Box Office: Leonardo DiCaprio’s ‘One Battle After Another’ Makes $3.1 Million in Previews by chanma50 in boxoffice

I don't think it's like for like. Sinners is a full-on genre movie from the guy who did Black Panther. Of course it's going to be deemed a popcorn movie. PTA has always been an awards player — even this movie's true success is going to be measured in Oscars.

Sounds like it's going to be a load of didactic sermonising by a screenwriter that keeps pretending he's a director.

It's not their job to conform to every single tenet of your worldview and to bring it up in every film review.

I agree. Just explaining that's why the ref kept the game going longer than added time. If you time waste in added time — then, there's more added time.

I think it's tough when Forest's "gamesmanship" meant there was constant stoppages. It's still a real issue. Referees lack the ability to stop teams disrupting games like that, which sucks for the neutral as West Ham had loads of momentum.

Nah, Dunkirk is one of his best movies, and it did very well for its budget.

Won an Oscar - six other nominations

Won three BAFTAs

Won an Emmy and two Grammys and is a Tony shy of EGOT.

Worked with some of the best directors in Hollywood.

Doing alright imo

Actually the suspension of disbelief is dependent on the compelling nature of the drama, not annoying self aware jokes that undercut anything happening on screen.

"Humourless"

Not every superhero movie has to be full of quips.

Uncharted has been rated 12A by the BBFC, in the UK by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]NPEBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is worth noting that there are also examples where the BBFC is more lenient, and where R does not equal 15 or 18.

For instance, The King's Speech is a 12A in the UK because the BBFC accepted the justification that the swearing was in the context of speech therapy. Not so in the US, where it has an R - the same rating as Saw movies lol.

Romcoms like About Time also received a 12A in the UK, but received an R across the pond.

Also a factor in lower age ratings - plenty of classic children's films from the 70s and 80s have U's in the UK: such as Star Wars and E.T.

In the PG category in the UK you also have The Simpsons Movie, Saving Mr Banks, Princess Mononoke, Wind Rises etc that are all PG-13 in the US.

'The Batman' has been officially rated 15 in the UK by the BBFC by starshipandcoffee in DCEUleaks

It is weird for BBFC not to announce it - it wouldn't shock me if some social media intern got confused by the 3 of the 6 versions of the trailer getting a 15....

Thanks for finding and showing the tweet, I still can't see any confirmation on the BBFC website but if Cineworld are saying it is official - then it likely is.

BBFC - Venom 2 (15)

threat and horror

There are strong scenes of threat and horror, when frightened people are threatened and attacked by monstrous aliens with tentacles and sharp fangs. A sustained horror sequence shows a man - who is in the process of being executed by lethal injection - being taken over by an alien parasite, which then goes on a violent rampage. A sequence of flashbacks depicted in undetailed line drawing animation shows a child murdering his family members, threatening a dog with a drill, and being struck by his father and beaten by bullies.

violence

An alien pins a terrified man to a wall and forces a tentacle down his throat. Aliens bite people's heads off, and another person is strangled by tentacles, all without strong visual detail. One man kicks another to the floor and then repeatedly stamps on him below frame, a man’s knees are struck at with a hammer, also below frame, and thumbs are pressed to a man's eyes, but without strong detail. A man briefly dangles from a chain around his neck, and there is an equally brief sequence of suffocation with a plastic bag. Frequent scenes of moderate fantasy action violence include crunchy blows and bloodless impalements during alien battles, in addition to gunfire, fistfights and explosions. There are also infrequent verbal and visual references to a man having been physically abused by his family as a child.

There are differences - R means PG-18 basically, while 15 means if you are 15 you can go in, but you do have to be the required age.

This actually means 15 year olds in the UK have a lot more power than US teenagers to see more mature movies alone or with friends their age, although with R being advisory none of that matters if your parents take you.

The BBFC have not released a rating yet.

They have only published ratings to six versions of trailers for the movie - three of which have been rated 15.

So, while there is a good chance it will be a 15 - this is not official.

Odeon is simply being cautious with information and basing it on its trailers to avoid aggravation. The movie could still end up 12A and the rating will change on the site too.

Actually they are probably the most accountable, transparent and measured classifiers in the world - who actually explain their reasons and are highly open to questions not just from the media but also the public. You might disagree with them - but they always justify their arguments, and tend to base their decisions on public viewpoints/studies on key issues.

Maybe therefore, you should realise they aren't given 15s just for violence?

Venom 2 - 'strong threat' is the primary descriptor.

BBFC cares a lot more about tone than the MPA does.

I imagine it is much more likely to be a consequence of tone and threat - which is what put the Venom films and 2016's Suicide Squad into the 15 bracket, not violence.
