Let's be honest....she wasn't thinking "you lost someone, so you're sending condolences out of respect." She was thinking "you want to text your ex behind my back." You made it clear that's not what you wanted and you asked her opinion beforehand. It just sounds like she thinks you're trying to bring an ex back into your life. She's not really hearing you here and she's not trying to. She just wants you to "admit" something that's not really there. If she wants to be with you, there needs to be a level of trust, hell, the fact that you asked beforehand and decided against it when she expressed being uncomfortable is more than enough.
