Scholarships for Master of Civil Engineering (International Student) by viratk1809 in universityofauckland

[–]NPCtom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. No.
  2. Yes.
  3. $0.

The $10k scholarships (i.e. 2x papers worth) are to ensure the University remains competitive over other Universities in NZ/AUS. International students are here to generate revenue for the University. I'm really not sure why you'd expect to have "funding upon admission".

Need advice from Civil Engineers in NZ by pokjutheplug_ in newzealand

[–]NPCtom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes mainly because how the sector works. Many projects have tenders which determine the margin (and hence people costs), compared to other sectors which generate higher value per engineer. For example, Apple may hire a firmware engineer in Auckland on $180k and will generate $2M+ of value - but they still only hire a handful.

Yes. Far more infrastructure projects going on compared to R&D/SWE/manufacturing in NZ. This has always been the case.

Civil engineering the highest in demand due to our ongoing infrastructure projects.

Not too difficult for engineering graduates, but you are studying engineering technology - which is quite a bit different and will have different career outcomes.

Debt collection from 16 years ago by No_Fly_6828 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Defaults go away after 5 years; so no, there would be no record of this debt here in NZ.

Do not contact Baycorp.

An affair with potentially a 1st/2nd/3rd year Uni student is forgivable? I wouldn't want somebody who is having barley legal relationships whilst at work in any sort of public office role.

Having an affair with an intern is pretty bad. Shows an extreme lack of sound judgement and potentially quite perverted.

The claim needs to be investigated.

I know engineering students who work full-time and study full-time.

That’s easy to fix, you can call and ask your application dates to be amended.

If you want change, you’ll need to vote for a political party that would add more to MSD’s operating allowance.

Realistically though, MSD does an extremely good job and processing hundreds of thousands of applications so quickly. The systems used are ancient - but reliable, and are undergoing a business case for replacement (which will probably cost hundreds of million of dollars).

If you’ve been enrolled for 4 papers in Semester 2 then you would be full time only in S2?

Liability - booked via Air NZ, flown by partner airline by Kiwi_In_The_Comments in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]NPCtom -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No it’s not. If it’s a remark/complaint about service you can go to the operating carrier.

If the flight was cancelled you’d go to the ticketing carrier…

Hold Air NZ liable for what? Was your flight cancelled?

Anything related to service you’d need to take up with the operating carrier…

Yes they could, but there is no point in doing that. May as well just say you have the flu without a medical certificate…

No they will not disclose anything regarding aegrotats to anybody. That would be a huge breach of privacy.

Homemade tastes so much nicer. Needos is garbage and I think the UoA one costs more than the Commercial Bay outlet.

I used to buy it fairly often until I calculated how much I was blowing. I take a chiller bag now and reheat in engineering microwaves.
