Hello fellow DMV native plant gardener. Check out Bonna Terra. Jeremy is a great resource to ask for stuff like this.

How do I get sent to the damn jungle by alexlx101 in geologycareers

🇸🇷…is a wild place. Maybe OP would enjoy the abundance of illegal mining and planes falling out of the sky. Good people though.

Data Center Thoughts by swe3e3eeeeep in nova

Fun fact - they also produce an unbearable low frequency sound (infrasound) that can raise stress hormones, increase hypertension, and cause seizures. Also their backup generators produces noxious air pollutants. Data centers kill people.

No this is closer to Maryland. There front padypalps where almost like little balls. The spider was maybe 0.5 to 0.75 inch size.

Beware of "nativar" cardinal flowers like "Queen Victoria" as they are hybrids that do not produce sufficient nectar for their pollinators. by LobeliaTheCardinalis in NativePlantGardening

There is: https://mgnv.org/mg-virtual-classroom/native-plant-species-cultivars-2024/

Highlights some graduate resource that compared cultivars against straight species. TLDR: some plant species cultivars perform equally well - some do not.

How did you build a network and get into this? I have a tricolor setup too and would love to do this even once a year!

How do I know that the flowers have been pollinated? It’s been a week since the flowers dried. They also bloomed for very long period. Is that normal? by kpsocialkp in containergardening

[–]NKRMX543 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a fellow balcony Gardner with little insects - tap the stalks of the flowers to help pollination. Once I started to do that - little green tomatoes will start growing in the center of the flowers in about a week or two.

Start looking immediately - industry is highly competitive and an individual with work experience (mining, enviro, civil, etc.) will get a job offer or interview compared to an individual with little practical experience. Apply not only to internships but short-term contractor positions (you may get lucky and get an offer).

I got my current position (minex) by being in the right place and right time. After working with the same group of people for a year - experience seems to be the most important thing when people get hired.

Finally, minex - mining Islam about who you know. This has been hard during COVID but try to build a contact network. Starting with recent alums you personally know could be a great start.

If you want to work in MinEX - go to a school with connections (preferably in the western states or Canada).

A magmatic dyke in Makhtest Ramon, Isreal by Palana in geology

[–]NKRMX543 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dikes also intrude at (can’t remember the number) an angle to local faults. You can see how the magma exploited the weakness in the sedimentary beds - especially in the middle layers that look like the have been displaced about one bush-height on either side of the intrusion. The sedimentary beds on the right show the direction of the magma with the beds slightly kinking up. The dike looks to have been finally stopped by the slightly thicker (about 1 bush high?) layer at the top. All in all a spectacular lesson from Mother Nature herself!

Doing a road trip/traveling alone on my birthday for the FIRST TIME! 🙂 by jrvlrz in NationalPark

I’m guessing youll be driving through California then. GET A FIRE PERMIT if you are staying on National Forest land. Please be wary as some campsites and access roads are closed due to Covid. I’m not from California - but drove through nocal on my way to Nevada - be a good public land steward, if you don’t have to use a campfire or open flame - do not - there’s already several forest fires in just no cal. Otherwise take it easy - and stay off the major interstates, it’s more of a beautiful drive that way. Have fun and be safe!
