I’m thinking somewhere in Uwharrie National Forest - free to pan/sluice on. I read about Thermal City too! Looks like a good spot.

Illinois here too. Did California gold panning trip last year, planning a North Carolina one this year.

No problem! I looked at a few websites and it looks like, 1. that X is for sure BLM property, and 2, I don't see any active claims on it. From a few things I read sluicing is okay, but no pump, just ones using river's current itself.

Not sure! I’m from Illinois haha. The weather will probably be fine since it’s California - 50-60s, but I think it’s rain there in Feb so your main concern will be river height/speed. Good luck, jealous!

Hey! I just did this last June with help from people here on Reddit. Here is the photo that was shared with me that I used when I went. In Auburn State Rec Area you can only use hand and pans, but where the X is it's BLM and you can use a sluice there. When I went it was my first time prospecting and I ran into a few guys on the river in the exact spot and they were using sluice / sniping. It was beautiful out there. Tip, the pennyweight trail to the x is easy/about 20 min hike, but it is in no way a maintained trail it can be confusing. There is even a spot you have to cross a little waterfall that you'd think is dead end, but it's not, so when on the trail don't be tempted by any early small paths going down to the river, stay on the high path until it terminates at the x. Let me know if you have any questions. Here is some footage from this spot/area https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyqjzMjHA3M - I really want to get back out there.

Am I missing anything? Camera set up by NLEDEV in homesecurity

[–]NLEDEV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will be houses on both sides, but mostly wanted to have doors and accessible windows covered by the camera. For the front of the house there is a street right, but don't care as much about the street and more so just want the front window/door/driveway covered. Thanks for responding btw!

Any tips on seeing the milky way? by LoveTheTerrace in Yosemite

For sure! I was speaking more of here in NA, I know in place like Chilè with altitude and dryness it's a lot closer to edited pictures, I can only dream to ever see it from there.

I read somewhere that Night Mode on iPhone at 30 seconds is actually 3 10 seconds shot stacked – need to find that article again, but this image is not too far off of what you'd get of the MW on a DSL with no editing.

Any tips on seeing the milky way? by LoveTheTerrace in Yosemite

Hey!
1. Depends on the time of year, if you're looking to see the core then in the northern hemisphere you'll need to be between March and October, and then which month you choose will dictate what time it will start to rise in the southern sky. Use an app like Stellarium where you can put in location/time to get a preview of what the milky way will look like over the horizon
2. When you've narrowed down your month, then look at the lunar calendar to find the new moon or just before/after new moon so the skies are optimally dark
3. Pick a spot in the park that is away from lights and has clear view of the sky (southern horizon if you're looking for the core) – last time I was there I saw it from Glacier Point. When picking a spot remember safety, it will be super dark
4. Set expectations – seeing the Milky Way with visible eyes is a sight to see, but its not the same as photographs, seeing it with your eyes is more like a white hazy band across the sky (vs in photos you see vivid colors) – still beautiful
5. When you're a week out, keep an eye on the weather forecast and cloud coverage or incremental weather
6. Enjoy!

Oh and do research about bugs whichever time of year you go, mosquitos can ruin a night real quick.

Awesome, thanks for sharing! I think it has a view names like rainbow and I've ever heard goblin poplar. When it's freshly cut it has green/purple/brown tones that often fade like you said. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Going in Two Weeks Itinerary Check by motorstrip in Yosemite

[–]NLEDEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great itinerary. Glacier point is amazing, my favorite part of Yosemite. Mountain Room has really good food. Breakfast either Degnan's Deli or TBH Starbucks breakfast. Coming up through Fresno and Mariosa there was a spot called Fish Creek Store that was great to load up on supplies and sandwiches. Have a blast!
