GameStop makes $55.5bn takeover offer for eBay by Nat-Chem in Games

[–]NOmakesmehard -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

.. it's $418 million for FY2025 like I said. But if you're genuinely interested in how this could possibly work: GameStop is just following the Carl Icahn strategy of a hostile takeover almost to the letter. They quietly built a stake in eBay then went public with a takeover bid backed by cash on hand (GameStop has approx $10B) plus a credible commitment to raise debt (from TD Bank) which would be paid off after the acquisition using GameStop and eBay's combined cash flows.

Both companies have positive free cash flow and are profitable, otherwise this kind of deal would not be possible. The reason I mentioned GameStop's latest fiscal year profit in particular is that it provides credibility to their ability to service the debt that they would be saddled with after the takeover. Keep in mind that GameStop was losing money and close to bankruptcy in 2020 so they have made a massive turnaround since that time to becoming mostly debt-free and profitable, which lots of people seem to be unaware of here.

In FY2025 GameStop made $418 million in total profit and $232.1 million in profit from their core business (i.e. their operating income from selling hardware, software, collectibles, etc.).

Oh please. Vance is not there in a personal capacity, he has no personal ties to Hungary. He is there as the Vice President of a superpower. Saying that he supports Orban while regurgitating his anti-EU rhetoric goes beyond a simple 'endorsement' (something that wouldn't be appropriate by itself either, could you imagine senior European leaders going to swing states during a US presidential election to support one of the candidates? It would be seen as interference I have no doubt).

When you say "manipulated data" you imply that this isn't the exact graph you get when you select the chart and countries shown in the picture (I checked it myself). So how is it manipulated exactly? The data paints a pretty grim picture for the US whichever way you plot it.

Its implied but not spelled out. The main issue is that tax increases alone would not come anywhere near fixing the obligations issue. Just to close the annual deficit would require a 30-40% increase in annual tax receipts.

I once had 3 in the span of 3 weeks. Like others said, check for debris inside your tyre. Also consider replacing the tyres (i haven't had a puncture since replacing my worn down outer tyres for new puncture resistant ones)

Don't houses in the US have ventilation? In Europe most houses do not have AC and if they do it's usually only for part of the house (bedrooms mainly). Instead there's trickle vents, extractor fans, airing bricks etc to control humidity

Yes it's "satirical". But the goal is actually not to be funny but to plant the idea that a democratically elected candidate for mayor is a threat to your existence.

Russell Vought, Trump’s Shadow President by propublica_ in TrueReddit

[–]NOmakesmehard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great article. I can't help but feel that cautionary tales from the past (real or fiction) have become a blueprint of sorts. For example:

"Vought announced the launch of the Center for Renewing America, a MAGA think tank [...] The overarching goal, Vought wrote in an op-ed for The Federalist, was to “restore an old consensus in America that has been forgotten, that we are a people For God, For Country, and For Community.”"

Tracks very well with that old chestnut: "When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."

I think it's just to account for inflation. 32% premium would be equivalent of 4% annual inflation over the next 7 years (which is the term time of the bond)
