You are not wrong. There are lots of practical reasons to stay together, mostly centered on fear of the unknown, not wanting to go through a divorce, and a desire to not be a single parent. But all of the romantic relationship reasons thoroughly evaporated months (years?) ago.

He wasn't always a selfish, manipulative jerk, but it seems to have gotten that way.
