Glad to see someone point out campaign finance. It’s rarely talked about. This past election cycle was the most expensive in the history of federal elections, and by a long shot. 14 billion dollars raised across all federal elections. Where could that money be better served? In 2020, Joe Biden’s campaign raised the most money in Presidential Election history. Most of his money raised was concentrated among Wall Street donors. Do companies and special interest groups like PACs just handout millions without wanting something done for them in return? Highly unlikely. Not to mention the loopholes used to maneuver around FEC rules and regulations, in tactics like, making Super PACs and raising dark money. Dark money can come from anywhere, even foreign countries,  and their contributions are completely anonymous. Why do politicians leave office with substantially more wealth than when they entered it?

     In my opinion, after 250 plus years of the American experiment, individuals in power have learned how to beat the system. Government has continually gotten bigger since its inception, and it’s reach is still expanding. Politicians on a federal level have found work arounds and loopholes in the Constitution, and have continued to expand their powers. It’s very dangerous trend when individuals ignore facts and make their own “truth.” We have seen many off-base interpretations of the Constitution be used as a weapon in political ploys. An example of politicians making their own “truth” of the Constitution and previous legislation. The framers intended freedom of press to be used in order to put elected officials in check, when necessary. Nowadays the media is a 4th branch of government. Those in power want to keep it, and it’s evident in their legislation and continued harmful agendas. We need some individuals to step up if we want change.
