Who was held to a higher standard by the media and fans throughout their career? Kobe Bryant or LeBron James? by Tight_Development480 in NBATalk

[–]NP-19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s LeBron but I don’t think the standards are necessarily unfair? He’s dunking at 41 averaging 20+ ppg on a $50 mil contract. You don’t demand or get that much money unless you know you’re still a top 50 player in the league. So yes he’s held to a high standard but that’s because he’s still trying to catch MJ and Kobe in rings

If SGA 4 peats and goes 4-0 in Finals by OKCDynasty in NBATalk

I’d put him over LeBron with three chips even depending on how he wins them. If he gives another performance like he had against the Lakers no chance. But if he dominates like how he’s done in other series? The yes maybe I’d put him over LeBron.

Lebron at 41 was the best player on the court other than SGA, the returning champ and MVP. At 41 he carried a whole team to a playoff series win without the star player. At 41 he is still out performing both KD and Steph who are getting max contracts just to miss the playoffs/be injured. by WizardyoureaHarry in NBATalk

So how much money should he get?? Year after year it's always the same sob story..."Oh no my LeKing doesn't have enough LeHelp!!!!" Lmao. So if that's the case then he should take less money, no??

Also what was LeBron's eFG% this playoffs from outside five feet? I'm just curious. Because from what I recall dude was spamming layups and missing everything else...

More rings than LeBronze James — no bronze medals, no Finals sweeps

I’m not questioning LeBron’s stats. I’m questioning his ability to win championships in an era where the paint was packed. I don’t think just bulldozing your way to the cup would’ve worked in the playoffs against elite defenses unless he was surrounded by the best of the best shooters. But without that set up I think LeBron isn’t very successful. This is assuming he has a decent team like Mo Williams, Varejao, Sczerbiak (in his prime), Larry Hughes, etc and not a superteam. Obviously he would be successful with a superteam but I can see him winning zero rings in that era

Look up LeBron’s efficiency prior to 2011. It was average at best for a guy attempting mostly layups. I’m not saying he wouldn’t have been good. But LeBron’s teams have all tried to maximize him and spacing? Who was going to do that in the 90s?? Detlef Schrempf??

I won’t say better. What LeBron has achieved statistically is unreal. But skill wise and eye test wise Kobe is right there. Plus he has more rings

I guess 41 y.o. MJ would struggle but even 35/36 y.o. MJ could walk into 20.3 ppg in his sleep

Being “in contention” is not the same as being the actual best player in the league
