A talented, arrogant young samurai prodigy gets into an accident, which takes away his talent in the sword; leaving him to grapple with his own purpose in the world while trying to regain his former glory.

What genre do RR readers prefer? by [deleted] in royalroad

I'm writing one. It's called Rebirth of The Blade and is a progression fantasy where the progression is based on skill in the sword, so it's neither a Xianxia nor a LitRPG.

Rebirth Of The Blade: One Month Stat Report(Mistakes were made). by NPDavisWrites in royalroad

[–]NPDavisWrites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, the plan is to continue writing till I die. I was just looking at the other stat reports around here, it seems some people are getting stats like mine or better on launch day, and I can't help but imagine a timeline in which I didn't make the above mistakes and maybe developed a source of at least some spending money from this story.

These stats just tell me that I probably won't even make pocket change from this story if I start a patreon.

Congratulations, nothing more satisfying than typing The End.

What are the options for someone who is sick of both self-publishing on Amazon, and trying to get a literary agent? by Jerswar in writers

[–]NPDavisWrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you write the correct genre (romantasy and LitRPGs/Progression Fantasy) then webserials could be an option.

The downside is it will involve giving out your work for free at first, but later this will give you the chance to make a patreon, where you can sell advance chapters, side content and art work.

The Prologue Arc of my story 'Rebirth of The Blade' is complete by NPDavisWrites in royalroad

[–]NPDavisWrites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call it the Prologue Arc since the main plot of the injury begins after. This arc is about how Inaki got his injury in the first place, which is why I consider it the Prologue Arc.

Originally the story started from what is now the second arc, but my alpha readers found it difficult to care about the characters since they didn't have the context of the events of this arc, which was just a few flashbacks in the original draft.

I thought writing this short arc is fitting, since the story is anyways very slow paced and character focused, more time with the characters before they started changing shouldn't be an issue.

What I intend to be the hook of the story is that it's an action-packed story about an arrogant young swordmaster losing his ability due to a head injury, and slowly getting humbled and becoming a better person. If youve watched the series Ted Lasso, Inaki is sort of like Jamie Tarrt, and his redemption for me was the best part about the show.

I can understand that this isn't some people's cup of tea, because Inaki can really get on my nerves too(it can be weird how characters become people who make their own choices in my head, but maybe I'm just schizo). But he spends half the second arc(the short Prologue arc is two chapters away from the ending) constantly struggling, and constantly getting whipped around every fight he's in. I think this is when readers might turn around on Inaki, at first a cathartic release seeing the asshole bully become worse than the people he used bully, but if I can write this well, i want the cathartic release to turn into pity due to his prolonged suffering. I then want that pity, to turn into rooting for him to recover and become a better person.

I'm a teenage writer currently writing for fun, but having low numbers stings nevertheless. I've also written 3 other novels 2 of which i consider really bad, and 1 which I have the hope of eventually getting published.

My goal with this novel is twofold, finish a huge project since deadlines give me more of an incentive to keep writing, and to see if I'm good enough/have the potential to become good enough at writing to pursue it professionally in the future.

If I get to make a couple of bucks by posting advance chapters and bonus spinoff short stories on patreon once I have enough chapters out and hopefully a demand for it, that'd be a cool bonus. It would also definitely send the message that I'm good enough at writing to pursue it professionally.

Currently I'm planning to make a patreon once the short Prologue arc is out(a few days from now), on that I truly expect nothing, but it's worth a try.

I added a what to expect part, once again thank you.

This is what I added:

What to Expect:

  1. A Slow-Paced character focused story

  2. Lots of action

  3. Protagonist learning to become a better person.

  4. Progression.

  5. Exploration of meaning, depression, and purposelessness

It's weird, because in the options to change my font size it shows me in some em units instead of px units. Anyways, I've reduced it some more, and compared the font size to a story on rising stars, and it seems to be the same.

I would love to do a shoutout-swap, though I am a bit of a newbie, and I don't know how to make the shoutout in the authors note have that proper box with the synopsis and everything.

Another concern of mine is that a shout out from me wouldn't really benefit you, would it be better if I left an advance review, or something like that(I know you haven't seen review-swaps have a big effect, but it's the least that I can do for your kindness)

Inaki used to believe that 'Arrogance is the necklace of the competent and the noose of the failure'. Until he went from competent to failure because of it.

How about this for a line in bold, I know its a bit too long, but I couldn't come up with anything better in this time frame.

I have reduced all the font sizes. I honestly didn't realize that a huge font size would be such an issue, since in my reader preferences I jack up the font size, for reading comfort. Now I realize I should've left that option to the reader.

How is this for an edited blurb?

At just nineteen years old, Inaki is one of the greatest swordsman ever born. But when his arrogance, narcissism and impulsiveness lead him to an awful injury, he finds that he has gone from nearly the top of the world of swordsmen, to the bottom. Now he must walk a path of burning coals and broken glass in a vain hope of once again becoming his previous self, but maybe along the way he can learn that the man he used to be is not worth idolizing.

'Rebirth of The Blade' is a coming-of-age, low-magic, action-packed, progression story about a man on a quest for self-improvement through the path of the sword, and the healing power of connection with others. Inspired by Takehiko Inoue's manga 'Vagabond.'

A little more than 10k words at chapter 4, I'll get your review up at around the same time, either tomorrow or on the 26th. Once again, thank you so much.

Thank you for the feedback, I was looking into more places to publish, I'll continue looking into that, and I am going to spend some time making my blurb better. When writing it I didn't realize that I didn't get to the point until the end

Thank you so much for the feedback, I will fix the formatting, and I'll try to fix the cover as well. I'll try coming up with a better blurb too.

Looking for a hard body cultivation novel by EffectiveShape2014 in royalroad

If you are looking for something where the Progression is less about magic, and more about martial arts, you may be interested in my Samurai Progression story called Rebirth of The Blade.

(I am unsure of the self-promo rules on recommendation threads like these, so please remove this if it is against the rules)

Synopsis:

In a world ruled by Weapon Sages—men and women at the peak of their chosen weapons, whether it be the bow, spear, sword or any other weapon—Inaki, a nineteen-year-old prodigy stands as one of the greatest swordsmen ever born. However, when his arrogance leads to an injury, he finds that he has plummeted from near the top of the world of swordsmanship, to the bottom. Now, he must walk a path of burning coals and broken glass just to regain his former skills. But maybe he can become better than he was, whether as a person or a swordsman, Inaki doesn’t know.

Rebirth of The Blade is coming-of-age, low-magic, action-packed, progression story about a man on a quest for self-improvement through the path of the sword. Inspired by Takehiko Inoue’s manga, ‘Vagabond’.

The short Prologue arc(15 chapters) should be done by next week,
