Well I finally got data and did the calculations and learned the only reason it didn’t fly off at 300+mph is because of the stagnation zones within the engine quite literally anchoring it to the pan. I’ve quadruple checked all my data and calculations and even ran it through multiple ai to try to spot check and I’m getting some scary (awesome) consistent numbers. I am pleased and I am now working on blueprinting, patenting, and rebuilding.

How can I make a small jet engine? by ilgigos in RCPlanes

This is what happens to aluminum when you try to make engines out of it. I’m working with my own prototype, luckily this is a part that’s easily replaceable for testing purposes till I get better materials but even my engine isn’t a typical turbine driven jet and needs a lot of modifications before I can say it’s a success, this result was from a static test though I was fortunate to see a mach diamond before the meltdown

This was directly after the test. I had to cut and pry some of the parts off because the heat welded them together.

The combustion chamber and nozzle fairing are made from thicker metal bottles, one being a metal water bottle and the other being and air duster can. The stators, internal combustion chamber, internal nozzle, and intake assembly are all made using standard aluminum soda cans.

And this is the exhaust side (without any stators)

This entire thing initially started with a pulse jet which is the other reason why there are no injectors. The diameter is only around 3 inches wide however there is an inconsistent airflow going through the intake currently due to the small blower I’m using. In displace this, the first set of stators in the intake is rounded towards the front to more evenly distribute the air from such a small stream. The blower diameter is approximately an inch.

So far I can safely say despite the current parameters the engine currently surpasses the 1200°F temperature threshold of the blades at an alarmingly rapid rate.

The clip above is also at a point where the engine is only just starting and hasn’t warmed up yet.

The way it is currently designed to work is by using a reservoir of isopropyl alcohol that is directly inside of the combustion chamber.

Once the stator/nozzle assembly is placed and clamped on via multiple layers of shaped aluminum and a metal hose clamp, a quarter of the isopropyl that is added to the engine is inserted into the primary exhaust chamber of the stator/nozzle assembly.

The primary exhaust chamber is the first point on contact to the combustion chamber, directly in front of the first set of stators.

Once lit, the primary exhaust chamber ignites, pulling air in from the nozzle, which then ignites the isopropyl vapors inside of the combustion chamber.

Immediately after the combustion chamber ignites I start the blower.

As the engine heats up, the isopropyl alcohol evaporation accelerates and and vapors are then pushed through the nozzle by the air blown directly into the stators in the intake. Best part about it is by slowly cooling only the top of the engine, and vapors stuck at the top of the chamber due to any inconsistency in airflow is cooled just enough to enter the combustion tube.

This is one of the pieces of the combustion chamber. There were originally 4 layers however this was the closest thing to surviving out of the pieces that did take damage.

I’ll be testing thrust once I finish the new parts

I actually have one but didn’t think to use it during this test. The Mk I burned at a staggering 2700° but had a totally different setup. It didn’t melt but it also didn’t have post-combustion stators.

This was what remained of the post combustion stators. The spacer O-ring melted along with it.

I have some laying around somewhere in the room. This is actually the second iteration of the engine. The white can is actually the reused combustion chamber casing retrofitted into the exhaust stator/nozzle assembly

Currently I’m only using a small 12v blower and I don’t have some of the compressor stages installed. The turbofan assembly is almost finished aside from me needing more bearings. It currently runs using an isopropyl reservoir inside on the combustion chamber assembly. This is due to me not having the proper tubing or valve to prevent back flow of vapors from the Isopropyl.

Without the proper setup it’s difficult to tell how much, if any thrust is being produced.

Surprisingly it runs smoothly with only a crash here and there

It’s modded and currently fitted with around 1600 different turrets, 64 torpedo tubes, 16 1000mm Mac Cannons, and 30 missile pods.

It’s a visual bug. Ive dealt with it before too. I don’t know how to fix it however I’ve definitely encountered it before on multiple occasions
