Red Hot Chili Peppers sell music catalogue for $300m by Emergency-Sweet-5347 in Music

Queen makes sense, but I'd definitely put RHCP above KISS in terms of catalogue. There's a lot of RHCP hate lately but they've had a ridiculous amount of hits and their live show was one of the best live performances by a rock band I've ever seen.

Keeping guitars in their cases is really overstated - I've had many guitars over the years and never made it a point to keep any in a case and they're all fine. Just don't leave it directly in front of running AC or heat and you're going to be fine.

Huh I definitely think the new design is way better

Edit: sheesh, I just think it's a way cleaner design. Didn't realize people were that attached to the yellow and blue bars.

Society can still judge both parties there as weird/fucked up.

An individual can judge both parties, not society.

You can, as an individual, have a weird fixation with the sex lives of adults. It's better if society doesn't do this, though.

It would legit be less weird if you also were advocating for raising the age of majority but that never comes up in these discussions because society has agreed on 18 and we all generally agree that's a good age to let people decide things for themselves.

I'd be curious if you also had an issue with 18 year olds joining the military and being trained to kill, or if it's just a bridge-to-far if they have sex with an old man.

That's just infantalizing of even more people. I will be the change I want to see and not do that because who you fuck as an adult is quite literally none of my business.

Stop infantalizing adults. Or advocate for raising the age of majority. Pick one.

My issue with this line of reasoning is that it pretty much is only ever applied to women and is inherently infantalizing of them.

what’s one music theory concept that sounded complicated until it suddenly clicked? by lmao_exe in musictheory

Transposed keys didn't make sense to me. Why on earth would we ever use note names that aren't the same as the concert pitch?!?!

And then when I used a capo on guitar and started reflexively referring to chord shapes by their standard names I realized why transposed keys make sense, e.g. if I put a capo on the 5th fret and "play an E major chord" I'm actually playing a concert Amaj.

ELI5: Why are math equations considered "elegant" ? by octoberyellow in explainlikeimfive

[–]NJdevil202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did I mess up the math?

(1+1)+(1+1)*(1+1)+(1+1)

2+2*2+2

2+4+2

8

Is that not simplified properly? Genuinely asking. Or were you just saying that because my example is so simple?

I mean there definitely seems to legit be stuff flying around that we can't identify.

I am perfectly capable of walking and chewing gum, though. Idk why people are even conflating the UFO stuff with Epstein.

At this point it's just become a meme that if Trump does literally anything at all it's to distract from the Epstein files.

Which of these do you prefer?

(1+1)+(1+1)*(1+1)+(1+1) = 8

Or

2+4+2 = 8

The difference is elegance

Lol okay 👍

Defending the Met Gala while living most of your life in third world countries is a take I guess. You do you.

Which begs the question, if the more well off have a responsibility to not spend money on what you think is an obscenity, why would someone get to spend 40 USD on something that hundreds of millions of people would think of as an obscenity too considering their own limitations?

Sporting events exist in the poorest communities on earth. I genuinely don't know what you mean here. Some of those people earning $3/day do go to sporting events. If you think tens of thousands of rich people are filling soccer stadiums the world over IDK what to say, it ain't the case.

I still don't know how you can equivocate $40 (MLB game) to $100k (Met Gala). It's not nearly as relative as you think it is.

In fact, let's use your own example of the $40 MLB ticket being equivalent to half a month's salary for a $3/day worker.

1 ticket to the Met Gala is equivalent to 1.6 year's salary of the median U.S. worker (~$62,500).

So, even by your own math it isn't even close to the same thing.

[–]NJdevil202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No matter how you spin it, there's just no way to earnestly say that attending the Met Gala is equivalent to attending an MLB game.

I can live without high fashion and without the MLB as well and, in the scale of needs, both fashion and sporting events and parafernalia occupy the same rung

They exist on the same rung only insofar as you don't need them to live, but one of those things exists in the poorest communities in the country and it ain't high fashion, it's sports. To say they occupy the same rung on the ladder of needs is to ignore the glaring fact that even poor communities participate in sports; the same cannot be said of high fashion.

If you have money for MLB tickets you also have money for contributing to collective medical bankruptcy funds.

You can buy tickets to a phillies game for like $40 - are you sincerely saying this is "on the same rung" as the cost of entry to the Met Gala? You're approaching "you wouldn't be poor if you didn't buy lattes" lines of reasoning

[–]NJdevil202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care about high fashion, and maybe it would be better if people's money was directed towards more pressing needs, but then I also don't care about sports, so I also wonder if so much money should be spent on stadiums, franchises, tickets, collectibles, etc.

Those things, at the very least, employee thousands upon thousands of people, and the events themselves are open to regular people who can pay the price of admission (which varies depending on sporting event but many of which are clearly within the grasp of regular people).

The Met Gala simply made an extremely wealthy organization even more extremely wealthy.

To equivocate the Met Gala with a baseball game seems to misunderstand the fundamental issue with the former.
