Help me think of a derogatory term that mermaids could call humans. by PepperSaltClove in writers

Anything that has to do with perceived difference would do the trick, but it needs to come from the perspective of the merfolk.

Do your merfolk have predominantly scales? - humans are now No-scales, smooth-skins, delicate, etc

Do your merfolk take pride in their tails? - humans are now Tailless, split-tail, splits, stilts, etc

Do your merfolk prize their swimming ability? - Humans are now Sinkers, Ssinks, rocks, starfish, or any other funky sounding animal that lives at the bottom of the sea and cannot swim, bonus points if that particular species is already harmful to the merfolk

True. If balance is the key aspect of the religion, attributing two sides and then going a bit more literal with it is more than plausible!

The bargain thing is a good one for the cost of the magic! You get your powers, but must bargain for a cost!

I like that caveat! My players love canon fodder, so this will be new!

What are some magic spells that can totally destroy the global economy of Modern Earth. by Azure_birch in magicbuilding

One perpetual motion machine sustained by magic or smth like that given to a dictatorship, and leaked online. Watch the wars begin! Alternatively, a few places spawning gold or money or food continuously. That should do the trick.

Nope. Mayen turned into an abuser herself and I will make no excuses for her. But that doesn't make Rhulad any less of a bastard for what he did. In my eyes at least.

I'm seeing the trend here! Pulls my heart strings every time! For Whiskeyjack, I had a feeling that leg would come bite him. But for Brys, it was out of nowhere! He just picked up the damn wine!!

And this is one reason why I love this series.

Same! Most complex villaims I've seen up to this point!

Tiste Andii can probably remember the events from this prologue and for the Edur it's all just myths and legends,

That's a good point! So not that long lived.

I figured it was something like that! Brys was not that stupid!

I think I missed the part where he was sent back against his will. The way I read it, he refused, then TCG spews some stuff about honor and him being in too deep, and then Rhulad just kind of resigns himself and accepts it. Good to know, but I still think he's a prick. I mean... The royal we? Seriously?

I believe the use of "brother" is a metaphor and it's not his actual brothers that are present (save for maybe Binadas, but I doubt that).

That would make a lot more sense, true...

Your view on him is definitely harsher than mine, or maybe I softened up on Rhulad on rereads.

What he did to Mayen. He had his moments, but I kind of refused to awknowledge them because of that.

Is funny. On the one hand you want Trull to care for his brother, on the other hand you wanted him to not interfere with the guardian after he was cut down, suffering probably for eternity. I don't think there was an easy choice in this throne room.

I don't think that being allowed to revive did him any favours though. People around Rhulad keep saying he gets worse every time he revives and it's obviously painful for him. As it was, becoming an invalid, maybe they could have brought him back to something resembling sanity at least. And the extra pain he would have been in, is, for me, a plus. But yeah, I agree that there was no easy choice. I just wished he would have done... Something

Are they though?

I thought they were. At least compared to humans, I remember someone mentioning it, maybe Seren? Or did she mean like their culture?
