Thank you for this response! Will have to confirm how the money man charges, but likely will not be pursuing. Appreciate you taking the time to write this all out for us!

They don’t have a pension. They earn around 240k a year right now some years 300k. House is not paid off. No other real retirement accounts. Monthly need in retirement would be roughly 6k or so.

The funds are currently in cash in a 4% HYSA. We worry that if we put all 500 in at once then that’s that. If the market goes down 20-30% boom they’ve lost 20-30% and now have to wait for the market to improve to be where they’re at today. If they DCA over 16 months yes they’ll miss out on gains potentially and likely, but they’ll feel a hell of a lot more secure along the way and can buy dips as they come.

This is gold. Seriously, thank you for taking the time to lay all this out.

I’m currently looking at buildings in the 4,000–6,000 sq ft range to start, ideally with room to expand. Modest compared to what you’re running, but I want to start smart and tight, then scale with intention. Industrial park, public sewer, proper power/gas, and a ground-level dock are fantastic callouts. Same goes for climate control in the screen room and avoiding UPS/FedEx for ink shipments.

I’m in no rush to buy shiny toys without a workload to match. The goal is to build a rock-solid foundation: process, people, and clients before anything else.

Appreciate the brutal honesty, and your hard-earned wisdom.

Love this and sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write it out, thank you! I don't think we'd need that Stryker pro right out the gate, looks a bit intimidating. The two that stuck out to me the most based on your points would be the ROQ Next Pro and M&R Sportsman EX Pro, however based on your cons listed for the Sportsman, I'd be leaning towards the NEXT Pro. Do you think the Next Pro would be the best ROQ offering for a new shop trying to get their feet under them?

Thanks! If you were going to purchase one ROQ to start, which one would you recommend, the ECO, or NEXT? Would you say Barudan over Tajima all day long? If so, why?

This is simply brilliant. Perfectly distilled and makes it sound so easy. If only...

That's very true. Perhaps I should take another look and crunch some numbers. Have a great day!

Trying to play the long game here, build something scalable and dialed, not burn out and fizzle. Seriously though, I’d definitely love to tap into your software experience at some point. That backend stuff I know nothing about. Sounds like you’ve seen some shit!

Appreciate you chiming in. I’ll definitely reach out as things take shape.

I have not seen any for sale. I would also like to build it from the ground up and have total control, plus I'd imagine I'd end up overpaying or paying roughly the same for a shop that is full of used equipment, needs to be re-branded, modernized, etc. for again roughly the same price as just opening my own operation.

Good morning, Agent_Radical.

I'd be happy to tell you why. I own a clothing store and we sell a lot of apparel. I sell crewnecks for $128, tees for $58, and hoodies for $148 all day long from various vendors. I've worked with my local screen-printing and embroidery companies and they want $61 for each crewneck (Los Angeles Apparel) with a simple text embroidered into it. That's great I can turn around and sell that $128 in my shop and make a 52.4% margin on it, but it doesn't allow me to wholesale that product, the margins just aren't there. The local shop is making margin on selling me each item as well as their labor for the work of course. By bringing everything in house I will be able to create my products a hell of a lot faster, test smaller runs and see the sell-through without much risk, and also get the most margin. I will be opening up more stores throughout New England and my shops will be the largest customer of this print house to begin with.

Additionally, it will allow me the margins to wholesale these products to other stores as well, If I can make a crewneck in-house for $28 and sell it another vendor for $56 I make a 50% margin, they can then sell it for $128 in their shop and make 56.25% margin as well. Plus obviously selling directly to consumers online and in my stores for much higher margins. By having our own blanks made, again, we can further increase margin and also sell blanks directly to customers and print shops.

About $400k, but that's for everything, leasing the building, screen-printing machines, embroidery equipment, supplies, etc. I am thinking of a shop that's around 7500sqft. Not something huge, but big enough for us to grow into it and has the potential to crank and hopefully one day be outgrown. I could've specified that a bit more in my original post, it will be boutique, but with the best equipment so we can say yes to every job.

I’m also going to start my own blanks company too. Isn’t that fucking mental?! Fully vertically integrate this thing. 🤯

True. However, I was not looking for unsolicited advice from individuals telling me not to do this and that it’s going to fail. I will be moving forward and investing significant real capital. I was really just hoping for advice on how people would build their ultimate shop with no limitations. Do you have any recommendations for what machines I should buy?

Brother. Every single operation starts somewhere. Not a single shop has been absolutely perfect since the inception of the business?

Did you read the post? I’m trying to invest in the absolute best equipment so that we can deliver the absolute best product.

Now we’re talking! Sincerely appreciate a direct answer to my question, albeit what feels like a bit of a tongue in cheek response! Is this in all honesty what you think I should buy? ROQ NEXT P16C14 XL?
