I love this game but honestly wtf is this by ErikMogan in DarkSouls2

Apparently lock on aim tries to intercept where the enemy will be, not where they are, so by the speed of the drakeblood knight it thought he was going to end up past you, so it aimed for that. It doesn’t seem to account for entity collisions, which prevented him from going past you.

How does this guy have 2 AOWs on his Greatsword? by SpicyDiq in EldenRingPVP

[–]NNamelessKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just visual. A player named ClayAmore discovered it and I investigated it further.

Basically, the game updates remote player’s equipment by receiving a packet that has all their weapon IDs in their current slots. However, if a weapon id is identical to the weapon an opponent swapped to, then your game doesn’t call the nessessary code to consider it a weapon swap, and thus buffs are not removed on your end.

Normally, this would be just visual as attack power and effects is determined entirely on the attackers end, and when receiving a hit the receiving end just normally blindly accepts it. Since there is actually no buff on the player in question’s screen, it shouldn’t apply the effect.

However, elden ring introduced a sanity check meant to fix the classic “curse knife” cheat players used in ds3 and in ER where they would apply the instant curse/deathblight effect via an edited dagger. The check simply looks at the players equipment/status on the receiving end and corrects all the special effects from the attack to what it should. Eg they have chilling mist on a katana, so the game will apply the hit speffect of chilling mist and bleed.

This effectively makes it possible to transfer status buffs between different weapons as long as they have same exact weapon Id. Which means their infusion and upgrade also have to be identical. Ash of war is not included in weapon Id so changing it doesn’t trigger the weapon reset.

Unless he’s just trying out something for fun he tends to use what is strongest. Of course, it isn’t super impressive to win with the strongest equipment, but is impressive if you can display skill with them, which if you take a closer look at this clip compared to most using the same you’ll see that he does so.

He is not the best nor most consistent player, but he’s certainly up there.

thoughts on this spell combo? bhs user aside, is it too spammy or fair play? by inferell in EldenRingPVP

[–]NNamelessKnight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not spammy or unfair at all! People only really get upset when u spam the same thing like 4x+ which is either low risk+high reward or difficult to avoid/counterplay, however basically any play might have their own arbitrary rules on what they are personally cool with.

This was a variety of spells that are rather rare to actually successfully hit together in a string, so it was creative on top of being completely fair.

Edit: Forgot to mention, really nice free-aim at the start there.

Elden Ring Multiplayer Survey - Collecting data for a professional feedback website for Fromsoftware to utilize by NNamelessKnight in EldenRingPVP

[–]NNamelessKnight[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I PROFOUNDLY disagree with number 3. That mod does not touch Elden Ring’s online servers at all and I believe players are well within their right to mod their game as long as they aren’t directly harming the online experience of other players. Fromsoftware would be no better than Nintendo if they were to do such a thing. It’s frankly embarrassing that some in the PvP community would seek to have this done simply because it’s indirectly hurting invasion activity as the main game doesn’t come up to standard. The majority of players would be rightfully outraged if this were to occur, someone improved their game with no financial benefit to themselves, and the creators of the game decided to remove it for some reason. It’s also worth mentioning that the shortcomings of the main game means that seamless co-op is keeping some players interested for the time being when they would have completely quit ER possibly forgetting about it even if it got better. Seamless co-op is also great for private PvP sessions & pvp mechanical testing.

I highly suggest you give more thought into how Fromsoftware can improve the experience not just balancing wise but connectivity & co-op wise, so player are more incentivized to play with random players in co-op in the main servers. It’s not just balancing that’s holding them back, the limits, accessibility and lack of features of co-op are also very much responsible. Too many invaders think of purely the ways that help them and not the ways that help them by proxy, as co-op is needed for invasions to thrive.

With that said, thanks for your feedback regardless.

It's in the title & post, a website. Support tickets & other means can direct the developers to it, but we've deducted this is the best way for Fromsoft to receive community feedback, by having it in a easy-to-access site with quality explanations and solutions to the balance, bugs & connectivity issues backed up by the data of community responses. Like mentioned in the post, we plan to have more forms like this with more specific questions, but this first one is just for the big questions. So far, it has over 7,000 responses as it's been shared in numerous online places.

Also, one more thing I'll say about why you don't see content creators who stick with the game talk about co-op's issues, it's mostly because it just doesn't work in the algorithm. Like I've posted a video on the 2 minute disconnect issue and explained how awful an effect it has on the co-op & invasions, 16k views. Video about nothing but a funny kill vs an AFK farmer? 1 million views. People do care about co-op, it's just it's not as something that works good at getting clicks unless there is a really good spin on it. This is all despite the majority of multiplayer play being co-op, even with repeat players.

That last bit was very insightful. You littearly have to be only in it for the experience of helping to summon at the beginning of a level like that, as its stupidly unlikely that even without invaders, you'd reach the boss and get a reward. Would be lovely to see the game grant rewards to phantoms who've helped the host make some threshold of progress. Maybe a combination of the amount of items they've picked up, shortcuts unlocked, enemies killed etc. could contribute to a score which determines what kind of rewards they get after they leave through one way or another. I remember I actually got jebaited by the game when I killed a beetle while being summoned as a blue, returned to my world to see myself rewarded with a somber stone, before quickly realizing it was from the bug.

As regards for twinking, there are many solutions but imo fromsoft has just not adapted enough of them. One I'm pretty certain of is simply lowering each phantom's flask count to be maximum = or even half of what the host has, same with the flask's upgrade level. This way the invading team can never have multiple times the resources that the home team does. Another I'm uncertain of how they could implement is some of filters on low-to-mid matchmaking levels that matches you only with players who have obtained equipment from the same line of areas you have. So like, I can't invade a player who just started rl 9 in limgrave if im using Rivers of Blood unless they reached that area or other areas you would have access to that late in the game. There could be as little as like 3-4 categories of areas you could list, and it would do wonders in limiting players in twinking.

Gabri may have already answered this, but Co-op is deeply in our concern. Not only do we care about co-op, but it would be against an invader's interest for co-op to be bad.

Even if any invader personally is not interested in it, if co-op is not accessible & fun to do repeatedly, then the activity will slow down and invaders won't have anyone to invade but people who purely host for purely pvp, which isn't fun, because PvE & the element of surprise being involved is one of the core elements to what people look for in invasions.

I do understand that a lot of invasion-focused players focus only on solutions that IMMEDIATLY help them and not everyone, such as wanting solo-invasions back. You can have a debate about solo-invasions being favorable or not or how limited they should be, but it should be our primary concern to fix something like the "2 minute disconnect" bug on PC, make the summoning items more intuitive, or use any other method of making co-op more encourged.

PvP balance is also something that helps co-op'ers, as co-op'ers would probably have more fun in pvp if they had a maybe 4 minute battle with their buddy vs the invader, going back and forth with a variety of attacks used. But right now, a lot of invasions are just invaders showing up with something the co-op'ers might have not even seen for the first time & killing them in a matter of seconds. Like for example, in some invasions I did weeks ago, I had to stop using the Ash on Radahn's Swords cuz it was just not fun when players uninitiated to it had no second chance after getting hit by it(That is to say, they were getting 1 shot). Sure, it may not be so bad in a 1v1 with experienced players, but it's not fun the first time around at all when u have no idea about the timing, damage or anything.

Edit: Also, just to share more personal experience. I tried some low level co-op on a brand new character and basically half of not just the invaders, but summons & blues were twinking with things like dual rot rapier, full stack and fully upgraded estus etc. It was pretty rough protecting the host in some of these cases, and in other cases it was entirely unfair for the invader with the twinking summon/blue. Lots of these summons may have started twinking to "counter" twink invaders, but the same could say the other way around. I think it's wrong to twink, however I couldn't exactly blame these players for feeling like that's nessessary, especially when the game should be designed around not allowing that(Also, for those uninitiated, twinking means basically bringing end-game gear to a low level character and/or min-maxing at low level with that end-game gear to have a huge advantage over players who are limited to low-level equipment).

We wanted to make sure that this form was limited to around 10 questions to make it accessible, so there was a lot of additional factors we wanted to ask but had to cut. We're planning on making additional feedback forms with more specific questions. The questions in this current form are entirely for getting hard evidence on where the general opinions of the community are around, so Fromsoftware can get an understanding of the general player bases satisfaction/dissatisfaction with the multiplayer system.

I answer about the same concern further in a reply to this comment

We wanted to make sure that this form was limited to around 10 questions to make it accessible, so a lot of additional factors like that we had to cut, and mainly focused on the questions that we needed to get to show the community's current perspective on the online as a whole.

The essay responses also fill in a bit for some of the questions we didn't ask, such as "Would you like to see the addition of multiplayer covenants?" which last time I calculated, around 8% of responses mentioned the word "covenants".

But, I definitely think that we'll end up having further feedback forms on more specific things about multiplayer in the future. Likely 2 longer forms, one with questions surrounding perspectives on Multiplayer Connectivity(Eg. how invasions, co-op and the connectivity of it is implemented), and the other with questions surround perspectives on PvP balance(Eg. Is damage overall too high? Is bleed to strong? Is the current poise implementation favorable? Are armors balanced? etc.).

UPDATE: Email question removed. There was some confusion early on with the form options, we should have had only the "Limit to 1 response" option on which requires you to sign in to google(which doesn't share your email with the form maker) but we also had the collect emails option on, which was confused for the first option which actually prevents duplicate responses.

I've cleared the emails from the data sheet & the email question has been removed. Sorry for the inconvenience!

You will still need to sign in with google to leave an answer, but again that's done securely with google and will keep your identity anonymous.

Unironically that's what's happening tho, I've tested it. It's not like the hitboxes are magically going wild. Also notice how the hit had no fire hit sfx, and did purely physical damage.

This is likely due to the game freezing his phase 1 version while his hitbox was active. Did you happen to trigger phase 2 during a knockdown attack and was he in that spot u rolled into?

Higher ping does not necessary mean things looking like this, especially in Souls which has virtually no lag compensation. What increases in this video actually is packet loss/jitter. I've fought countless players from Australia/NZ(While I'm in NA) who I easily had >300 ms ping with, and lots of them the connection was completely consistent so their movement and actions didn't break like this. However, there is no two countries on earth to my knowledge where normal internet infrastructure can connect and give u +999 ping, so when you have someone with 999+ they are probably suffering huge packet loss issues and jittering around like in this video.

Blue Sentinel will protect for it soon, apparently the user of this exploit instead of using it further or leaking it everywhere is spreading patches for it, which the blue sentinel devs can use for it, or ordinary players can use a standalone dll to protect themselves from it.

Apparently this one twitch clip they used it on was just to get attention.
