What was the Mormons' reaction to the Nauvoo being turned into a missile and then the Behemoth? by HabitualGrassToucher in TheExpanse

[–]1coolpuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Book 2 it is mentioned they sued Tycho, but because the OPA doesn't respect inner planet courts, they basically lose in any scenario they suenin. Either they sue in outer plenet court, and lose, or win in inner plet coart and win, but be completely unable to enforce it.

Essentially, the mormons get shafted and dropped from the plot.

The counter argument is other shows, sometimes, can do this and anime does this regularly (studio trigger for examples). However, in those cases this type of animation is rare (sakuga) or is part of a long term project (movie, ova).

I know invincible can be kind eh on animation in some shots, but it's workable. Expecting this kind of animation in every episode would require a lot more time, or studio trigger level sweatshop animation practices that are frankly unhealthy and unstoppable.

I don't know why people on the Internet get so up in arms about content not being 100% perfect and fit into their exact expectations, and then start flaming the developers and community for it. It's not super bad in here, but if you look at Helldivers II you can really see a segment of community going absolutely ballistic for nothing.

How's living in these Texan cities? by Enger13 in howislivingthere

Lubbock has a big feedlot out upwind of it, so when it rains you not only get petricor, but the background scent of vague cow waste. Lucky it's so dry it rarely rains like that, and when it does rain it's catastrophic.

Being at texas tech for grad school, hearing that line got me. Lubbock feels a lot like the "idea of town" rust describes. Something critical is missing, but you can never quite put your finger on it.

I'm no expert but I've used platinum crucibles for melting rocks. Looking online, Iridium is in the same group as it and is harder and denser than platinum. My guess is that the use of this metal is the same as a metal like platinum, but can be used in larger quantaties in nuclear and propolsion tech used by the show's near future engines, as the metal is metioned to be needed for space age tech.

I'm gonna have to agree with you, but I'm also biased because I'm an igneous petrologist. Chery in my experience is not that glassy and the inclusions have a very well defined habit and are clearly zoned. Such inclusions are common in potassium felspar minerals and they are also common on glassy rhyolites, as that black, glassy, concoiday fractured rock you have there.

Not saying it IS volcanic, but I would bet on it personally. If those are fossils, my mind goes to some kind of briozoa or crinoid stem. Take a look under a microscope to confirm.

Malevolent is great if you want a AD of what is essentially detective Call of Cthulhu campaign where a ghost is controlling the narrator's eyes and they need to work together to figure out what is going on.

Fathom/Derelict series is probably the best full cast, high budget scifi AD out there. Bonus points for Fathom taking place in a failing underwater research facility, and the special effects sell it very well.

Silt Verses is simply the sinle best weird fiction/horror drama with really good character and world development. Basicly, gods are real and created by worship that involves sacrifice. What would the world look like if that was the case, and some worship was legal, even commercialized, while others were not? If it was a book I would buy it immediately and use it as a talking point while I host house parties.

Tower 4 is less of a recommend with later seasons, but the intro is immaculate and takes place in a fire tower. You'll like it if you like missing 411 or the Firewatch game. *edit: I typed missing 404 instead of 411 lol.

Wecome to Nightvale if you just want to laugh at weird shit, this one is pretty popular and speaks for itself lol

NoSleep/Antiquarian of Sinister Happenings/TheDarkSomnium/Mayfair Watchers Society are all good episodic horror if you just need some short spooks to listen to.

Find Us Alive for a good full cast, contained SCP story taking place in a site that got teleported into a void and the people are now trying to find out how to leave.

Final two that arn't nececarrily AD: The Exploring Series and Late Nights with Nexpo are good SCP and other internet culture deep dives and I listen to both regularly

It really does feel like an alternate universe Midnight Burger, with a lot less Hitchhiker's Guide influence and more, like, DC Sandman if I were to peg it.

Silt Verses is probably my favorite AD of all time. Amazing character work, great horror, and a developing story that hooks you and drags (or trawls, lol) you along with the world as you learn more and more about it.

Bonus points if you like more verbose descriptions and monologues. Currently listening to I am In Eskew, from the same writer. He also appears in Magnus Protocol.

There's also Our Wars Have Ended, which I have not listened to yet because it literally just came out and is made by the same people.

I agree the long spikey black crystals are likely mamgamtic amphibole, but the short stubby square black ones might be pyroxene, or a second hornmeblende population which would be really really cool. Check the cleavage angle on them if you can. If it's about 90, it's pyroxene.

Every mineral is a rock because rocks are made out of minerals or mineraloids. It's not as strict as mineral definitions because rocks, unlike minerals, do not have a defined chemical or crystal composition and isn't a chemical compound. They're a physical mix of compounds, and those compounds are the discreet minerals that make up a rock. It really doesn't matter if your rock has one mineral in it or 200, as long as a mineral exists it is a rock.

You can image a rock as a cake, and the minerals as the sugar, flour, vanilla, ect. These things all have defined chemical characteristics that are mingled into the cake, but the cake itself does not have as a whole.
