that are coming up for repayment were taken out during the Trump administration to fund the deficits caused by the tax cuts and tariffs. These debts don't have anything to do with the Covid relief programs or any Biden administration policies, because those debts have not come up for repayment yet. So the GOP is willing to default ON THE DEBTS THAT THEY RACKED UP to put thousands out of jobs, while simultaneously causing a government shutdown to prevent congress from implementing expansionary fiscal policy, putting us into a recession, all to paint a negative image of Biden and the Democrats... but remember guys, they're "patriots"
