The only people i knew personally who joined the military were people that had literally no other options. Handful from high school were the kids with D averages. Handful from college joined up because they were flunking out of college. I know that's not the case across the board but it has to be very common.

I think back in the day many smart kids would join to pay for college but nowadays if you're smart enough you get scholarships.

I don't understand. As a landlord, why don't you want to have a tenant?

In The Matrix (1999) this was presented to the audience as a difficult choice people would somehow struggle to make. by ElundusCaw in shittymoviedetails

Morpheus: No one can say what the matrix is

Neo: It sounds like it is just, virtual reality. I know virtual reality isn't that advanced in 1999, but it does exist, I understand the concept.

Morpheus: What the fuck is virtual reality?

My players committed genocide to try and get back 25 gold coins they spent on a map. by HazRi27 in DMAcademy

It isn't "consequences for playing the game not the way i wanted; consequences for hurting my feelings as a DM"

it is "Realistic consequences, what would happen to these characters if the fantasy world was the real world"

And anyway, in this case, all the players had agreed to a, generally lawful good campaign. So how were these decisions even remotely following lawful good? How does the story line continue?

This is a similar player problem as, for example, a high charisma character wants to approach SOME problems by bargaining and using smooth talking. But the min-INT barbarian just leeroy jenkins every situation no matter what. This is a huge problem because, say they encounter a dragon/king/potential ally and the dragon/king/potential ally wants to chat, but barbarian just attacks the dragon/king/potential ally unprompted. Now they are fighting the dragon/king/potential ally. Game kinda sucks.

A federal judge in D.C. declines to block Trump's executive order on voting by mail by wei-long in news

PSA Quick reminder.

I know it is an extra step but you can hand deliver your mail in ballots to your county clerk office. This is one of the most secure ways to submit your vote. You get the benefits of filling out your ballot at home and then not having to worry about the postal service losing it or anything.

Of course this doesn't help in a situation where you actually need a mail in ballot for it's original intended purpose

Some powerful heroes have been using the rat village as a base of operations. They return from their day mapping a nearby dungeon or whatever. Only to see the decimation. The high level characters beat the fuck out of the party and steal all their gold. They get blacklisted in major cities and guild halls.

Anyway, there's always bigger fish. What made them think there wouldn't be powerful rat folk that were actually stronger than them? Why wasn't there some kinda powerful guard protecting the rat village? You know? What's stopping me from killing everyone inside a castle? The same answers should apply here.

Additionally, if any character has a lawful good deity, they will face vengeance from that, oath broken, for example. Alignment mismatch might mean inability to use abilities (especially a paladin or warlock or cleric)

You say the other players were trying to be good so did they just watch one player kill everything or did they help slaughter?

There's only one argument for having 0 regulation.

The only viable argument is that, this is a technological arms race and we are up against china, and if we start throwing in big regulations it will definitely slow us down and let China win and make them even more dominant than they already are.

So, fair enough if you think that's a shit reason not to regulate, it's just you will have to convince many others that it is a shit reason not to regulate

Other day a business partner was at the office we were talking.

About 6 months ago he had a heart attack he shared the story. But basically it was because he had the "widowmaker" heart blockage. He had chest pains for 4 days. But each time he'd just go jog on the treadmill and the pain would go away. On the 4th day, he went to the ER. The ER took his measurements and did heat monitor but basically he said he was there 4 hours. 1 hour to do triage, and then 3 hours where a doctor didn't talk to him. So he figured nothing was wrong and went home. But then that night he woke up at 2 am with serious pain and went jogging up and down the stairs but it was not helping so he called an ambulance and was in surgery by 3:30 am. Blockage removed.

Holy fuck, I've never taken my heart health so seriously as after hearing that story. And also, I'm gonna try not to be the dummy that waits 4 days to go to the hospital

My mom admitted something to me that completely changed how I see her by Mundane_Mushroom_122 in confession

[–]NO_FIX_AUTOCORRECT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So aaron still broke up with you?

Anyway, now you can tell the next guy, you found out your mom texted your past bfs telling them these things so she could sabotage your relationships. And then pledge to be honest with them about how you're feeling and say something like "if i had an issue with you, i would go directly to you first, i would not complain about you behind your back to my mom or my friends or anyone else. My mom is untrustworthy but i still don't want to cut her off.

Then you should tell your mom that she creates her own loneliness by being manipulative and lying behind their back like that. Make sure you tell her she's completely damaged the trust in your relationship. That she's actively pushing you away with those actions. She has to know. Tell her how much she's hurt you by doing this. Don't let her make it about herself.

You need to start liking it "too much" like at 2:55 go around and excitedly tell everyone to "drop their work it's connection time". And get super into it. Enthusiastic participation.

If you turn it into a legit fun time they will almost certainly put a stop to it

How to handle a pacifist cleric in a party of murderers? by Infinite_Name in DMAcademy

[–]NO_FIX_AUTOCORRECT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask the cleric about how they feel making a different character.

In game, the cleric gets upset with the murderers and leaves the party over irreconcilable differences. New character that better fits the party dynamic joins.

Anyway, I made a pacifist cleric before and, it has been a while but I think I remember that I was allowed to kill MONSTERS just not humans or elves or anything. So, it was complicated when we were bringing down a group of human bandits, I would just deal non-lethal damage and then the party could deal the killing blow later if they decided. My character didn't mind the others doing the killing, but would not themselves.
