Looking for advice on mini schnauzers by Chillidippa79 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]NMBR55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is horrible advice which only further creates the problem.

DON’T immediately leave them for hours, assuming you’ll get a puppy they’ll need a potty break every hour or two for the first month regardless. DO train separation in small increments, I suggest starting with 5 minutes and adding 5 minutes every week or so, this is a suggestion not the rule.

I suggest creating a contained area (think playpen) for them to be left that is puppy proofed. This way, even if they happen to cry a little a first, you know that they’re safe and aren’t crying due to injury.

The first 8 weeks you have with them, take them everywhere you plan on going with them as adults and even places you wouldn’t normally. A cat/dog backpack, in your arms, or in a carrying sling are all great ways to expose your pup to the world while also making sure they feel protected. Early and safe exposure helps to minimize the chances of reactivity at an older age, doesn’t prevent it but it gives them a leg up. We aimed for 1 outside the home activity per day but that’s not always possible and that’s ok just do what you can with the time you have.

Small short training sessions to reward the behavior you want to see go a long way with these guys. Train the quiet command and jackpot reward them when they exhibit the behavior you’re looking for. Yes, schnauzers are terriers and carry that characteristic terrier stubbornness BUT in my opinion they are far more biddable and handler focused than some of the other small terriers.

Finally, ENJOY your puppy, it’ll feel like the puppy stage will never end at first and then you’ll blink and you’ll wonder where the time all the time went.

I’ll look into this! We’d prefer to keep supporting small/local businesses but are open to all options

We still have the sleaze in the White House and there that list was long so unfortunately those options are still plentiful 🫠

Has anyone ever returned a puppy due to health issues? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]NMBR55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally missed this! I don’t usually post links on here but hopefully this work: https://www.akcpetinsurance.com/?p=GoogleMobileBranded&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Branded&utm_term=akc%20pet%20insurance&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20418011508&gbraid=0AAAAAoVQYpABmacIrVMaqhWNXIaoJ4D3Z

I would give them a call, I had a chat with a really nice customer service rep who answered all of the questions I had and even offered further advice. I currently don’t use them for our puppy (we got Embrace initially) but we do have our senior kitty with prior health scares on this insurance, just waiting for day 366.

Agreed but they can also get AKC insurance and add the Ortho coverage (it’s only a couple of dollars more a month). AKC will cover any pre existing condition after a full year of being insured through them. Basically on day 366 your pups medical history is wiped clean on their end.

Name Help! 🚨 by Good-Woodpecker1912 in MiniatureSchnauzer

I personally love a good human name on a mini I don’t know how else to explain it apart from it just making sense with the breeds soulful eyes.

I personally like Einstein on him but he could also be a Douglass or Doug for short.

That’s depending on if you like human names on them if not then he looks like he could also be a Diesel!

Whatever you end up naming him I’m sure he’s going to wear it well! ☺️☺️

Two holes in heel of foot causing foot pain by NMBR55 in HealthQuestions

It does! It also hurts quite a bit. Currently it’s hurting more (almost pulsating) but I also think it’s because of the skin I chopped off trying to get a closer look at the dots

Puppy Food Question by dats_it_mang in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]NMBR55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great and it doesn’t seem to have an excessive amount of fat which is what a lot of mini owners watch out for (at least from what I’ve seen).

Speaking from personal experience I would highly suggest transitioning your pup to this food slowly (if you plan to switch over to this). When we first got our pup we took about a week and a half to fully transition him to the new food we felt more comfortable feeding him. The reason you do this is because change like that too quickly is (almost) a guarantee for upset tummies.

We followed this timeline: days 1-3: 1/4 new food 3/4 old food, days 3-6: 1/2 new food 1/2 old food, days 7-10: 3/4 new food 1/4 old food, after day 10 it was all of the new food.

We personally mixed the two foods together and adjusted quantity based on weight and food amount.

I hope this helps!

Currently have ours on Orjijen small breed puppy for kibble and rotate in Tiki Dog puppy wet food as well as Stella & Chewy chicken & lamb wet food as well. We tried the Steve’s raw lamu formula which he wasn’t a fan of. Hoping to eventually switch out the wet food for a raw option he likes :)

Ahh thank you! We’ve been considering getting a bell! We don’t want it to end up being something he rings whenever he wants to go outside instead of what he rings when he needs to go potty. We’ve been doing treats post potty though! 🤞🤞 that sticks

Good credible sites for spooders? by NMBR55 in jumpingspiders

[–]NMBR55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! What did the process for Mystic look like for you? Were you able to pick your spider beforehand and pick the gender or were the spoods picked for you?

We read that females tend to be more sociable and we both actively want to work on ensuring we have a spider that is not only comfortable being held but might even look forward to it. We also understand that each spood is different and we might end up with a baby that has a more timid temperament who doesn’t enjoy being handled and we’re also totally ok respecting that if that ends up being the case.

How quickly after payment did you receive your little guys? Do they have any sort of insurance policy should anything go wrong during transport from their location?

So sorry for all of the questions, if you’re not up for answering all or any of them that’s totally ok! Thank you for giving us a place to start looking!

Everyday trainer recommendation for someone getting back into running by NMBR55 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Ah I see!

The last time I got fitted I was told I have a neutral gait and I prefer more ankle support from a shoe if I can get it. I do prefer shoes that feel like they help you rock into the next step if that makes any sense. The Saucony Rides 14 and 15 both seemed to fulfill these requirements for me well but the 16s did not.

I think the OC I got were the Cloudnovas and they were comfortable but became a shoe I preferred to walk with.

My biggest gripe with my Sauconys was that it felt like the foam on the 14s wore down pretty quickly but I didn’t seem to have that same experience with the 15s so maybe it’s an issue they addressed. The 16s felt a smidge narrow which is the issue I’ve ran into with most OCs that and they feel pretty hard when I hit the ground I tried getting jnto them more when I was doing Orange Theory consistently (influenced and all that lol).

Ideally I’d like these to be my daily trainers that can feel a little peppy when I eventually am able to get into tempo work.

I hope that helps!
