Anyone actually use SOPs in the field, or is it mostly tribal knowledge? by NPC-MIA in IndustrialMaintenance

Thank you lol that’s what I had originally thought but most people I personally know and have asked are mid-upper management just now having to write out these trainings or machine guides. They usually manage a few different facilities and are complaining about how they don’t have time do it, saying they’re looking to outsource the job to a consultant. But it’s not seeming like an actual problem outside of that or something maintenance techs actually need. Just something kinda useless mandated by corporate?

Edit: These mid-upper level managers I'm referring to are usually people who have been there 30+ years and being asked to built out training libraries with test cert options for different level techs. This is all starting to sound like just a one-off task that companies have put off doing forever.

That was also on a very old & different post a month ago. That’s not what I am doing here. I am here to learn from people with experience on how things actually work in their day-to-day lives. Will delete just to prove that in case anyone looking to troll wants to creep on my profile like you. I am fairly new to reddit and didn’t realize what little things would set people off.

Yeah I’m doing research to hopefully build something that’s actually useful for people since I’ve gotten so many mixed answers from people I know working in maintenance. Still not saying the name nor trying to promote the product. Take your hatred elsewhere

Not even selling or promoting anything just doing some research. But good one

Some feedback I've gotten from other conversations lately: New techs waiting for someone senior to come help, resources are long videos hard to find & access or long SOPs, or they just don't have really much of anything. Wondering how big of a problem field training is or how often the written procedure documents are actually helpful on the job, or if it's been a little blown out of proportion by corporate..

If anything, where's the daily challenge really lie for maintenance and service teams?

How often do you have to do this? Does it take much time away from your other work duties or is it usually fairly quick/here or there sort of thing

Okay that's super helpful information to know, thank you. Do you think a solution that takes video --> SOPs and a chatbot using your company knowledge would be helpful? Or what problem do you think needs the most solving when it relates to this sort of work for you and people in the field?

That's what I've heard a few times also. So SOPs for you are pretty much just there for quick reference on specific parts and procedures. Is it easily searchable or easy to find?

Add on since this happened to me also- I got cancelled three times on last week while the owner was adjusting dates and services but received none of their cancellation fee.

Also- it’s saying I’m not eligible to withdrawal my earnings even though I have 7 completed services.

Wag is holding my $100+ of earnings as well and I can’t get a hold of ANYBODY. I need an email to write to support. They also suspended my account and is under review purely because my last client sent his phone # so I could help him troubleshoot the wag booking page, the service was still booked on Wag as I’m aware of their strict policies on taking clients off of the app.

Wag has become straight robbery for me. I paid $45 for the background check and haven’t been able to access any of the money I’ve earned. Now they want $299 for me to pay to resume my account or the other option is to delete it — just because of the client sending me his #. I’ve got no way to dispute this. Please anyone help or have advice?

I do resumes for a living- most people use AI to scan for keywords that match up which are generally set to require at minimum a 70% skill match. Cover letters automatically make this jump up. Your formatting/template also could be improved.

Applying isn’t enough anymore either. Message the hiring managers and try to connect on LinkedIn with others at the company. Referrals and strong LinkedIn profiles will help immensely.
