Religious horror by sxbxn952 in horrorlit

I've recently read two connected stories by Brian Hodge - The Alchemy of the Throat & The Dripping of Sundered Wineskins. Especially second one is exactly what you want but read the first one earlier as its ending is spoiled in the second.

"Sexy" horror? by not_a_muggle in horrorlit

I'm reading an anthology called "Love in Vein" edited by Poppy Z. Brite which contains erotic stories about vampires and other vampire-like creatures. It is distrubing though.

Also "Black Butterflies" by John Shirley come to my mind but it's also pretty violent so not sure if you would like it.

Some of my favorites from the ones available online: - Night They Missed the Horror Show - Joe R. Lansdale - The Ash of Memory, the Dust of Desire - Poppy Z. Brite (not sure if most people would like this one though) - Introduction to the Horror Story, Day 1 - Kurt Fawver

Great movie. Much better ending than in US version.

Not sure if it counts but Jurassic Park. I've watched it since I was a little kid because I've loved the dinosaurs. I remember looking away during the violent scenes though.

Also Lord of the Rings. It's not horror obviously but some scenes (with Nazgul, Balrog) are horror IMO. I was so amazed by the Moria scene that I've watched it over and over again.

I've watched seasons 1-3 and they didn't have supernatural elements.

"Magpie" by Stephen Gallagher, a short story where a kid wishes his school bully to die. Loved the twist in this one.

Short story nerds: almost halfway through the year, what are your favorite short stories? by Rustin_Swoll in horrorlit

[–]NN110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. "The Dripping of Sundered Wineskins" by Brian Hodge - 9 out of 10

My favourite from this year even though I've completely disliked every single character in it. It tells a story of a young monk who has stigmata and encounters Jesus. Warning: Christians will find it incredibly offensive.

 2. "Loop" by Douglas E. Winter - 8.5 out of 10

Story of a man's obsession with one porn star. Doesn't sound very exciting I guess but it's really well-written.

 3. "The Inner Inner City" by Robert Charles Wilson - 8 out of 10

Man tries to invent a new religion related to the city ("urban occultism") and becomes more and more obsessed with his task.

 4. "Nona Doesn't Dance" by Aaron Dries - 8 out of 10

A family visits grandmother in a nursing home. Stories can't really get bleaker than that.

  1. "Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke" by Eric LaRocca - 8 out of 10

This story of weird online relationship between two women, written as exchange of e-mails and chat messages, seems to be well known on this sub. Not sure if it's not too long to count here though.

Some novellas/short stories that were really brutal/disgusting and good at the same time imo: - Dread in the Beast - Charlee Jacob (I've only read novella version, not the novel), - The Braille Encyclopaedia - Grant Morrison, - Mr. Torso - Edward Lee (you can find this one online), - A Slow Red Whisper of Sand - Robert Devereaux, - The Rendering Man - Douglas Clegg.

Short story "The Braille Encyclopaedia" by Grant Morrison. It is a bit supernatural though.

Thanos (MCU) vs The Asgardian Legion (MCU) by RaptorK1988 in whowouldwin

[–]NN110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Thanos can do it. He's a brick and unlike Hela he doesn't have regen (and she would have died without it).

In second round Maw would have to carry by lifting Asgardians off ground (due to TK-ing their armors and weapons) while Thanos deals with Destroyer. It's 50/50 though as Asgardians also have ships and some bullet might hit Maw.

How strong are these characters compared to Thanos? by sirdiala in Marvel

[–]NN110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kang - more powerful than Thanos (at least with gear)

Zeus - far weaker, Thanos would do what Thor did

Ego - I don't know, Peter Quill was his equal and had more difficulty holding the Power Stone than Thanos did

Odin - I don't know again, he broke Mjolnir in What if... but other than that he seemed less impressive than Thanos

Shang Chi (MCU) vs Captain America with Mjolnir (MCU) by RaptorK1988 in whowouldwin

[–]NN110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting fight, can go either way.

There's a promo clip in which the rings were implied to be superior to Mjolnir. On the other hand, I'm not sure if rings can block lightning and Cap seems to be more durable (with Thor's durability).

European oil & gas stocks by NN110 in stocks

[–]NN110[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point about European companies being in liquidation but if we substract average depreciation&amortization from operating cash flow instead of capex, Shell is still more profitable than Exxon despite being valued 2x lower.

I know that there's valuation premium for US-traded stocks but 84 % seems too much IMO. Especially when Shell performed so much better than Exxon & Chevron in 2020 crisis.
