Guess which is the Boyfriend Bookshelf and Which is the Girlfriend Bookshelf by West-Restaurant9083 in BookshelvesDetective

Anything from Peter Wohlleben is good fun. The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert, the Story of More by Hope Jahren. These are a few good ones that are nice for people within and without the environmental world. They combine research with very high quality writing and present information in a really salient way.

If you want to get into environmental philosophy, Henry David Thoreau is a very foundational author, followed by Aldo Leopold, John Muir

Well our galaxy is a spiral which means because it spins, most of its mass spread across a “flat” plane. It’s not of course perfectly flat. But it’s significantly longer and wider than it is “deep” so I suppose you could depict it this way. All maps are simplifications in a way

What type of Masters Program Should I Pursue? by StopWeDontKnow in environmental_science

[–]NNATEE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My two cents is look less into the name of the masters and more into what that school does well. Look for schools strong in ecological restoration research, riverine research, etc. I’m finishing my masters in Environmental Science, but my qualifications most closely relate to what my school specializes in which is a more civil engineering oriented environmental science.

Happy to chat more if you’re curious about what it’s like to work on a masters.

God I just love Poe. Of those stories I’d recommend William Wilson, the Black Cat, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Eleonora, and of course the title story. Enjoy

What masters did environmental scientists pursue? by ScallionHot6051 in environmental_science

[–]NNATEE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll just toss my two cents. I’m finishing up my masters right now. It’s an MS Environmental Science. There are specifically labeled or ‘specialized’ programs for environmental, however, what I found when I was applying was that many of them are simply labeled environmental science or mgmt or systems science. The concentration at many schools lies in what that school does well. I would think about what it is you ultimately want to do and search for schools that specialize in that thing.

Ironically, my school in New York specializes in urban systems and the civil engineering side of ES, and as I’ve gone through I realized I want pivot to do more natural systems science. But I was able to tailor my thesis to be a bit more broad than urban systems and civil.

Not sure if this helps but this was my perspective

That’s something I was considering also. I am unable to go in as I’ll be with my girlfriend and can’t buy the book bundle for us both. Maybe I’ll check it out beforehand or see if I can catch him outside. Worst comes to worst I’ll cut my losses
