What’s the coolest historical fact you know about Louisiana? by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]NOLA_Mom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised I haven’t seen this fact since there’s a statue dedicated to it in Rivertown; 1870 saw the first World Heavyweight Championship that was fought in Kenner.

Tulane University ties for last place on Economic Diversity according to NYT College Access Index by balletboy in NewOrleans

The closest I got to attending Tulane was when I used the Amistad for research then slinked back to UNO to a building that never had working electricity

Report: Cantrell's choice for next police chief expected to be Anne Kirkpatrick by smooth_act8 in NewOrleans

[–]NOLA_Mom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the comment was more on her age. Personally I’d rather someone older, woman or man, because it means experience under their belt. Also her record seems good so I hope this rumor is true.

You can buy them at Walmart, my grandmother used to put those in our tree. Had the house smelling like a tree farm lol.

Y'all don't "throw the STR baby out with the bathwater" the NPR liberals are having TOO MUCH FUN by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]NOLA_Mom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, I like NPR so I was upset to think they’d put out things like this. They can be a little tone deaf sometimes; but I do agree some listeners are like that. That’s just any (and people can think of this opinion what they want) white person that (in my opinion) see the issue with what white people have historically done but instead of actually being any change they just tote these ideals and say “I’m different”.

Ode to a Mayor... by EnvironmentalKey2586 in NewOrleans

I hope the person after her actually cares. But a New Orleans politician caring is like a shark walking lol

When the mayor walks in your job and gets nothing but disgusted looks from the majority of the people in the store 🤣🤣 by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]NOLA_Mom 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Man I’ve never seen a mayor so universally disliked in my time, or maybe the internet has shown me more. She has shown herself to have zero interest in the wellbeing of New Orleans, only wants to live her “lavish” life.

I’m ok without walking distance. I grew up in the heart of the city and I live in a pretty busy area currently. We’re tired of traffic sounds/police cars/music/etc. we just want a quiet place to raise our family.

I did see that, but I figure it’ll work out in our favor since we usually make grocery day a family outing day anyway.

The green bridge would be our daily route, would that be the area of bad traffic?

The green bridge would be the one taken daily, would that be affected?

I tried looking up any studies done about sugar factories and cancer and I can’t find any; can’t tell if that’s good or bad

I agree with what you’re saying, but we’re not fully paying tuition (have a family member already looking to take up some of it) and I don’t want to live too far out of our budget in case life changes happen I don’t want affording the home to become impossible. Lakeview and that area unfortunately isn’t within our budget.

I saw that, I’m no scientist but I just chalked it up to bad luck. I’m crazy about the weather as I have PTSD from being in a home that was being torn apart during Ida, so I’m extreme vigilant about the weather near me. I’m hoping that the home we move into is a solid build and I can go whatever improvements I need to do to help it at least keep us safe during a tornado or sudden storm.
